1861 ad

Things are coming along quite well for an update soon. The new version will be 2.9. I think I added five new techs, and it will have the first rapid fire field piece, new ships, infantry, and cavalry including the Boer Commando.

I am currently going back and forth between modding Civ4 and playing Civ 5. Civ 5 has some issues, some are truly idiotic to say the least, but my game is quite intense right now. They build a patch and create problems. They will take away things that were great in the prepatch game, like getting bonuses from city states when you build a road to them. The post patch screwed this up. I hope they fix that soon.

Hi! this mod is great... do you plan to release any "non GEM" for low profile PCs (dual core, 2gig), maybe with a reduced set of civs? Or maybe you can point me to a 1861-compatible standard/huge earth or europe map ;)

many thanks happy new year and happy modding :goodjob:

Look for 1871 AD it just came out. It has faster turn times and a European map. In fact I was think of downsizing to that map. I would have much less work.

For 1861 AD I am working on version 2.9. I think this will be my last update. I may add some new civics, and get rid of some old ones. I should simplify the civics like bengee did in 1871 AD. Or I may can the whole update and mod 1871 AD instead. I keep thinking maybe the GEM map I am using is so old and obsolete now. I should place my efforts more towards 1871 AD. WWI in Europe to end it. So the mod will go from 1871-1918.

Step one for me should be creating a techtree that gets to the point. I don't want to overload it with any useless techs.

Perhaps I should add a WWI scenario to 1871 AD. I will talk to BenGee about it.

Ok new units for this update all almost done. I have to add a Recon Blimp, and change the civics. Then I will playtest the mod, and list anything I think I should change and so on, before I begin the final update. In the meantime, version 2.9 will be out soon.

does that new 1871A.D have BUG incorporated with it?

I am not sure if it does. I have been trying to get Ben to post a discussion thread for 1871, but no answer yet.

Also on 1861 AD version 2.9 is mostly done. But I want to spend some time on civics before I release the new version. This way they better fit the time period. I may use some ideas from the 1871 AD mod. But I am also going to tweak slavery for the Confederate States of America. One definite change I want to add is Autocracy. I will take some time here and do some playtesting, and tweaking before the release.

I released the mod with the new updates. I am going to playtest and tweak things as I go. So sometime in the future I might be changing some things. Some changes will be diplomatic. The Boers also need some feasible way to attain horses.

The game crashed after a few turns as the Ottomans :(

Also Beirut should have Christianity; and Damascus REALLY should be added, as it was more important than Beirut anyway. I would suggest moving Beirut one tile in, and then placing Damascus one tile away from the sea.

Also, Arabia is a useless nation which did not even exist in 1861. I would therefore recommend removing it, and giving Oman and and the Emirate states to Britain or the Ottomans. Arabia should exist in terms of barbarians which spawn, and attack Mecca and Medina. Arabia did not become a nation (nor did they really hold any cities) until after WW1

Interesting I will play as the Ottomans and see what is going on. I can add those Arabian cities to Islamic Minor Nations.

Yes pleas; and add Damascus and add Christianity to Beirut (as they were the majority, outnumbering Muslims even in the city). Also didn't the British own some of the Emirate states by then? Oman even?

Also when I started up the game; there was a warning sign, saying that something failed to allocate or something like that, with the BUG system; are you familiar with this problem?

I have a copy saved before I started messing with the civics. I have been playing the Ottomans for several turns and no problems. So it must be something I did when I changed the government civics. There could be someplace in BUG I have to change the text or something. Not sure about that yet. But since this mod is old and obsolete anyway (It's based off of an old Giant Earth Map mod), I should just leave the civics alone.

Arabia should be changed to be called the Trucial States. A conglomeration of sheikh provinces. I suppose Genghis Kai the modder for GEM felt calling it arabia would just be easier. In any case Great Britain had a treaty with them in 1853 then in 1892. The first was a naval treaty, to protect British shipping in the Arabian Sea. The second an agreement whereby the sheikdoms would only cede territory to the British and deal with only the British empire, and do nothing with any other foreign government, without the consent of the British government. Based on this the trucial states should be quite friendly to the British empire, a bond which strengthens over time. These trucial states would be enemies for the most part with the Ottoman empire.

I still don't know if thats an excuse to call them a "nation" though...
I think it would be a LOT better to have just independent kingdoms and barb spawning constantly. Because frankly, the Arabs did not own a country until after WW1. And calling them the Trucial states just implies that they are forever at peace with Britain, which doesn't make sense, and is too deterministic. I would therefore strongly suggest that you just remove them, as they are just slowing down the game for nothing. Plus they don't do much...

PS. Ya the civics were fairly messed up. There was no box to field the info about each civic in.

Looks like a great mod, and one of a period that I really like. It loads fine, but there are some problems. First, it can't seem to find the Revolution.ini although I have it installed in the right place according to the notice. Second, there is no interface once the game starts and nothing I do can get the interface to appear. Suggestions?

hi every one, i am new on this site but i have been playing civilization for 4 years straight, in terms of modding i am a noob though. i know how to download scenerio's but i have tried many times but have failed miserablly at downloading mods. this mod looks awsome but i dnt know how to put it into my game. can some one plz give me step by step advice on how to download it plz?

Just download the file, and place it into your BTS/mods folder :)

Welcome to CFC! :D

PS. You also need to update your game to the latest patch. I believe the easiest way to do this, is by just going into the game, and clicking "Check for Updates", and it will install it for you.

thats what i did, but when i try to load it, it tells me that the program has stopped working, i have tried this on my desktop and my lap top so i know its not the computer.
