WW1 Real Time or PBEM

Could turns now be sent to Dell19 AT gmail.com as well since hotmail still hasn't increased their size allocation and a couple of saves can now fill my account.

1914 Week 43 (14th week of the war...Mid October)

The German Military once again just counter attacked where convenient. Military engagements included:

-Ypres: Bombardment by Railgun
-Southeast of Metz: Ruprecht's 5th Corps (Ger) def. 1 Inf R Div (Fr)
-South of Metz: Wyorsh's 1st Corps & Falkenhayn's 4th Corps (Ger) def. 2 Entente Machine Guns (Fr)
-Near Brussels: Rurpecht's 5th Corps & 1 Kav Div def. 2 Inf R Div (Fr)
-West of Kuanas: 1 Kavellerie Div (Ger) def. 1 Cossack Div (Rus)...the first Russian Blood drawn by victorious German Troops.

The Kaiser sends his regrets to the Tsar over the disputed railroad connecting Memel to Konigsberg. German citizens prefer travel by rail to that of sea because it is much cheaper, more convenient, and safer. For this reason, the railroad must be rebuilt immediately.

Also, to President Orlando (music theory7), perhaps, if we play again you could play as Germany or Austria since you had the following comment attached to the save file:

"I'm disappointed in Germany's preformance so far btw. Don't even let me start on Austria. ugh." -music theory7

I'll admit that I overextended myself early and paid for it. Seriously though, I am exactly where the Germans were in the real war at this time. They never completely controlled Ypres and never came close to Calais. I lost many troops during my pathetic attack near Nancy and retreat from Arras, but have rebounded fairly well. I am no ways back to equal yet (no navy really), but, the last 3 turns I have held my own (with the exception of the loss of the High Seas Fleet)...

And Austria has an even tougher position. Almost their entire border is surrounded by enemies with the exception of the northwest portion. They don't have just a western and eastern front, but they also have a southern front. And in the real war they had lost considerable territory to the Russians at this point...up to the Carpathian Mountains in the east.

Nothing personal...I know it was just a stab at my play in the game...I might have taken this a little too personal. Remember this scenario is meant to be realistic. That means that the Central Powers are supposed to struggle slightly (just slightly) more than the Entente...which the scenario is balanced to do, and has done so for the most part. There are few things that need tweaking which I have notified Rocotech of.

Kaiser BK

Part of the problem for me was that I assumed that units to the south of Austria would be limited so that Austria could take the region early on but Russia was able to move reinforcements into the area very quickly and from then on attacks would be likely to fail.

Calm down. I just was pointing out that at the Battle of Juntland the Germans sunk more English ships and on average they were better at engagments against the Entente. The loss of your fleet is really bad since one of Germany's aim of this war was to expand your overseas empire. Also Germany inflicted two huge defeats on Russia and took northern poland.

On Autria yes they are on the historical track but by next year they are suppose to kill Serbia and Montenegro as well as Romania. I don't think that will happen from the recent events.

I do think that this secarino is unbalanced in favor of the entente because remember the Central powers were winning until 1915 to 1916. If we play this again sign me up as Austria! Poor bastards they broke into like 9 pieces after ww1 LOL.

Just one thing...Russia was on the offensive for almost all of 1914 and greatly threatened Eastern Germany at this time in the real war. The first German victory in the east came at Tannenburg (Aug 26, 1914) which is in German territory. So true, I didn't inflict a major loss upon the Russians in the same time frame. However, the Russians also did not invade Eastern Prussias as they did in the real war. The first really successful push by German troops into Russia came at the 2nd Battle Masurian Lakes (Feb 7, 1914 - Towards Warsaw). So, their was only one major and decisive German victory as of October and it was on German soil...Which Russian troops have only set foot on in this scenario once between Memel and Kuanas.

Russia IS on the offensive!

Varna captured, all defenders slaughtered.
German stack attacked, all but three conscripts killed; they were saved when one promoted and I had already run out of artillery from:
Turkish gun position captured, 13 Turkish artillery pieces nabbed!

Russian losses: 3 Cossacks

I know what Russia is supposed to do: attack with everything, become over extended, and die. I tried something like that on my first few turns with a massive raid into Austria. Then I realized "hey, if I build a ton of artillery and move slowly, I have so many more men, cities, and areas I can attack that there is nothing anyone can do if I keep my rails open!"

Seems to be working better than what the real Russians did. I would like to see the assault that can get close to one of my cities. 70 guns is a tough bombardment to break through (seventy with all the lovely ones the central powers "donated" to me ;p), and I am the only one with enough cav to attack from a distance... ;p

Germany has played well, and so has Austria! Even the hated Turk has been as brilliant as possible ;p (I hated that mountain bombardment spot more than you would believe ;p). What it comes down to is the simple fact that we have more production. Tons more. Victory is assured so long as we do not screw up. They, on the other hand, had to get really, really lucky. Is it their fault we are winning? NO!

Thanks for a well played game guys!

Which Russian troops have only set foot on in this scenario once between Memel and Kuanas.

Almost twice now, and both times over the dead bodies of a significant number of Germans ;p

Varna is gone? mmm.. that will get Bulgaria out of the war. Only the three main ppls left while us Entente have Albania/Serbia/Romania/Italy/UK/France and Russia. They took out poor little Montenegro but oh wellz. 7 vs 3 is good odds.

I have lost track of things while I have been moving house ... the last time I saw the turn was when I sent it to Detlef a week ago ... anyone know where the turn is now ? Has it been sent to me and i've lost it amid a week's worth of emails ?

Russia doesn't send the save to me so I assumed it was with LouLong... I haven't received anything.

I assume that, seeing as BK reckons it should be with Dell, BK has played and sent, meaning it is either with Aeon or Lou ?

EDIT ... Aeon has posted a battle report above, suggesting the turn is with Lou. It would be very unlike Lou to sit on a turn for a few days.

That is what I was thinking, however, I sent Lou the save for the T.O.S. pbem last night and I note that he hasn't played and sent yet, which in itself, is unusual for Lou who, I have noticed, usually plays and sends around 10 - 11 am GMT.

I sent it already but apparently Dell 19 did not get it so I just resent it.
Sorry for the delay noticing it but I went away for one day then "overstayed". Hope you will forgive me for that :-) ?

Considerable naval engagements this turn.

Initial combat saw the destruction of 3 destroyers, 1 submarine, 1 floating mine and 1 submarine (British) for the loss of 2 destroyers.

Then the main combat against the Italian main stack resulted in the complete destruction of all ships in that stack for the loss of several light cruisers (2 or 3) and at least one stronger ship.

Also a railroad near Venice was bombarded.

How many ships did the... (fingers crossed! ;p) entente... lose?

Looks like the Adriatic battle scene is getting heated up, although I dont know if I am a fan of that ;p

I think there were 7 or 8 ships in the stack but there is a French stack as well...
