WW1 Aircraft Pack 4 - Imperial Russian Air Force

The 4th installment of my WW1 Aircraft Packs focuses on the Imperial Russian Air Force.

This pack includes two famous aircraft - the Anatra DS and Sikorski Ilya Muromets. The Anatra was workhorse general-purpose aircraft, filling multiple roles, from reconnaissance to fighter support and light bombing. The Ilya Muromets was an amazing aircraft for its age - the worlds first 'heavy' bomber. Able to carry large bomb loads over longer distances than any contemporary bomber, it revolutionized the use of aircraft for generations to come.

The third aircraft was built by combining 2 Anatra's to form a new medium bomber. Though experimental and not very successful, it was a precursor to the idea of taking two airframes and making one.

The Anatra DS uses the fighter animations, the other two use the bomber animations.

Yes, Snafusmith....the Sikorski bomber was ahead of it's time. It featured the first enclosed fusalage, heated interior, and a number of other items (not to forget its size) that would only become standard years later. Sikorski had a number of designs that were well ahead of their time, but he is perhaps overlooked by military history. His work was never really used to its full potential by the Russian military to give them an early technological advantage. In some ways, he was a "Werner von Braun" of early aviation.
