Well, ok... the question is between being stupid and being ugly. It's not about being smart and being good-looking.

What means being stupid ? If we don't want to be stupid we can always study and read books to be less stupid. On the other side, when you're ugly, you just have surgery to change it : It's expensive, and afterwards you look fake and superficial.

No seriously, it's funnier to born gorgeous and to study to get less stupid after than the opposite.

We should discuss what costs more or is more difficult, to make Claudia Schiffer a smart and eloquent debater or the other girl a beauty? :)

I'd rather be ugly.

We can always improve our intelligence afterwards, however, when we're ugly, it's really hard to become pretty.
I would say it's the other way around, and I choose 'ugly'.

I'd choose to be stupid, simply for a change of pace. ;)

And Marla, are either of those pictures of you? Because no matter which one-

I'd rather be stupid, because I value happiness more than anything else, and stupid, pretty people are much more happy than smart, ugly people.

@Marla: I'm assuming "stupid" means having a low level of intelligence, not a low level of knowledge. And you can't easily improve your intelligence.

Thanks to support me. The conformism of posters in here pushed me to answer differently. :D

Well, for the first picture I've googled "Claudia Schiffer", for the second picture, I've googled "computer nerd" or "ugly scientist" I don't remember. :p

Good point. It's a bit the Chinese story about the toad living happily at the bottom of a well. When very old it finally gets out of the well and discovers the wideness of the world, the toad dies of despair.

Intelligence is something that can be improved. Students will always perform better in IQ test than people who have never been to school. We can train that brain above our head. ;)

You can learn more through education, but you can do little to improve your intelligence. If your IQ is 85 (not very smart) you will never get it much higher. The thread never says what IQ you would have if you choose the ugly option. I assume 130 or more. He could have meant ugly and 100; not so fun. Ugly folks who can think, can at least play civ and post here and no one would know how ugly they are. Not that people who post ever pretend to be something they are not.;)

:hmm: This seems to be a more difficult question that I had previously thought *looks at Bush*

Incidentally, all the arguements against stupid people can be refuted in one sentence: A stupid person wouldn't care.

If youre smart ,you can use that to earn lots of money to pay for the plastic surgery that make's youre ugly face beautifull.

If youre really cute ,you can use that to earn lot's of money ,enough to never have to care about being not smart.

tricky one id say ,but ill prefer smart and ugly.

Okay, you're right that IQ can be improved (and degraded). After all, the brain can be exercised just like any other part of our body.

But still, just like muscular strength, we all have differences in the ease of progression, not to mention hard-fast limits. Forrest Gump is never going to become Einstein, just as Urkel is never going to become Schwarzenegger. Although IQ is *partly* a result of effort, I'd still say it's mostly something you're just stuck with. I'd even venture to guess that this is true with IQ moreso than muscular strength, but I don't really have anything to go on with that.

Prefer to be ugly. And intelligence is something that can't be acquired easily. Once you have gone to school you have already done your training and there won't be much more.
Being mentally ******** is like being dead for me.

You're right. If "stupid" means not even having basic reasoning capabilities, I'd much rather be smart and ugly. I was imagining stupid to be just your average stupid person (IQ of 85, I guess?).

That's kind of a bad question because you know you can accomplish much more by being smart than by being good looking.
The two don't really compare.

Yeah, I'd rather be ugly.

I'd rather be mute and stupid... That way I can't say anything dumb and I'd be beautiful!

That has to be the best reasoning I've ever read! :goodjob:

Don't understand. Being stupid, would that make me really good looking? Or being ugly, would that make me really really intelligent? Or do I just deteriorate in one field, and keep the other one same as now? That means your current looks and intelligence makes a big difference for different persons...

Still, I agree with WillJ, I'd rather be beautiful and stupid. Imagine being happy (because you can get nice women) and not worrying about stuff all the time (because your stupid). Going from my intelligence now down to stupid, would probably annoy me to death though, but probably wouldn't have mind as much if I was born stupid...
