XCOM 2

And this is free? As in really free? :woohoo:

There must be XCOM 3 coming early in the new year i reckon. This is probably going to be something like a prelude for where they want the narrative of the story to go. I approve of this message :yup:

Yep, it's free until Dec 3. So don't procrastinate.

Looks good. Didnt watch any of the gameplay though for spoiler purposes ;)

I am super excited about this DLC. Can't wait to play it. I think it will be a blast to play the extra missions and get more backstory about the period between XCOM1 and XCOM2. Also, the new armor and weapons will be really cool to play with. Very exciting!!

You should like it, as i seem to remember you really enjoying the shens last gift dlc. As for me, im sure ill enjoy it. But i think im more interested in over all tactics and balance changes. Still, ought to be worth another campaign at least. Might go for legend ironman this time. I beat vanilla on legend ironman. But i found Wotc a bit of a chore in the end game and couldnt really be bothered with the effort - as in legend runs on ironman a squad wipe is a very real possibility early doors due to the nature of RNG.

Yes, I did like Shen's Last Gift DLC. So getting new weapons and such will be great. Also, I look forward to getting some new missions. Yeah, I agree that the end game is a real chore in WoC. I pretty much play until I get plasma weapons and Warden armor on all my soldiers and I kill all the Chosen and then I quit because I know there is not much of a challenge left at that point.

Played first 2 missions from the legacy hub. Really enjoying it so far. The DLC adds a TON of new gameplay. The legacy hub has 4 mini campaigns of 7 missions each. Each mission is just pure kill aliens fun with Central narrating some nice backstory about what happened after XCOM lost the war. Pretty cool! And once you complete the legacy missions, you get new weapons and new armor to use in the main campaign.

Ive now played 3 of the legacy missions. And i think its good. A bit of fan service is always appreciated. My only criticism, and this might be because of the number of mods ive got installed, is that its really laggy. Is it the same for you?

I like how they have included xcom1 maps for nostalgic purposes too. I decided to play on nightmare. Things are going ok so far aside from a few wounded soldiers, and what i consider a bug. I tripped two pods on the cemetary mission. In an act of desperation i launched a proximity mine at the 2 zombies and 2 faceless right next to me. And my guy was not highlighted. But when the faceless moved the next turn, he took 6 damage and got critically wounded. Also, the proximity mine said a flat 6 damage. And the faceless had 6 hit points, but it was still alive after the explosion. This might be because it regenerated 1 though and i didnt see it.

Ultimately though its just a nice gesture when developers do stuff like this. Theres so much rubbish and exploitation that goes on these days. So a bit of free dlc to the fans of the series is much appreciated. So thanks to Mr Solomon :goodjob:

XCOM2 is my first XCOM game. I never played Enemy Unknown. So I am probably missing a lot of the easter eggs and nostalgia. But I am just enjoying the maps for what they are. I do like the narrative backstory that Bradford tells. Also, I am playing on "story" level and it is quite easy so far. Flawless missions except one.

Absolutely agree.

I think I found a pretty massive bug or is it a feature? Playing the police station mission in "Blast from the Past" on "story" level, I triggered multiple alien pods at the same time. One alien shoots at Bradford and brings him down to 1 HP. A second alien shoots Bradford and "kills" him. But he does not go down. In the same alien turn, another alien also shoots and hits Bradford who is still at 1 HP and "kills" again but he does not go down. Next turn, Bradford had 1 HP but was fine. At the end of the mission, it said I had only 2 wounded soldiers so it never counted Bradford's death. But the game did discount my points twice for a soldier dying. Is that on purpose because I am on "story" level, so Bradford cannot die? Sounds like a pretty huge bug otherwise.

being enjoying the new XCOM stuff: did the first campaign, now on the second that be "They Came from the Sea"

I believe so. I think they follow the same pattern that the challenge mode did. So story essential characters will not "die" but your score will be affected.

I had a similar thing happen on the police station mission. I had killed 16 aliens and there were two advent soldiers left on half health. Sensing the end of the mission, i thought id run and gun bradford in to kill the stun lance way in the back. And then i trip an unconsidered final pod consisting of a heavy mech, 1 sectopod, an officer and a shield bearer . I go for a risky gamble on hitting Bradfords hair trigger, as my squad are miles away and cannot help. I kill the stun lancer, but no hair trigger :wallbash:. Bradford is knocked unconcious next round (but game says "soldier killed and deducts points accordingly". I actually revived him and finished the mission. But i guess points wise it still reflects properly. You cant very well now have one of the central characters actually snuff it in the prelude can you :D

Also, my lag issues seem to be better today. I think the DLC is good. And you actually get a fair amount of content in all honesty. It makes me feel slightly happier after paying for WOTC - which although good, was a tad expensive IMO

I talked to Sarah on Twitter and my situation seems to be a real bug because Bradford is supposed to be knocked unconscious instead of dying as you said but in my game he did not do that. I lost the points but Bradford was not knocked unconscious but was completely unaffected, except for being at 1HP.

On another note, the police station mission has a lot of aliens hiding in the station and some scary ones too.

Also, I just finished "Blast from the Past" and scored a 186,100. Got a flawless on the last mission. Pretty pleased with myself. :D

Well that was fun. Last mission turned out quite easy after i dominated the first gatekeeper. No idea whether my score is a "good" score. But it cant be that bad as i didnt lose anyone. Its not really clear though over what exactly the tactical legacy weapons are that you unlock. Any ideas?

Yesterday I completed all archeive missions, including the last of the Lazarus Project.

Spoiler my thoughts on the ending :

Spoiler serious spoiler for the ending :
I have give a silent notion of surprise and amusement at the joke ending.

Anyway I have began doing the random resistance operations missions.

Spoiler 1st mission poster :

First mission was to hack for a item needed to collect; ended up in a tight fire fight against ADVENT troopers and sectoids. Ended up with both my ranger and one of my specialists knocked out and bleed, but thankfully my other specialist and my skirmisher flanked & terminated the last foe before the ranger bleed out completely.

Spoiler 2nd mission poster :

Second was a supply raid on a small ADVENT outpost near a barn; got a sniper for the mission so things went smoothly as we moved forward. Ended with my skrimisher blowing up a ADVENT purifier with a grenade that took part of the roof of the small base.

Spoiler 3rd mission poster :

Third was to rescue a resistance operative in a sewer system, making way through a spectre, a viper, a muton and a trooper before finding the contact, then dealing with the reinforcements before evacuating the operative before our own extraction.

Next mission is going to be hacking into a system; got a psi operative with stasis for it! :D

Is the Tactical Legacy pack a bit of retcon? I thought the XCOM2 base game was the first time that Central and XCOM encounter the Avatar. After all, that is a big part of the campaign's plot, that you discover the truth behind the Avatar Project and encounter the Avatar for the first time. Yet in the Legacy missions, we now have Central fighting Avatars years before the events of XCOM2. Am I missing something or did the game designers want to put the new aliens in the missions and kinda fudged the continuity a bit.

It's established from Bradford's own narrative that he's an unreliable narrator and even says that they didn't really know what everything they were fighting was yet. He just 'feels like they may have been an avatar there'. It's a cover for just re-using stronger enemies instead of making new ones for a free DLC.

Pretty great DLC, sad to see though they still have not fixed a lot of the random frame rate drops and the insane amount of unskippable dialogues, cut scenes, reveals, and lengthy totally unneeded pauses. Even with mods to get rid of a lot of those it's still so frustrating.... especially playing through WotC for the first time holy horsehocky everyone needs to STFU. I'm in month 2 and constantly just bombarded by new missions going in five different directions. Gameplay at least is still good.

Seems plausible, but there's a big one early in the first mini campaign.

Spoiler :

In the second mission he says that back then they didn't know that the Faceless were shapeshifters, and in the third mission a civilian turns into a Faceless while standing right next to Bradford.
