Dear Civvies,

I was one of the unlucky people wanting to run Civ4 on my laptop with a Intel graphics card without hardware TnL, resulting in the black terrain and chesire leaderheads problems described in frustrated detail on this forum.

I just downloaded the 1.08 patch (following a link on this forum) and IT SOLVED THE BLACK TERRAIN PROBLEM! I can now finally play civ 4!

I have to say it is (still) terribly slow even in the stone age, but I suppose that is my due for buying a travel laptop rather than a mean gaming machine...

Kind regards,

Wouter

sammmmee here it worked for me! at first it didnt evn open up, so i let my brother try 2 fix it(lucklily enough he did! when it ws loading he had 2 move the mouse around verrrrry fast)
but its sooooo slow and almost unplayable, any suggestions on how 2 make it faster?

and one thing i always noticed, whenever i check the windows task manager it says that civ4 is below normal, im not sure wat that means but...

Thank the good Lord! It solved my problem with black terrain and cheshire leaders as well.

ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 Insiron 5100.

This should have been posted as a use at own risk download only for people whose problems are serious enough as to prevent them from playing the game at all.

but the intro movie is still junkie, which is no a big deal.

And the wonder movies are also hanging sometimes while the sound continues normal.
But at least the most serious problems have been fixed. :goodjob:

The patch was removed after a few hours with the warning of "use at your own risk."

Doesn't sound promising.

All,

I'm running on an ATI Radeon Mobility 7500 card, and the bootlegged version of the 1.08 patch did indeed fix the black terrain and Cheshire Faces problems on my laptop. The game seems to run slightly slow -- maybe a second between clicking on a menu and it popping up. And it takes a minute or so for my computer to "recover" from exiting the game.

But it does seem that Firaxis and 2K are on the right track!

Peace,
Ron

For me too, the patch fixed the leaderhead but neither the black terrain nor the blue patches on the cities.

I tried unpaking the art file, but I never see any result from it, and when I tried to run the game after removing the paked files from the folder I got an error, so it seems the program to unpak didn't work for me (on Win2k).
