I am not so sure if there is already a thread on this but I will as this here.

Is there anyone that is a fan of the X series by egosoft? They made games like X3 Terran Conflict, Albion Prelude, X3 Reunion and X and X2. I would like to know who here is a fan of those games? I have just started to play them and I find them difficult to learn so far and need some help with them.

I like them and I have a friend who really likes them, a lot. He has almost a 1000 hours of TC heh. THe best help i can give you though is to use the Steam in-game overlay and web browser to look at guides on the Egosoft forums while you are playing.

Also this video guide isn't bad.

Link to video.

Just bought Albion Prelude. Having a blast playing the Terran Commander.

Two things I do when I start up a new game, change SETA to 10 times compression from 6 times compression and shift to the classic flight controls (Ctrl + N) I just find it so much more intuitive to fly.

You could read the egosoft forums Egosoft Forum, go to the X-Universe.

Any more details with what you are having trouble with would really help out though. (Money? Combat? What version are you playing? etc)

Anyone know any good money starter tips for X3 and AP? I am playing Humble Merchant start.

X3 - Just do story line mission you get a free solar factory, free nova class fighter and a free destroyer class ship.

Playing Terran Conflict now !
Did the sunny place - DLC mission from steam summer camp. A free solar power factory in a dead end system ...... Useless to me as a newbie. Once I get another ship I can probably assign it to start making money.

Is joystick a must for this game?

A long time ago I tried to get into the original X3, but it failed to hold my interest. Bought the Albion pack the other day so I'll give it another spin.

Trade a bit (silicon is quite good). Get to Teladi space, find a stock exchange, pay to use it. get a trade extension to be able to remote buy. do a combination of stock price stuff + remote trading. If you have the spare assets (or a satellite in the stock exchange sector) go explore whilst doing this trading and stock stuff.

Get a few mil and get either a M3 (heavy fighter) for fighting or buy a factory (rent a TL, found in shipyard sectors, argons have the mammoth. try and learn these symbols though!)).

My stock stuff started with natural commodities at indexes over 100 and sold when theu dropped below 75. But that was grand exchange. different stock exchanges have different markets, some are useless.

No, i have never used a joystick. I Do always switch to classical flight mode though (ctrl+N). Cannot stand the default flight controls.

No, but if you want you can. AV8R-01 Joystick works great for it though.

X3 TC

Iam stuck, I think the mission is bugged. Its an assasination of a smuggler and Iam suppose to scann hes cargo before attacking. For some reason the Mission NPC gives me the scanner after I blow up the smuggler and tells me to scann hes cargo ..... Dont know how to trigger the NPC to give me the scanner.

Also cant figure out how to change ships? I have my other ships dock but no station X option to change spacecraft exist. Iam going to have to spacewalk it. I think that the other ships i own need to be upgraded with better software :( I remember there was options to order them to dock, escort and patrol which are missing

^The only way I know of it is if you do a exit your ship and fly to your other ship docked out in space.

I picked the superbox up on Steam because it was only $10.

I look forward to playing it in the far future, because my backlog will last me till next Christmas.

Currently just picked up a old and very beat up Transporter.
Wow this thing is slow, it has nothing in it at all at the moment and I dont have cash for repairs. Well I do have cash but need it for trading.

Cant even take on a trade contract, because its cargo space isnt upgraded and engine is too damaged since most contracts have time limits. So I pick a half a cargo of solar cells to sell.

I assign my five light fighters as escort. And away we go to an equipment dock in the next sector
Hopefully make a good profit on my cargo.

Next sector I see this a Khax destroyer !!!
I watch as the local defence forces try to take it on and watch them get ripped apart. I give it a very wide way. Its sitting on the trade route and killing off transporters, the space around it is filled with flotspans which are worth tons of money. if that thing moves at me I have no chance in my transport !!!

I leave this sector behind make my way to an equipment dock, stopping off at a mine complex to sell my cargo.

As I fly around I find a defence mission which was paying decent amount of money. I dock my transporter and order the fighter escort to also dock then I transfer into my saber light fighter (flying escort to my transporter)

(Saber fighter start ship you get when you play as Terran)

Fuji Raiders Pirates attack, there no match for my squadron of light fighters the last enemy fighter ejects !!! I capture a enemy raider vessel, one short space walk to the craft to override the computer system and claim its mine. Its in poor condition at the moment being shot up but as luck would have it its navigation computer still works and I order it the nearest ship yard for repairs.
Fuji Raider looks like a keeper it has insane top spend and acceleration. Not much good as a fighter but once I fit it out with life support can be used as a fast transport for personal transport missions.

I also realised that my light fighters acting as a fighter wing lagging behind. My saber upgraded runs at 275 m/s while the others from 140-160 m/s (no wonder why the fighter wing was spread across the system)

I order the wing to the nearest trade station and upgrade speed ! There goes all my money again.

Outfitting my damaged transporter is its own advanture.
No wonder it was so cheap the shields cost 100,000c each and it can carry upto 5. Right now it is running with my light fighter shields which I moved over and scrapped. Went to a light shield factory only to find they had none in stock !!! But I did equip it with a light lazer cannon for defence.

The one place that had light shields in stock refuses to sell them to me because my reputation with them is too low.

Thanks, that saved me about 1/4 million credits in repairs

I find this a fun game. Lately I have been in Power Circle and I was trading Energy Cells to Ore Mines and I had about 21,000 credits and I went up as far as 37,000 credits. I wonder does anyone know any other trading tips?

The split race which is a monarchy had a succession war which divided them into two houses. While they were busy with there little civil war, the Xenon invaded one of their sectors.

That sector is smack in the middle of a trade route.

There are convoys of transporters ships in the adjacent system asking for mission protection to cross through Xenon controlled space. No wonder they offer so much the xenon system is a death trap. Transport ships put out a contract for escort with huge payments should they make it all through the sector. The game is nice enough to put a big red "very dangerous" in the contract!

I watched a large swarm of fighters take down a single Xenon Frigate before being all destroyed, then they went to work with the transports !!!

I ran through the sector as fast as I could while the xenon were distracted.

Xenon 12 strong fighter wing attack !!!
Thank god there was a Friendly Boron class cruiser in the split system and its own fighter wing. I was alone in my Saber fighter and would have lasted seconds otherwise. The space is awash with lazer fire as all the xenon attack the big crusier. Managed to kill 3 xenon ships in the melee, latched onto the backs of the slower medium fighters and shoot them to bits. The super light fast fighters are tough to take on in my slower better armed saber I leave these for the friendly fighters.

I have repaired my little Fuji ship now which is insanely fast, capable of 477m/s so I remote command it to pick up a pair of shields and lazer emitter to fit out my new transport ship. Stupid game has 25MJ shields for sale and in stock now but I dont have the rep and they refuse to sell them to me. So I settle for 2x5MJ instead. (50MJ can be installed and Iam running 10MJ)

EDIT: I Now own
1x TL transporter with 2x light fighter escorts
1x transporter with 2x light fighter escorts
Bank account is 1Mil

(I actually lost a fighter somewhere, didnt noticed this at all it must have died protecting my transporter from enemy attack while my transporter flew around making me money. Do this remotely flying my saber fighter.)

So, question. Does the universe ever change in the game? I was wondering this because whenever I was flying around everything stays the same and I would like to have little wars like: Argon take over a Split sector or something. Does anyone know if that sort of change happens?

As I said, trading in Silicon at the start used to be my go-to strategy as a trader (herons nebulae to factories in argon prime and home of light). My next step used to be to get a silicon mine L and drop it in ore belt. but apparently ore belt has been depleted in AP.

Another trick is to buy weapons shields and missiles and sell at equipment docks (aleays at avg price). This is because eqs can absorb an infinite amount of a good if they don't stock it normally (requires manual trading or some funky trading commands to exploit.)

No, probably my biggeat disapointment with X3. Lack of truly dynamic behaviour. However, mods exiat to do exactly what you describe
