South Korea - 13 medals only from speed skating. Its strange that you should get that many medals practically from one sport.
The Olympics really aren't balanced, note that over 29% of the medals involve cross country skiing (Cross-Country, Biathlon, and Nordic Combined) while over 23% are for speed skating (short and long track). Both Cross-Country Skiing and Long-Track Speed Skating have just under 14% of the medals.

Those canadian curling chaps are a crafty lot. I hoped Norway would steal the gold from them like they did in the 2002 olympic, but they played one of their worst games of the tournament. And thus a well deserved victory for Kevin Martin's shiny head.
Martin choked once, he wasn't doing it again. Too bad Bernard did, though.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

SIDNEY CROSBY FOR THE WIN!

14 gold medals for Canada! New Olympic record!

I think the city is about to erupt -- yep there's honking.

Grats. At least it was an exciting game. I thought it was going to be a blowout for a while...

And the win certainly means a lot more to you than it would to us. Now you don't have to be mortified for the next 4 years. :p

Congrats to the Canadians. You may not have "owned the podium" but you did have a "controlling interest" in gold medals. The U.S. broke the record for most medals ever but your country put on a great show and impressive showing.

And we broke the record for most gold medals ever. :-D

Woohoo!! Held on for the win!

:trophy:

Great game by the US. With such a young team, they'll be quite the force in Sochi (provided Bettman lets the NHLers go).

Meh, we dominate the best stat of all, most gold medals and medals at large, in olympic history total. [/smug git]

We're fourth this time around. But out of all olympic games held, we've got the most.

Your omission of season allows me to point out that the USA has 2547 medals. Followed by USSR/Russia with a mere 1612. G'day :mischief:

That's just because over 30% of the medals involve a sport named after your country :)

Heh. We're usually pretty sucky at most winter sports that doesn't include skies.

I'm afraid I don't know what you're talking about.

Hooray!

Congratulations to the Americans. They deserved every minute of that overtime. They looked much better than they did last time around despite the result.

Also congratulations to all the medal winners, the competitors from around the world. It has been a great winter games. I'm putting off even more work to sit down and watch the closing ceremonies. It is going to be a miserable month and half, but i don't care I enjoyed the games!

This.

Sort by winter gold/silver/bronze/total, Norway is atop all four.

Close but not quite. The Norwegian NOC is atop. Norway is only atop if you split up the nations ahead of it into their different NOCs. I count at least four German NOCs in that list...

The Closing Ceremonies were a mix of awesome and terrible.

choice of musical acts = terrible (Nickelback? Avril? Hedley? Simple Plan? really???)

"I Am Canadian" bit where they poke fun at every Canadian stereotype in existence = awesome!

Maple Leaf Forever song & dance = best part of the ceremony!!
