Would you support investigations into the 2000 vote counting in Florida

No its too late to do that now.

Even if he was found guilty of it, we have a presidential election coming up anyway.

Isn't there like a statute of limitations or something? I'm sure it's way past and I think they already did investigations into it.

My memory of the 2000 election isn't good, but didn't the Supreme Court basically rule that you couldn't just keep recounting votes until the counters reached the desired result.

They counted the votes and Bush won. Let's say they count them again and somehow Gore wins. What do you do now? And win Gore doesn't when again do we keep on recounting them until he does?

How many times must the ballots be recounted, before he becomes a man?

The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind.

Re-counting ballots is only part of it.

That does not address the unknown issue of the permanent destruction of ballots before counting or those disenfranchised for having the same names as criminals.

The purpose would be to spike a nomination of Jeb Bush for president.

I'll support an investigation in the 2000 election if they'll support one for the 1960 election.

Are you serious? This is just getting sad. Let it go. The democrats lost through the judicial system and we have moved on. If you want to privately fund it, sure. But don't waste government money on something like this. Anyways, I doubt you'd still have the available evidence.

Jail the responsible? I suppose if it was rape or murder people would just wave it off like nothing happened.

Investigate and throw Katherine Harris in jail. Obviously, no results are going to be overturned at this point. It's evidence of wrongdoing, not the actual results that matter now. There was criminal activity, and it shouldn't be glossed over. Those responsible should be punished.

Ah geez, not this **** again...

I'll try to argue the big picture that stunts like the Florida recounts give non-democractic leaders ammo to say democracy doesn't work, that it has it's own form of corruption just like any other government.

Just using my free speech rights to point out the possible dangerous actions that state participates in, but humanity can afford only so many accountable leaders.

But this incident is no where near as bad as what happens in other countries that don't even have civil rights like ours. If we're going to compare, which we always do.

What would it cost? What could you gain?
Truth.
Okay, suppose the country spends tens of millions of dollars on the investigation, trial, and appeals periods. And suppose the 2000 recount were to be found to be fallacious. What do you suggest we do about it?
Only for the history textbooks. It would provide some valuable light on the some important events in the last few years and would better inform us of how much was malfeasance and how much was admirably misguided idealogy.

I say its worth it for my afformentioned reasons.

(and @ amadeus, sure, we can investigate the 1960 election too. Why not? Truth is always good. No need for partisan trades or rhetoric)

Well, maybe thats because democracy does have its own form of corruptionjust like any other government, and very, very often doesn't work.

In that case I want the U.S. government to have hearings on the whereabouts of the remains of Heinrich Mueller. Of course I would trust Historians to come to a better conclusion then the U.S. government.
