I have now been part of the OT community since almost half a decade and I think that as in any relationship it always is fun and possibly revealing how the present compares to the blast of the past. (woo rhythm alarm! feel my rhythm and flow - jou - I'll keep rhyming till I am dying - I'll.. I'll stop now.)

Here is my first orginal OT thread:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=350964

Thoughts: In the year of 2010 I have been more idealistic, way less loaded with political talking points while more trusting in the possibility of political change. I also found myself to be way more engaged. Taking any single reply as a to be respected POV and flattering it with more time and effort than nowadays. I also see my posting style to be more polite and way less aggressive.

All in all - I see a way better person than I am.
That is not actuarially fun but very depressing

Now it is your turn. And whatever rhymes on your turn, I want you to grape fern (according to rhymezone.com those last two words for real have some kind of meaning)

You can name up to three different ones, either all from one author or from different authors. They can be in any genre of fiction that you want- but only of fiction- and their size can also vary (ie you can name a very short story if you want to). It doesnt matter if you have read thousants of books or just a few, you can just name some that you feel were really worth reading ;)

My choices are: (in no particular order)

The basement (Fyodor Dostoevsky)
The castle (Franz Kafka)
The horla (Guy de Maupassant)

Hmm. This doesn't make sense. I am sure I started a thread before I'd been here almost two years, but the first one appearing in search is from Nov. 2005 and was a poll asking what the most credible news source was. It seems my first one in OT was a poll about credible news sources. 117 replies. BBC won.

Frankly, I like my second thread better. It was asking Europeans about European integration, but it didn't really take off. Only 16 replies.

I did some graphs on my thread starting history. Note that the "date" used is "Last Post Date", which will obviously skew the results. First graph is just a time series of total replies and total threads started. Clearly my most active period on this forum was in 2008-2009, during the financial crisis. That's wholly unsurprising. Second graph is roughly how popular my threads are over time. The green line (views per thread) is trending upwards between 2004 and 2013. 2014 is clearly anomalous (due to "Ask OT: Where do I sit politically?" and "Tech industry general discussion thread"). I don't know if the upward trend is because CFC as a whole has become more popular, or because I am making more popular threads. Most likely is that it's merely an artefact of the "Last Post Date" -- popular threads will tend to get bumped more frequently and posted in longer, resulting in a systematically later "Last Post Date" than less popular threads. No way of discounting this without better data. Third shows the most popular days of the week to abandon my threads. Saturday is the least popular Last Post Date, while lots of people seem to move on with their lives after posting on Tuesday. Again, no way of discounting the fact that Saturday might be the least popular day to post in general.

There was a thread going about some Canadian politician who sponsored a special get-to-know-the-candidate event for women only. His poster for the event featured a question (presumably the kind of question women going to this event might want to ask him) "What is your favorite virtue?" I thought that was an absurd question for him to ask, or imagine someone asking. So I asked it of CFCers.

My first thread here was about someone making a toy out of Snowden.

I'm not really a thread-maker, I'm more like a thread-spammer.

I tried to tell you how Dilbert is bad for workers.

You didn't believe me.

During the great this boils down to that thread craze I was compelled to start the Users boil down CFC OT thread as some sort of commentary on the situation.

The high point of the thread was when Borachio posted the video of a guy popping a truly enormous boil.
