2011, another bad year in video games.

Half of all these games have numbers slapped on them. The only one I can forgive is Deus Ex, though it will never probably have as great story and writing as the first one.

That isn't necessarily a bad thing, and in at least one case (Mass Effect 3) its because it is a trilogy.

Every year there is a giant forum post that lists all the upcomming games of the year. I am not sure if this is *the* one, but I think there is a good chance one of these will be good:

Also, remember human memory is faulty. We only remember the good stuff. I keep all my games and I have plenty on my shelf which are not good.
You just convinced me it's going to be a great year for video games !
(assuming the games listed there won't suck)

I'm looking forward to what Paradox has to offer this year. Specifically the new city transport game and the next HOI 3 expansion.

Indeed! Also Crusader Kings II, and I don't think there's much doubt that there's going to be a Vicky 2 expansion in the near future as well (especially given how well it sold). Not hearing such good things about Mount & Blade & Muskets, but maybe it will be a pleasant surprise!

Also looking forward to:
Portal 2
Witcher 2
Bulletstorm
Xenonauts (the REAL new xcom game!)
the new Deus Ex, maybe
maybe even Episode 3 (ha!)
Dawn of War Retribution
Zeno Clash 2
Rock of Ages
Arkham City
Tropico 4
Dwarf Fortress 2011 (does that count?)

Cautiously optimistic about Skyrim too, given that Fallout 3 corrected so many of the mistakes that made Oblivion so awful.

And there are always so many great indie games coming straight out of left field these days, so who knows?

EDIT: How could I forget Depth? It might be rubbish, but it's divers vs sharks team deathmatch and that's all I need to know.

There are plenty on brand new games coming out this year, it's just kinda hard to get excited for them, cause we don't know what they are going to be like at all.

Mass Effect 2!? Yak, that game... sucked. It fails to be an RPG and it fails to be a shooter. The only good thing about it, is the story. And it's not that good either.

There's only one game I'm waiting this year... Skyrim.

I guess you're right to some extent in that, in the end, it's not much of a shooter or RPG. But it's the most epicly cinematic game I've ever played. It's like a great movie I can actually play. And in that sense it is the best sci-fi cinematic thing of all times. And I'm usually the first person to complain about linearity or scripted games. So ME 2 did something different.

I dunno, it's probably not an RPG or a shooter (let's not start a debate about what is an RPG please), but it's something that no other game is. It's all about discovering things about the characters in the game, and being anxious to see how they will react to various situations depending on who you bring with you and all that.

Saying it sucks is, well, your opinion, which you're entitled to, but which also means you're now pretty low on the list of people whose opinion I shall consider. You're with that other guy who was all proud to say how much he thinks Ocarina of Time is crap. :)

One thing I'm looking forward to is Shogun 2 Total War.

People complaining about games sucking must be depressed people. Games are always enjoayble, except pretty suckish ones. You're just badly used to something that doesn't exist. Stop whining and go actually TRY the games that exist. Moderator Action: Trolling

What you can mourn, however, are the rising prices of games.

Or they could be basing their experience off the last few releases for games in that series you know. You don't have to be mean about it.

I'd consider this a 2012 release. After all, I'd rather play the 15 $ full version that will be available in 2012 than be a 50 $ paying beta tester in 2011.

I think i'l wait and see before i pick up Shogun too, i was'nt too happy with Empire at all.

me too :goodjob:

Nice list.
I'm beginning to think that i'm not really a gamer anymore.
A Game of Thrones: Genesis sounds interesting, and for the Witcher 2...well...didn't even have the time to play the first part. Everything else from that link is not really interesting for me :/.

I don't get people complaining about the quality of games. What do those people look in a good game? What do new games have/don't have that makes them dislike them?

All games are close on quality every year. What we see every year is better graphics and such. So it's getting better.

Better graphic = better games? I have a shiny mirror for you in that case.

It's a great excuse to play all the older games you haven't played yet! There has been so many good games made across the years, and one game can occupy you for hundreds of hours, so who cares about the new games. I just got a Playstation 2. There's huge amount of games for it, and I have played only like 10 out of +2000, and they aren't simple as most NES games and look very fresh by graphics. The games are going for cheap as they aren't rare yet and people are still upgrading to the current generation of consoles. Then there's GoG.com where you can get cheap PC games for rest of your life.
