Ok, I'm going to start a poll on this now so we have time for a run-off vote if needed before we have finished researching BW.

If you vote 'other' please state what it is and if that comes first or 2nd we'll need to re-vote.

This poll will run 48 hours.

I can see the sense in having a poll for this but I'm finding it difficult to vote on this one. Now that I've read more posts in our strategy threads it seems the location of copper may have a bearing on what we want to research next. (No pun intended.) If we happen to meet anyone in the next turn or two that could sway my vote as well.

I am leaning towards the wheel right now but (once we get bronze working) if we see no copper or copper is very far away from our capital then I would vote to research hunting. I'd also vote for hunting if we meet the Persians by the time the poll closes.

If I don't get an actual vote in please count my vote using the criteria above.

If we find no bronze and meet the Persians why would you want hunting? It is better to defend with warriors against the Persian UU.

Unless there is someone else south....on the part we decided not to scout and head up north instead....then there is noone close....not to mention the fact that we are protected by bears :D

Warriors would be no good against Immortals.

Hunting would satisfy two needs.

If we do have Copper, we can produce Spearmen and have a counter to Immortals. The Persians are not the initial threat however, the Mayans are and for them we need Axemen.

If we do not have Copper a Scout would discover it faster. Scouts are useful in that they have two moves. In Bear country it is important to use only one move and either retreat, if necessary, or pass on the second. Also, at this stage a Scout should steer clear of Tundra (and Jungle,) where more animals are found.

So, if we have Copper I would go for the Wheel - if we do not I would go for Hunting.

I agree with donsig, it is difficult to have a vote until we get Bronze Working.

I vote for wheel if we hav copper or not, if we hav any horses we'll need wheel anyway for chariots

I'm voting for Myst because I still believe we should go for the Oracle. Do you guys plan on spamming settlers and then having them wait around until we get an axeman to take out the bears?

We can still build granary (from pottery) as we research for example hunting, archery and animal husbandry, and settling the northern city is still safe, so I dont see the problem of ignoring myst.

Why are we so worried about meeting some one so early? I would seriously doubt that we are close enough to anyone fvor them to do any damage, but I will say on a provision that we do not have copper around, we will need to get a unit that can handle itself, so that would mean we would need to get AH, but that would mean we need to get The Wheel, Hunting also, but my first though is that it would be a real shame that we do not think of growth first, which is why we should go for Pottery as our short term reseach goal, this is for the Granary and also for cottages.

Pottery will allow us to tech at a quicker rate. That should allow us to backfill into some other techs if we get it quickly. If we don't have copper, we do need horses. With this poll open I don't think I need to start one for our mid term plans right now. This should tell us what we want for the early game.
