In Road to War, I take issue with the political correctness in the mod. You'll notice that the leader of Germany isn't Adolf Hitler but Franz von Papen, who is described as the Vice Chancellor. This is utter nonsense. Also, the German banner isn't the swastika but some tricolor which probably isn't even any more historically accurate than Von Papen's vice chancellorship. (Notice how the Soviet banner has an unashamed hammer and sickle displayed.) Am I supposed to believe that someone got so upset with Nazis that they can't even include clear referrences to them in a historical scenario?

The other issue I take is with Rhye's and Fall of Civilization. It's a very good mod, but there's just way too many barbarians! I've played many different civilizations and I'm fighting off barbarian hordes more than 50% of the time, most of whom are considerably ahead in tech!

You are expected to believe that German laws ban the use of the swastika in entertainment, and that for similar reason it was felt better to avoid trouble with regard to Hitler.

There are numerous threads on this topic all over the board.

It's not often you see swastikas/hitler in games..

Deal with it.

Or download the add-on.

BTW just so you know, Papen WAS Vice-Chancellor. And the tri-colour banner is the Empire's banner. You should really check Wiki before making such claims.

Well that is historically accurate. Most of history was spent defending from Barbarians and other invaders. Also Dale has an updated version of RTW check his sig for the link.

I installed the upgrade to Road to War, and it now plays more historically accurate.

I took the liberty of investigating Von Papen, btw, and yes, he was vice chancellor of Germany, but he had resigned in 1934 after the Night of the Long Knives. By the start of the war, he was the ambassador to Turkey.

I like how in the WWII scenario in Civ4, cant remember its name, Where instead of leaders it was Military leaders, i.e. generals. which made more sense than national leaders.
I find problem with the fact that Fascism and Nazism are shown as one and the same, and Italy and Germany are set up to be on the same side, even though in '36 the leage of nations hadnt completed its isolation of Italy so there was still a chance of Italy siding with the west.

Yeh the barbarians are ridiculous in RFC, usually I can barely expand beyond the first couple of settlers because of the barbarians

orinsul:

Not to get into an ideology debate, but Germany was Fascist. So was Italy and Franco's Spain. But they were different flavors of Fascism.

It's like the US democracy implementation is totally different to UK's implementation of democracy. :)
