19Delta's ship yard

I'm awake, send me the file and let me see.

OR:

Remember that file I gave you a few days ago with the cylinder? I use that whenever I import something into bryce to keep the scale right for all the objects. I KNOW it's supposed to be a certain size when I import it into bryce, because whenever anything is imported into bryce the largest dimension is automatically 40 units long no matter what....

So if you import you stuff piecemeal into bryce, make sure it always includes that one yard stick that is always located in the same coordinates in relation to all the other objects. If anything screws up on the import, you can link all the objects to the yard stick, resize and reposition that to match where you want it to go. Confusing yet?

Here's my first attempt at drawing a ship's hull (no ship in particular) using
Blender. Obviously it's gonna be a very steep learning curve::(

That's a start, but if you want to make the process easier, then start with a model that's less complex than a ship. Try something simple like a gun, certain part of a vehicle such as one of the wheels, or maybe something like a simple airplane just until you get the hang of using the interface and the controls. You look well on your way to building a good looking model, but don't try to run before you walk. The manual can only teach you so much, the rest comes with experience. The more models you build, the better they will look. You will get the hang of it quicker than you might think.

I'll definitely do another ship, but first, I owe wyrmshadow a creation. I'm not releasing that info yet. Wyrmshadow knows what it is, if he wants to tell you, that's fine with me. For all of you new guys out there, I wouldn't recommend pestering him about it lest you get on the LIST. Can't say thanks enough for all of your help Wyrm. I especially like what you did with the glass. It gives her an intimidating look. She looks like a predator stalking the seas looking for a convoy to chew on.

I'm about 50% done with the animations.
If someone were to make a model of this caliber and send it to me to animate, I'll bust my hump to get it out as quick as possible. If you think sending me images you found on google is enough, I've got one word for you.

FAIL

Thanks again wyrmshadow. I'm going to put the workers at the shipyard on vacation for a little while. Expect to see factory reopen real soon.

I'm having problems with my internet connection. I'm not sure what it is, but it happens every time weather starts to change. I'll have to call and yell at someone from bellsouth to come and fix my internet again. If there is a protracted amount of time that you don't hear anything from me when I start posting more previews, this is the reason.

I had an idea for a new ship, but I have a few other things on my plate before I start on it. The problem that I'm having is that I can't find enough pictures for it. The ship that I'm referring to is the twice aborted plans to turn the USS Kentucky BB-66 into a guided missile battleship. The only photo that I've found so far is this one:

Does anyone know where I could find a few more pics of this what if ship at different angles?

ok, i usually start by adding a new object, a circle with 16 vertices. I size it the way i want, duplicate it, size the duplicate a little larger than your first circle, keep them on top of each other and fill in the faces, you now have the beginnings of the inner and outer skin for your gun tube. duplicate the ring you just made, grab it and move it a distance away from your first ring, fill in the faces between each rings for the inner and outer circles, you now have the first half of your gun tube. If you are making a gun that is only a single part, like the guns on destroyers, light cruisers, and some heavy cruisers, then you are pretty much done, just resize the outer ring at the end so that it is slightly smaller than the outer ring at the back of the gun tube. this gives it that sloping effect. if you are making the guns on most heavy cruisers, battle cruisers, and battleships, then you have the other half of the barrel to make. you need to make a new ring, so find the ring that you just made, duplicate the inner circle, resize it to be slightly smaller than the outer circle of ring you just duplicated. fill in the faces between the new circle you just made, and the one you duplicated it from, duplicate this new ring, move it out to a point of your choosing, and fill in the faces between these two new rings and you now have a completed battleship gun tube. the most important thing to remember, is that the inside of the gun tube should be uniform no matter what the outside looks like.

Here is a drawing to help clarify what i just said.

hard to find images of USS Kentucky (BB-66) since it has never been completed.
For existing ships, both historical or present, you can try:

http://www.navsource.org/archives/

Here you can find pictures of stern missile launchers and tracking radars of many '50-'60 USN guided missile cruisers. You might assume that modified BB-66 missile facilities look very similar.

I hope this may help

There have been some renderings of that ship done, although I'm not sure about the angles. Try the Warships Projects board, Secret Projects and Shipbucket.
The last does have an Iowa BBG, albeit in side-on profile; similar ships can be found on the Own Designs section of Warships Projects.

The TIPOTS universe does have a few BBG graphics floating around that may be of some use, but that would depend on angles and what type of images are needed.

I can also have a look through all my archives for some relevant pics if required - I have quite a few of this type.

I've got a picture making thing going with a mate of mine from another site, and a BBG is on the lists of things to do...there is also a very rough 3D model we have going slowly.
