[R&F] Your first game of Rise and Fall?

With the Mapuche details released, I can now decide which of the builder civs I want to start my playthrough with, unless of course Shaka has decided to give up his spear in favor of a pen ;)

I have to say even though I want to start with a builder civ, the Mongolian music is tempting me :) Thank you @Thormodr for mentioning it!

Korea, Scotland, Georgia and the Dutch are very tempting for me to start with. Scotland has a fun amenities bonus and golf courses, and I like their concept overall. The Dutch have those awesome polders and culture for international trade routes. Georgia has a great turtling vibe and subtle bonuses. And finally, Korea has the Seowon and it'll be fun to jump ahead in science, as well as their minor governor bonus.

It's a tough decision, but I think I'll go with Korea. I'll try to balance between picking up more governors for their bonus or promoting existing ones. Looking for good spots for Seowons, to surround them with farms and mines, should be fun. I usually enjoy picking a civ and trying to use them for a victory type that they're not typically geared for, so I might try a cultural victory. I'll probably get Amani as my first governor to try and go for a nice suzerain bonus.

There are quite a few vanilla civs I want to try too with the new mechanics. Looking forward to it!

My games (partial) in order.
1. Chandragupta - play until the Medieval Era or when I have enough units killed with Varu. I'll see how much expansion and loyalty play against each other.
2. Korea - Attempting to play tall. I'll see how viable it is and focus on a few well-promoted governors. I'll probably play until the Renaissance.
3. Georgia. I'll play through the Renaissance, focusing on City States and Era Score to see if I can string Golden Age bonuses along. That'll be my closest to a Golden Age deep dive.
4. Mongolia. Against Scythia, India, Russia, etc. I'm growing chronological, so this is just to destroy things and not a test.
5. Scots. I may have to download the No Warmonger Penalty mod (whatever it's called) to actually get the AI to conquer other cities. As I assume that mod will be broken on launch, I'll just start at Medieval and try to get Great People till I get bored.
6. Mapuche. I'll do a Medieval start to get at the unique unit up faster. I'll use that to attack whatever is in a Dark Age and see what happens.
7. Zulu. I don't know anything about the Zulu yet.
8. Cree. I don't have a feel for my Cree game yet. It'll be an Alliance-focused game, but I need to start Ancient to maximize the UU.
9. Netherlands. Polders. More polders. Polder till I'm bored.

Cree and Mapuche are appealing to me. I would probably start with either of these.
As for vanilla civs, I would like to try Spain or England to see the effect in colonizing other continent. And Russia also, for that deliciously tempting snow city.

Given my love for science/production civs, I'll be going for Scotland on Chieftain/Warlord (since I'm a filthy casual).

Will probably try for a Science victory, but if I get bored waiting for the Spaceport I might just roll over the world in Highlanders.

I'll play an opening with Rome for a while to look around and get a feel of things, then quit and start a "real" game with the Cree.

Probably go for Scotland and see how much I can chain those liberation wars...

Would it be permissible to put poll options into this thread? Or just make a new thread? Now we know all the Civs, it would be nice to have a poll. Technically we don't know the last civ of Shakala ;), but I think it's safe to include the Zulus in a poll option.

I'll play a fairly casual continents game with the Netherlands and all the new civs just to get a grip on the new mechanics and leaders. Will probably drop a couple of difficulty levels as well, don't want to be embarrassed by getting my arse handed to me by the Mongols in my first R&F game!

First solo:

Civilization: Cree
Difficulty: King
Speed: Standard
Map: Continents
Size: Normal
Other Civs: all new ones
Victory pursued: not sure

First MP (against my partner and 6 AI):

Civilization: Dutch (him: Cree)
Difficulty: King
Speed: Standard
Map: Random
Size: Normal
Other Civs: default
Victory pursued: not sure

Scotland for sure for the first game. Been waiting for them to appear in Civ series since the nineties while playing Civ2.

While I can't confirm my choice until after the Zulu video tomorrow.. this is as I stand right now:

Civilization: Mongols or Mapuche (I'll probably just do a coin flip)
Difficulty: Emperor
Speed: Standard
Map: Continents
Size: Large
Other Civs: Large + 2, and I will just leave it at random
Victory pursued: Domination - If the coin favors the Mongols, my horse hordes will shake the very earth, if Mapuche, I really want to play around with the loyalty mechanic while at war.
First Governor: Liang the Surveyor, then Map or situation based.

Government District Buildings:
  • War Throne

Wonders pursued:
  • Situational/Map based.

I have no idea what my first game will be because I've scheduled "First Game Decision Time" for these next few days to keep myself from going crazy until the game drops ;)

Mongols then Cree. Same as I originally planned. None of the recent civs introduced will change that.

First game will be total conquest (every city) mainly to test the loyalty mechanics to their limit. Second game will be all peace (no conquering of cities or city-states) with the Cree.

Either Mapuche, Netherlands or Scotland ( Scotland for science victory, Mapuche to play about with loyalty and not sure for the Netherlands but just visiting all the Civs mainly)

Settler because I’m crap and gonna have all the new civs

All the new Civs just to meet and greet

Large or huge continents map

Wish there was a Diplo victory.

Sounds like fun. :)
