YUINES1 - 2000 B.C.

Hey everyone. You probably know my name at least from several of the NES’s I’ve enjoyed participating in over the last few months. As the scholastic year winds’ to a close (cue collective sigh of teenaged relief) I have decided to start a NES. As you could probably guess from the title of the thread, this will be a Fresh Start NES. I have taken aspects from the greatly enjoyable JNES, as well as the late great JalNES I (Thanks North King!). For the first 2-3 turns updates will probably come pretty fast and fairly well done. After we have entered the Iron Age and begun some serious development, I would like to settle into a pattern of 4 days for orders, and then I get 3 days to publish the update. If we’re lucky, I may be able to do it in less. As well, if the current situation seems to allow it, I will pull up the order deadline from 2-3 days.

Let’s try and get orders in quickly to keep this nice and fast paced for everyone. As this is my first NES there won’t be too many NPC’s as I don’t want to get too slow on updates and diplomacy and therefore make it a lot less fun for everybody. I will simply place them in critical yet under habited areas, as well as when I think an area needs to be made more interesting. As something I have picked up from the various moderators I talked too, it’s more fun to have colorful NPC’s so I will do my best to make them act out from the other, sane nations. The final thing I have to say regarding NPC’s as well they won’t be quite as strong as player characters I really don’t want it to be – Sweet I have to NPC’s bordering me! Free land! - so you can’t just easily roll them up.

Regarding update length I think I’m going to aim for a few Microsoft Word pages of info as well as one regional spotlight per update. I will try and include any cool looking and pertinent images I can find for the update! Please tell me if there is a minor stat issue with the update, as I’m not perfect. If you have a bigger issue with the update just contact me with IM (If you don’t have Aim fine, p.m. but I really prefer AIM).
Also much like other Fresh Starts, the rules will progress by technological advancements in your nations. I will add rules as we go on, and towards the beginning one or two will be added per turn. The major changes will be once we reach a new technological age. Towards the beginning on your stats you will all be equal with only a few minor advantages or disadvantages. Towards the start age advancement will largely relate to OTL and trade. Once we get to later ages though, it will go much faster or slower depending on how much the various nations would like to invest in technological funding for their nation. Note that you cannot directly pour research money into a certain tech but you can fund your nation so to make conditions ripe for technological advancement.

I’m going to be slightly more restrictive in where you are allowed to settle in this NES. If you want to settle anywhere outside of
- The Near East, the Mediterranean, Europe, North Africa
- India and China
- Mexico and the Californian coast
I want you to give a good reason. Note that good just means a little bit of proof meaning a civilization could survive and a decent nation description for why they want to rough it out in the hinterlands!
For now that’s all.

Description
For your people, the sun rises on a new dawn. For them it is nothing but another day, of a cycle upon which seemingly endless turmoil and suffering await them. Unbeknownst to all but the seers of the age, it is the dawning of a new era. Will you lead your people to numerousness and prosperity, or failure and extermination? Do you have a thirst for power, or a heart for peace? The roads splits here my friend…

Nation Description: Fill in a few sentences here please

Rules

New rules will be written here regularly. Remember to check this page.
This stuff is fairly basic, but just look here if it varies slightly from whatever your playing right now.

Economy

This represents what your nation is making overall and giving to the government. It is measured on a word scale, as I prefer ranking from…

Collapsed (1*)-Depression (1)-Recession (2)-Stable (2)-Growing (3)-Booming (3*)

*If I believe in special and rare circumstances something your doing can warrant you gaining more or less than 1 in Collapsed or even more than 3 in Booming
For Economy sometimes I will simply raise it arbitrarily when you make a sufficiently wealth inducing gain. Also if you put say EC into mining and there is historically precious ores in the era I will give you a boost. Additionally, if you put enough EC into boosting your Economy I will probably give it you. Good stories can’t hurt either…

Technology

Based on recent developments in your nation you will be ranked for now at either Early Bronze Age, Middle Bronze Age, Late Bronze Age, or Early Iron Age. This will factor into what UU’s, general military, mining and projects you may pursue. For now everyone will advance at the same pace, more or less.

Military

This is fairly simple for now. Here’s how it will work…

One EP will get you = 400 basic spearmen, 100 basic archers, 3 galleys, or research into advancing either cheaper or stronger archers.
Two EP will get = 700 Basic spearmen, 175 basic archers, 5 galleys, or research into advancing either cheaper or stronger spearmen, establish a UU, recruit 100 UU soldiers.
Three EP will get = 900 Basic Spearmen, 250 basic archers, 8 galleys, or research into stronger or cheaper ships.

Infrastructure

This will improve your people’s confidence, your overall economy, your technology and how expensive projects are. 1 IC will get you 1 level of Infrastructure. Note that Infrastructure levels can be destroyed in wars in civil unrest fairly easily though…

Levels:
Barely Livable-Lightly Roaded-Well Maintained-Urban-Metropolitan

Confidence

Obviously you would like this as high as possible. It is how much your people support your current actions and can go up through increased trade, winning wars, brining in slaves, and grand projects! The levels are…

Revolution-Discontent-We're a country?-Proud-Nationalistic-

Projects

PM me and I will tell you how much these will cost. You may suggest their effects, but I may have to turn some of them down a bit. They will increase your populations confidence, and sometimes infra, economy and military!

Description

Please just give me a few sentences, and your basic location on the map

Suggestions

Are welcome, but please don’t come down too hard. I know it’s not going to be that great, but I worked fairly hard on this. Regardless any things to improve are very welcome!

Population

Population is ranked from 1-10. This does not matter to much at this point in the game although it will effect how easy projects and mass drafting military will be.

Anywhere in the Mediterranean,General Europe, the Middle East, California,Mexico, or China and India. Just please give me a good reason why your people want to live in Indonesia. I would really prefer though if you settle in somewhere along the Mediterranean or in the Americas. I really want people to have interactivity. If you have your heart set on Indonesia though, go for it!

And towards everyone else, why do I need to enlarge the map?

I assume it has come quite pixellated as you shrank it? It will become very messy to place countrys on.

Perhaps you should draw on a civilized zone for us?

I'll change my nation then ;)

My paint program auto shrunk it :cringe: . But I'm working on it.. I think I will draw in civilized zones, but I don't want people to think those are the only places you can settle. I would just highly prefer if they settled there, but if they have their heart set on Indonesia,or Florida or what have you it's fine.

Awesome, thanks The Loser(I feel so mean saying that lol)

EDIT: Should I release the NPC's now, or just put out their positions and stats with the update? I'm leaning towards update right now...
EDIT2: That's my problem! I was using tinypic...

perhaps the uploader did?

Use imageshack.. it doesnt shrink things
