What would be you perfect balance of existing traits and UUs be? Also what is your preferred overall statergy?

Mine would be Agg. / Relig. (Celt) with Sipahi (Ottoman). I like early expansion and to have wiped out 1 AI civ by the end of the expansion phase (no more accessable land / all borders joining / etc.) but by then I'm usually hitting military tradition and cavalry / sipahi. Its a good time for a GA! (and another war!)

Mine would be Agricultural, for speedy growth, and Industrious, for faster workers. (Maya fit the bill here) I would really like to combine them with the Sipahi or Cossack; by the time I get military tradition, I am usually ready to launch a major war, and it is the perfect time for GA.

Mine is Agricultura and Religious (Celts rule!). for UU, haven't tried the Sipahi, but I'm really into Hoplites, Ansar Warriors, Berserk and Gaelic Swordsman.

Depends on the map. Arch- I'd take Ag/Sea with Zerks, Anything else Small- Ag/Ind with Immortals, Anything else Large- Ag/Ind with Sams.

For me, it's Agricultural and Industrious with the Cossack. The GA happens in the perfect time!

Hi Genghis, I like the Celts, too. Even if I rarely change govs, I like it for convenience of quick and cheap temples in freshly conquered cities.

But industrious is probably stronger - faster workers, even more growth rate. I think chosing the Sipahi over Gallic Swordsman is not soo good.

Gallics and Iroquis Mounted Warriors are nightmares of the Ancient Age - okay, I usually go to war in the Middlee Ages, but for butchering a neighbour early on or fending off invasions, these two are really good - fast and strong.

Well, you have to have agri, it seems like it increases your chance of getting a decent settler factory by many times, and this is the single most important thing in the game in my very humble opinion. And citys without bonus food grow at +50%.

The other trait, well, I do like Sci, but as soon as you get significantly behind it is pretty useless. I also very much like commercial, as lower corruption is always handy. However I think Industrial has to be the one, for those fast workers.

For a UU, I would have said a fast Middle ages unit, I would preffer a knight type, but as none of these have increased attack, I could be persuaded to go for Sipahi. Rider would be the other option. However, the more I read about the Javelin Thrower the more I like it, turn those barb camps into free worker factories, and still have swords and horses to attack in the AA without a despotic golden age. I am going to try this with my next game, and if it works, then my vote goes to....Maya :D .

It depends far too much on the difficulty level, map type, and my goal for the game.

If I want a real-life short space game on something easy like emperor, scientific and commercial (or commercial and expansionist) with some easy-to-use-to-trigger-a-GA UU like a rider or ansar.

If I'm playing always-war at a fairly hard level, I want a great early defensive UUU (like the hoplite) along with militaristic and ... almost anything else, depending on the map.

'Pelago? Seafaring is more useful. If my start is dry, agricultural isn't so useful (still valuable but probably not as valuable as another trait). Playing Sid? Even expansionist civs get nothing good from goodie huts, so it's a wasted trait there.

It all depends too much on circumstances. Playing something "generic" like all random opponents, random map, all map components random at deity, I'd probably go with commercial and industrious (because I'm lazy and like known value from my traits) with sipahi as my UU. But that's hardly ideal in any sense....

Arathorn

Agri + Ind/Com/Rel with the UU being the Chasqui scout (Get a good look at the map early on, grab those resource spots and find some nice settler factories)

Agr/Ind or Agr/Mil with Sipahi would be absolutely perfect. Great for early expansion and late Medieval/early-mid Industrial conquest. Sipahi are the best offensive unit until Tanks, after all...

I would say Agricultural/Scientific ... or industrous.... 2 out of those 3!!!!!
And I like the Siphai ... The Immortal's great to since is an Urly Beast but I like to wait a little more for the Golden Age ...
Anyway ... when I don't play random, I'm Ottomans or Persians on standard or smaller maps ... and MAya on larger maps !!! agricultural is great to have 2 or 3 Settler factory !

havent got experience with the c3c things yet, from the original game i wanted:

religious to have cheap happiness stuff for the deity unhappy citizens, and also now that the gov switch bug no longer works and the anarchy period is rediculously long, i think it is the #1 MUST have now.

besides that i chose militaristic cuz i am a warmongerer. cheap barracks were important since that is about the first thing i build in every city (i hate guys with only 3 hp) and the extra leaders were very usefull for my strategy (immeadiately destroy neighbour with warriors upgraded to swordsmen, let them pay their techs for peace and build forbidden palace in the centre of the conquered area. leader was MUST have for FP).

Maybe i will now try different strats and different secondary traits, but i dont think i will ever play without religious.

for the UU, i dont know the new ones well enough yet, have seen some that look nice, but i will need to look better before making a choise. My needs for a UU are:
-Offensive unit
-available shortly after i have swiched government (i hate despotic GA)

Unfortunately, the dutch do not at all fit my wishes. Since i am dutch, i might go play those anyway though. :)
(and therefore change my pangea warmongering strats to an archipelago trader strat)

I'd llike a cive with all traits! if not:
Scientific and Industrious with the Sipahi!
So, I automaticly lide the Ottomans.
I'd also like them to have the color yellow, instead of that ugly orange! :vomit:
So I use the editor

I see people talk about settler factories so much, and here even say it is the most important thing in the game.

what difficulty do you settler factory fans play, what strategy and what map size?

I played almost exclusively deity on normal map sizes and a pure warmongerer strategy.

With these settings, the usefull and productive core of my civ normally wasnt more than like 10 cities or so. Normally i made 1 circle around my capital with 8 cities or less (depending on the amount of unusable spaces in that circle) and only made 1 or 2 cities outside of that circle to get iron and other resources. Then i started my war. With that amount of cities, the settler factory never really was usefull. the time it takes to build a granary made it faster to build the cities without settler factory. (i know the settler factory also gives advantages later on, but my early war and conquest on neighbour is a multitude more important).
I simply never found time to build granaries and didnt need them anyway since on deity i couldnt keep up with the happiness for the fast growth with granaries.

My perfect civ would be Industrious/Agricultural and the UU would be either the Sipahi or Berserk :yeah:
