XCOM spreads CIV love!

COUNTDOWN TO FUNFEST 2012, T-MINUS 5 HOURS (approximately...)

As promised, I am totally prepared. You will notice, going left to right...
  • A fifth of Jim Beam. Little disappointed they were out of Black Label, but oh well.
  • A carton of Camel cigarettes (filter, hard pack)
  • A big honkin' mini-keg of Utz cheese balls.
  • My laptop prepped as a countdown screen for unlock.
  • A case of classic Coca-Cola
  • A Casey's General Store sausage and egg breakfast pizza
  • My 64-oz mug of classic coke
  • a 12-oz can of classic coke in my cool Coca-Cola 2012 Olympics coozie.
I don't think I've missed anything. Vr is ready to party like it's 1999!!!

Nice! Yea, luckly I have monday night football to hold me over and also get me ready for this game. I'll be lit and ready to go in just a few hours.

Heh, I was playing classic X-COM and had a desert mission and it got me thinking about the very first time I ever had a desert mission with the original game. I thought those snakes in the sand were dangerous so avoided my men stopping on them. Noticed they never moved so tested it and the guy never got hurt standing there, so...

Stupid gamer, that's me! :D

LESS THAN 30 MINUTES TO GO!!!

EDIT: and with 10 minutes to go, I have my first tumbler of beam and coke mixed and the cheese balls prepped. Note using my coca-cola ice cream scoop for cheese ball to mouth transfer so as not to get cheesy fingers on the keys and mouse!

5 more mins, and football just ended :)

I just played the worst mission I've had in this savegame. Found a landed alien harvester, went after it despite it being night. I lost 5 team members and 2 wounded (also due to the guy with a rocket launcher getting psi-attacked and unloaded near my troops). I'm nowhere near psionics yet (don't even have the hyperwave decoder).

Also, you have prepared shockingly well for this.

First achievement unlocked (And so it begins), so 1/60th of the way done on those! One major gripe, though. In the steam properties for the game, cloud storage is checked and greyed out with no way for me to disable it. I don't use cloud storage for any of my games, period, so if that's a forced option I'm kinda ticked.

With you on such a diet, the Aliens have already won  Seriously, just thinking about it almost gave me a seizure ;)

I think I had one too! Or it may have been a diabetes attack, dunno... just kidding!

Btw, when this unlocks for you on the 12th, be sure to disable tutorial mode. I didn't even notice it as an option at first and I was wondering why the hell I was basically redoing the demo. It is under "advanced settings" in game difficulty option. If you disable it, you immediately just pick your base location and get thrown into a random mission. Otherwise, you're gonna be going through that demo again...

Pff, I attacked a landed Ethereal terror ship. Worst - mistake - of - my - life. (Well, not really, but it sucked.) Those frakking Sectopods, don't know how many, but MANY, are bloody indestructible and almost immune to mind control.

Also, I captured a Snakeman Commander in a downed Battleship, but I can't research him. What the hell's happening? I need to finish the campaign ASAP, since the UK and the US have already signed pacts with the Aliens (I call it the "Coalition of the Willing" :mischief: ). I am not setting foot in an Ethereal base, I am just not, no, never.

To be fair, I'm only 4 months in and lost a ton of veteran troops (and I was doing good too, only lost 4 troops until that point). The aliens started effing around in Australia, which I simply can't reach from my bases in central Europe and central USA, so I took a funding hit at the end of the month. Fortunately, I also got a hyper-wave decoder online in both bases and some laser cannons on my interceptors so I'm good to go for May.

It's going to get bloody real soon.

For me, excrement always hits the fan when the Ethereals first appear. The first mission against them in a large downed UFO ended up with heavy loses, including 2 of my Psi troops (the others were totally useless due to constant panicking, so I had to send in my Psi squad). In the end, it was literally a battle of wills between by über-strong Psi guy (100 Psi strength, he can control pretty much anything except for high-resistance aliens in one try) and 3 Ethereal leaders in the control room. I was scared as hell

I haven't played all the way to psi in a long time, but I have fond memories of psi-controlling aliens and forcing them to gun down (or shoot blaster bombs) into their own ranks.

Gave them a taste of their own medicine. :D

Kick some alien arse for the foreigners who have to wait until the 12th.

Workin' on it! Though it's getting a bit difficult with numbing finger tips...

Turns out those tall skinny humans are...er, spoilers I guess. NEVERMIND!!! WOrking an abduction mission in the UK right now... Glasglow of all places.

That shouldn't be a problem, at least on this mission. My highest ranking bad boy sniper just got taken out by a mass of floaters on the mean streets of Brasilia. I'm wiped out and have no idea how to salvage this mission so I'm gonna sleep...

EDIT: By the way, Firaxis should know Steam's keyboard shortcuts by now and try not to overlap. F12 for quicksave also taking a screenshot at the same time? Silliness.

Game is fantastic. Chief complaint is that it took me half a dozen missions to figure out how to equip stunners. Another point, building lots of interceptors at the start is a recipe for bankruptcy. Do not do it.
