Has anyone else seen this fun error?

I get the same error, but it's line 177. It usually happens at the "In the beginning video", but on low graphics it happened during the game as soon as I built the Pyramids (small map, 1.52 loaded, no movies, memsaver=1) The map looks like i'm playing on a zebra even though the advisor screens look great.

On a related note, anyone know where I can get an updated graphics driver for the SiS760 integrated motherboard? My current one is v 6.14.10.3550 (dated 12/5/03).

Thanks!

As said in patch notes, many redundant fonts and sizes have been removed. I also remember some tool over here which changed font sizes to make them more readable (AFAIK, it originated from BlueMarble thread, but I may be wrong).

You may check it with clean reinstall of civ4 (including deletion of remnants in civ4 folder after its uninstallation).

Well the patch installed fine for me, but it was several steps backwards in my opinion...but I'm guessing I'm one of the few actually having problems with this patch. I upgraded from 1.09 and have had nothing but CTD's since I upgraded. I consistantly have a CTD at any given moment - even scrolling around the world not clicking on anything. It usually happens once per turn. It is performing much worse on my system than the 1.09 patch did.

I was, however, VERY surprised at the number of people willing to download a third-party patch...I mean, how do you guys know there was no spyware, viruses or malware attached to it? There is a HUGE level of trust there that I simply do not feel for "unofficial" fixes.
i'm very suprised people install official ones (not CIV-related), since some come with EULAs that say they can spy on you. frankly, i trust internet communities a lot more than software companies.

Does anyone know how to uninstall Civ IV after patching to v1.52.

The installshield wizard, (in add remove programs) only seems to recognise v1.09, and comes up with the following message when you try to uninstall the game.........

The setup has detected that version 1.52.000 of Sid Meier's Civilization 4 is already installed. This setup installs an earlier version of Sid Meier's Civilization 4 (1.09). You have to uninstall the previous version before installing this version.

And therein lies the problem. How do you uninstall the v1.52 update? Until I've done that, the installshield wizard won't let me uninstall the game.

Talk about catch 22! :D

I was wondering if anyone else installed those new ATI drivers that came out last week.
I myself am using a Radeon 9800 Pro and I'm running Civ 4 at 1920X1200 with everything enabled and high details. Only thing disabled is world view buildings.

Everything has been running smooth (with the occasional chop but very playable), and seems to be running better after the 1.52 patch although I did have some major problems after installing it the first time and I had to reinstall that game. I also noticed that new games started after 1.52 run much better than old saved games from 1.09.

Anyways, back to the ATI drivers, I installed those new drivers and I have to say that I have never seen a worse change in game performace affected by drivers, ever. My frames literally dropped by 50% or more. I reverted back to my old drivers and it's fine now. I'm just wondering if anyone else installed them, on what card, and how are they working out?

Reminds me of GATOR @#$!-ware I was fighting for years... until I've seen it's installed by GetRight downloader :D

Well, I saw no difference in performance across 4.12, 5.10, 5.11, 5.13. Most faced performance increase with 4.12. Recently I installed 5.13 - and the first thing I didn't like completely was absence of control panel tool, just that .Net burden. Well, I can live with slower interfacing there, but it keeps 1-3 CLI.EXE processes, each eating up 20-30Mb of virtual and physical memory. That's gonna increase initial swapping since 100mb of memory are "wasted" until swapped out. There's workaround though... Kill'em from task manager, nothing seems to be affected. And kill it ('em) again once you adjust some video settings.

I'm running the new drivers on a 256MB Radeon 9550, and I've also noticed a significant drop in framerate. So, it's back to v5.10 for me!

Greatest patch ever!
I am no longer experiencing lag (it used to be that I had to wait for like 2 seconds for the unit to move or perform the action I wanted to). Now the game runs smoothly.
YAY!

I'd agree with that, were it not for the problems I'm having trying to uninstall the game. I want to move it to another drive partition, but the installshield wizard won't let me uninstall.

Other than that, it's the best game ever!! :D

not so much on the best game ever thing. But is there an uninstall for 1.52 in your add remove programs?

No there isn't blue, and the uninstall wizard only recognises the 1.09 update.

I'm getting the "out of virtual memory" error too and I'm crashing when I try to load or start a new game. Then a runtime C++ error. I have no clue what this is and I guess after reading the board I can't uninstall v1.52 patch!!!

My error is on line 167. NEED HELP?!?!?

What do I do next?

I had a problem before with sketchy videos, black terrian, and "cheshire cat" leader images. I downloaded the first patch and the faces were fixed. I downloaded this patch, and now I can't play the game. I choose the scenario settings, it loads, and then the games suffers a "fatal error"--something about running out of virtual memory. This is something I never experienced before.

Am I alone?

This is what I'm getting too. Can't figure out a fix.

yeah it does, it writes over it removing it competely but it wont hurt if you do a full reinstall of the game and the patch if your still having problems. also it seems if you want to use blue marble you need to install it before the patch or it doesnt work.

Apparantly it doesn't remove all of Harks patch. I downloaded the 1.52 patch last night, and after Install and restarting the game I got a "Merry Christmas from Harkonnen! message popping up on my screen at the game start.

See, now, that would REALLY piss me off.

Sgt Grimes,
Not sure if this will work. Try downloading the patch from a mirror. When you install it from the exe with the civ cd in the drive. Does it give you an option to uninstall it or does it just patch. Just an idea. The reason I am thinking this is the last patch used the game installer to install the patch. Just thinking maybe it goes through the install process, sees it is already installed and then asks you if you want to make a change. You can also try this by going to the setup on the cd. It will give you uninstall options.

Joel (deljzc),
I think the official word is going to be post these errors in the bug report area. You may want to start your own thread with these errors and see how many more are getting them. I do not think many here can fix this problem. Mine was a video mem error which is different then a virtual mem error. Have you tried Harks patch after the 1.52 patch. Since yours is a virtual mem error I would look at your virtual settings.
