2011, another bad year in video games.

I was disappointed to see that less than 5 fantastic games were released last year. This year looks like more of the same stuff. When will games be developed for gamers, like they used to be. The day the general population stops caring about graphics and start caring about the gameplay and story of games, is the day gaming will rise to what it was in the 90s.

Because it works. It's the same reason why the same sitcom ideas kept getting played over and over again in the 90s. Because it works.

After all, how many games come out a year that really do something different anyway that isn't a sequel?

It's a bit like complaining new music sucks by watching MTV. There's more obscure developers developing interesting games. If you're just looking at what's coming out of 2K, activision and the big console developers... then yeah it can be bleak.

You obviously aren't looking at the right list, and you can't always tell how a game will turn out until after it has been released and other people play it. I'd be interested in knowing what games you think are going to be good. There were many good games in 2010 too, and the years before it, and some may not be worth full price but are awesome things to pick up on sale (like Mirror's Edge).

As for myself, I am looking forward to a few but am not holding my breath for others (and even though I pre-ordered Dragon Age II I am concerned). Though I expect nothing less than awesomeness from Mass Effect 3.

I dunno I'm looking forward to Skyrim, that's for sure.

You doth protest too much. It wasn't so bad.

I gave up on computer games long ago.

But from some new ones i have played, it does seem that they are less magical than the classic games of old. Although back then one was a lot younger as well, so he was more willing to project one's own imagination into the game, effectively enhancing its atmosphere.

Hmm, didn't know about that. It was the worst year for gaming without all the companies crashing, then.

Right.... to name a few of 2010's good/fun games:

Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Mount&Blade: Warband, Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect 2, Metro 2033, Poker Night at the Inventory, Lost Planet 2, Red Dead Redemption, Rock Band 3, Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game (haven't played it but my good friend says its awesome), StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty (haven't played it, not interested, but it is a good game), Super Meat Boy (again have not played, no interest, but its highly recommended), and I'm sure I missed some games too.

EDIT: Heir to the Throne expansion for EUIII, Bad Company 2 was a lot of fun, Minecraft, Hegemony: Philippe of Macedon (though both are still in beta), Railworks 2.

Yeah, BioWare, Rockstar, and Paradox had amazing years last year, and those are three of the only companies whose products I give a crap about.

The year Mass Effect 2 and Starcraft 2 came out is most definitely not going to be the worst year of gaming ever. In fact, I'd mark it as one of the best since the SNES days just for those two games, not counting the others.

I actually wouldn't want more than 5 fantastic games in a year. I wouldn't have any time to play them. To me, a fantastic game is something I play for a minimum of 150 hours. Who has time to play more than 5 games a year?

In reality I only have time to play 1 new game a year. Because I still like to play older games from time to time too. I was playing a lot of civ4 last year and X-com. The year before I was playing Baldur's Gate. As for new games last year I was very impressed with Fallout: New Vegas, and I am thinking about starting up a new game this week actually. Civ5 was a horrible disappointment I got as a x-mas gift. The year before had Dragon Age (although I haven't bought the XP for some reason) which was an amazing game.

I haven't bought Catclysm because I'm so bored of WOW gameplay, and don't have time for that time sink.

We were talking about games, not crack.

2011's gonna be awesome. I will give you two examples, which should suffice.

1. Portal 2
2. Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

That should be plenty.
