  • Well hello thar new friend! Been reading any good economics books lately? I'm busying myself reading stuff by Paul Krugman, Joseph Stiglitz, and John Galbraith.
I dunno enough about the campaign of 1812 to say :undecide:

Some pretty good stuff's come out recently on that subject, I think Lieven has written okay stuff, not sure if it's applicable
Is it some American law that the word commie has to be followed by "basterd"? Some Cold War relic?

Can you tell me what you think of Anthonio Gramsci?
Hello dear fellow. Thank you for your message.

As you've noted from my lurking return, I do sometimes miss the place; the intellectual stimulation and fooling around with good people like yourself.

But my life has changed a fair bit since I was a regular here. I'm now married, a father and am back to being self employed in the filmmaking world, all of which require considerable slices of my time and commitment.

And I guess my perspective has changed a bit too. So, although I'm tempted to return now and then, whenever I poke my nose in to see what's happening, I simply can't muster the time and sense of purpose to get involved. Who knows though, it may happen one day, albeit in a very limited fashion.

But it's very nice to hear from you again. Please feel free to share my news with the guys and send them my fond regards, one and all.

    All the best,

    Ram
Do social groups often stay active? I'm actually thinking of posting something at the League soon. There's currently no material for the Libertarian group, though. I haven't really been talking to Libertarians lately, except maybe one.
I dunno if you get points for that. Using an obscure German saying about some dead General in a war nobody realy cares about is probably verging on being obtuse for the sake of being obtuse. Mind you, I really want to start using Indonesian sayings. So I'll accept it.
The Danes and French can be explicitly racist in how they treat the A-rabs and Muhammadans. We willing play to that by going: LIBRUL FRANCE AND DENMARK CAN'T BE RASIST THEY'RE DOING IT TO DEFEND SECULARISM!1! We deny reality just as much as the next group of people. We're just better at obscuration and defending our collective asses.
On the whole we are most assuredly not superior. Some of us might be able to provide an objective view of an issue in another country. But that's the minority. I don't expect to find more totally objective observers of Indonesia in the West than in Indonesia. I'm happy to admit that there are probably only a few hundred people in Australia capable of doing just that. My own experience shows that Indonesians are far more capable of giving a sound objective indictment of their own culture. They do it regularly. Most people in the West couldn't even manage one except a bunch of crappy generalizations with little to no relation to reality. And yet, we pretend we're better because American elected a 'black' (and only cause a half white guy can't by definition be White: Yay me!) President and we pretend that we care about the plight of the racially disenfranchised while bemoaning anything calculated to help them simply because it might help them.
Don't get me wrong. I have an issue with him equating all the purported ills of the West with everyone who isn't Western. Some Muslims support terrorism. Most are moderate and aren't into Burqas, stoning and FGM. Castigate the ones who practice and endorse those. But don't assume a priori that all of them do it. The West sexualizes children and thinks its fine. Find me another culture where they dress up young girls in a manner deliberately designed to give old men a hard on as a matter of course. We criticize Muslims in general about the sexual proclivity of a minority who do have relations with children. But their whole culture doesn't glorify in sexualizing the young. What's worse. The minority who do the nasty with young girls. Or the culture which thinks its fine to present their children in a way seemingly calculated to achieve the same.
Well, I'll admit I nearly burst a blood vessel reading a certain post. I hope you appreciate the result ol' chap.
Do it. For an additional challenge you should probably opt for some house rules since it is a repeat playthroughs, like

Easy - Don't use Psychics. Psychics are rigged in RBY.
Medium - Use only one elemental type for your team. Monotype teams make you use some uncommon Pokemon that don't have the best publicity.
Hard - You have to release a Pokemon when it faints, it's "died." Nightmare fuel.
You will be pleased to know that I shall be abdicating your profile, just as soon as I can figure out a suitable substitute. :shifty:
I like the painting. Its relaxing and the darling is something of an artist so its quality time we can spend together.
Yeah, I gave it up ages ago but some of my friends still dabble it in and I can usually piggy-back of them if I feel like having a game. It's also most definitely not a child's game :D

Other than that I dabble in Warhammer every now and then.
