19Delta's ship yard

The ship is looking phantastic!:worship:

I was up all night and here's what my feverish brainstorming has come up with. I combined the Long Beach with my Ticonderoga parts.

Little bit more work. Can anyone ID the turrets I added? Yes they were real designs. I didn't have a model so I spent a few hours making one.

I've modified the structures a bit more.

8"/55 Mark 71, and that's a good looking strike cruiser! :goodjob:

A belated well done to both of you on the Long Beach, and the upgraded conversion. The 'ziggurat/step' appearance of the forward MCLG turrets and the decks is quite striking. The positioning of a VLS cell block between the guns could raise some issues of shell casings falling on it, or arcs of fire, but is not a major problem - it is like the difference between the California and Virginia DLGNs.

I'd echo the comment offered elsewhere on shifting/removing one centre VLS to provide for reactor access, but that is not really something that comes into a model for Civ purposes.

The large amidships gap actually works well aesthetically, being reminiscent of the Southamptons, or the Type 43 DDGs.

As a modernized CLGN-160, it looks very nice, and joins a very select group of excellent pictures and/or models of modern nuclear powered guided missile cruisers.
As a new ship type, it has fine lines and fits in well with the rest of the modern fleet that has been assembled thus far.

Wyrm, are you still working on this ship or did you put it on hold?
Short answer is it's on hold. The model is about 95% of where I want it. But right now I'm doing WW1 stuff.

Sorry for opening an old tread, but is this modified creation still at his shipyard?

Just wondering....

Tnx

Sorta, maybe. I'm still on tanks remember.

Oh, and 19delta is currently deployed to Mosul, Iraq. So if you believe in prayer, put in a good word for his safe return to the states.

Well, I don't, but I wish him luck. And I hope that so much sand around him will motivate him to do some more ships when he's back home. ;)
