Ww2 Fps

Ok, I think it's generally agreed by all that WW2 FPS's have been pretty much run into the ground. About how the genre's been going on for longer than the war itself, only so many ways you can invade Normandy etc etc but since on the company who made CoD4's website they're looking for people with 'WW2 Multiplayer map design experience', the rumour arose that CoD5 may go back to WW2.

Now this got me thinking, in an attempt to at least slightly freshen it up abit, would people be against the idea of playing as the Germans?

Now notice I said Germans there and not Nazi's, I'm not advocating playing as the SS or something sick like that, I'm just thinking, it's not really been done before that I can recall in both CoD and MoH series and more and more you can play as Russian soldiers and they weren't exactly guardian angels so what do people think? Would you play as part of the Axis forces? Especially given that some people in here play as the Germans in HoI

I would play as them. The only game I can remember in which you could play the Axis was CoH: OF and some other game.

It'd be interesting to play while you were in Berlin and surrendered to the Soviets.

I want to play as the bloody germans for once! BESIDES MULTIPLAYER.

I like WW2, I like the weapons and technology, etc etc etc. I'd say it's one of my favourite periods of the 1900s.

It would be nice if they could make their singleplayer more MODDABLE!

I could only find a few singleplayer maps for CoD

Of course not. I have no problem playing Axis nations in RTS games, or Battlefield 1942/DoD. It might mean we could actually see parts of the war before Stalingrad.

There would still be some level involving Normandy that hasn't been explored yet. Some obscure incident one of the developers discover that they can get at least another three missions out of.

Yeah, but we're looking specifically for a FPS single-player as the Germans. Plenty of RTS ones letting you do that

yeah, sniper elite is during the battle of Berlin and the main character is fighting the soviets

the catch? its an American agent in a German uniform, they wont let jerry have anything will they

I think the problem is that; (Disclaimer: The following may not be 100% accurate)

American is full of it'self
France got their butts handed to them on a silver platter
Germany is a censorship trying to make up for their past as if it was a small penis
Britain is full of itself as well for being the last belligerent who didn't actually get conquered.
Poland was also rather beat up
Russia is recovering from communism
Does Italy even make games?
Most of aisia is only capable of making lousy clones
Canada is too close to the US

So who does that leave to make the game? Sweden? Australia? A small collection of gamers from aronud the world ?

I'm not even sure there are Russian or Polish or Italian game studios. Forgive my ignorance if there are.

actually Canadians did make a game, its on the history channel website I believe

its basically Commandos with Canadians

I just feel that because everyone who doesn't know anything about the time period automatically go Axis = EVIL BLOOD THIRSTY NAZI's and Allies = Saints going God's work saving kittens and smiting the blood thirsty hoarde.

Just think they're missing out on so much

Only if I could shoot civilians, rape women and eat babies. Otherwise it's not worth playing another WW2 game. It has to be totally brutal to get me to play that setting again.

I wouldn't mind there being a game with a focus on the Pacific and China.

The good thing about playing as Germany is that at no point, do you need to mention old Adolph or anything Nazi related. You have Germans, you have Allies, that's it. Even playing as the Italians would be refreshing.

I didn't even think about it but I suppose that playing as Japan would be possible too, and China. There's just so much possibility here but everytime they seem to stick to the good old Allies.

I agree I am sick of playing Americans. I want to be the Germans. I want a 7 minute long mission about the invasion of France!

There was Medal of Honor: Pacific, it was pretty good for its time.

Methinks game developer Infinity Ward might consider German/Italian campaign if they return to WW2.

I think they'd need to. Because from what I've been hearing it's pretty much agreed if CoD5 becomes another WW2 sim then there are going to be quite a few unhappy people out there

What I want is one with at least the level of realism that Red Orchestra has (aka not arcadey like the Battlefield, CoD or pretty much most FPS games) and the physics of Crysis.

When i drive a tank throguh a fence I want to see the fence smashed and not stopping me in my tracks. Same with shooting stuff.
