The Rangers were clearly better, they had game 6 almost won 3 times! They just melted under pressure.
And the Cards had game 2 won. And perhaps should have game 5 won. But it's baseball, after all - no other sport gives you so many opportunities for regrets, second-guessing, what-ifs and maybes. It's funny how often you see the qualities of your own team shining through, whilst dismissing those of the other team as chance and circumstance. As Arsene Wenger once said with respect to sports and perception, (though possibly without having seen a game of baseball in his life) "Everyone thinks they have the prettiest wife".
Really? What series did you see? I thought the teams were pretty evenly matched, but the Cards just got the key hits/walks (especially walks) at the important moments. And maybe LaRussa (with the exception of game 5) played it all a bit better/smarter than Washington...
Evenly matched?! What ?! The Cardinals were clearly better, player to player, end to end.

It was a close one. If the Phillies fans are still out there, then I'd concede that they were probably the best team in baseball this year. And maybe the Yankees were the closest contenders. But they have the play-offs and the World Series for a reason - regardless of how many games you have won against the Orioles, Astros or Nationals, you need to show up and beat the other teams who have earned a shot at the title. This year, it happens to be St Louis that managed to do that. In my view, the Cardinals are worthy champions, and the Rangers are one of several good teams who could have, but didn't.
I do love this game
