WW2-Global

Grizx -

Thanks for your note. I know the US forces explored the arctic in the past but I assure you nothing like this! There are currently about 75 units on or around the barrier. I know why the barrier was put in but I would trade the naval forces going up there (they only do it once!) rather than the land forces staying up there. At least in the past they went up to Alaska which makes more sense in terms of land route. I can't understand why the outpost works for the navy but not the army.

Bob1475,

I am currently playing a Verasion1.8 SID Germany game.

Here is a screen shot of the Canadian Arctic after I stole US plans to reveal US troop dispositions in Week 50, 1939.

In the Western Hemisphere, all US troops are inside US borders. Also, the US has not parked the usual BB and CA in the entrance to Hudson Bay.

Note that I have made different outpost placements than Rocoteh. Each pair of outpost consists of one US and one British outpost.

Also note that Rocoteh used radar stations rather than outposts. That may make a difference too.

Now it is still early in my game, so I will keep checking to see what US forces do in the future.

But so far I am at least tenatively satisfied that the outposts as I have placed them are working as I had hoped.

I will let you know how things go.

If it does not work, I willl be the first to admit I was wrong.

Hope this helps.

Here are the US troops. Same game as above screen shot. Just noticed that there are a couple in Mexico, but definitely none in Canada or the arctic on polar bear hunts.

Bob1475,

OOPS. I just notoceded that there are 2 US DD's up there in the Arctic at one of the choke points.

I should also point out that the Arctic geography in my personal mod is somewhat different than Rocoteh's. I use tundra rather than ice barriers to block of the northern sea routes.

Sorry, for the need for a correction. It is getting late here.

Rocoteh,

While I'm at it, here are two screen shots of the US Atlantic and Pacific Fleets at Week 50, 1939 Version 1.8 SID Germany.

The rest of the US Altlantic Fleet (several BB's CA's, CL's and DD's are bombarding the city of Bergen in Norway which I (Germany) captured several turns ago.

I don't recall seeing the US navy behaving like that in the Atlantic before.

Note: This is the basic scenario, not the AI scenario.

Grizx: He mentioned that he lost 95% os his starting U-Boats, not surprising considering he was hunting "big game".

Rocoteh: I was not going to post again so soon, but have run into a problem. I just researched the tech for Mech Corps 1941, and I can build them in my cities, but I can't upgrade the 1939 units! I am going to see if I can upgrade them in the various palaces, but am I missing something? The pedia I am using says they can be upgraded, but I am using one of the versions modified by other players.

Sasebo,

Its a bug. Thank you for reporting it.

Bob1475,

Thank you for the report.
It seems that you will win a very fast victory.

On the arctic problem: I will test the solution Grizx have found and described in
earlier posts. Hopefully this problem then will disappear in version 1.9.

"Japan seems much weaker in this game - never took all the Chinese cities" Bob1475

Interesting. Other report gives the opposite picture.

"I will finish this off and give your AI German game a try. Must say I was hoping for something that did not interfere with the OOB. Perhaps you should consider ramping up some of the unit generating wonders for the AI - that way we have the correct starting OOB but the AI gets some production advantages - as in the Civil War scenario. Just an idea!" Bob1475

I worked with a auto-producton version first but changed to reinforced
OOB:s. The reason is that with the auto-production solution, Germany
later in the scenario can use huge numbers of units auto-produced in conquered
cities. Auto-production instead of reiforced OOB:s will also in the case of France
not stop Germany from a fast victory.

Please remember there are limits for what I can do within the game-engine.
Its also for that reason I will quitt scenario-creation if Civ 4 not deliver
new tools. Just continue with the old tools is not interesting for me.

P.S.Y.C.H.O., Hitler was justifying the war with Poland by an "attack" on the radio station of Gleiwitz. That was a big fake as there were KZ inmates killed and then put into Polish uniforms to fake a Plish attack. That´s why he said that the Germans shoot back.
I was making a joke when referring to that incident.

Ok, thanks.

Grizx - All I can say is that I had stacks of 25-30 units roaming up there - specifically in the blocking ice. Perhaps your tundra is an issue but I think it more timing. Wait till they start producing units in 1940. Or perhaps just my game.

Your USN screenshots are strange indeed. I have never seen the AI deploy like that before.

Bob1475

You may well end up being right. Once the US builds up its forces they could well go North.. I'll just have to wait and see. Unfortunately i'm on the road for the next two weeks. I'll let you know how the game goes once I start it up again in May.

I do agree though that in my past games it has been a very annoying problem having them running all over the arctic and it makes the US AI less competitive.
