2011 MLB Thread

Lincy's pitching tonight as well. This should be great.

cubs fans, delight! pujols exchanging a man hug with cubs gm hendry? a sign of things to come?

Everybody here thinks they're either getting Pujols or Fielder. They could have a fairly potent lineup next season.

Why would Pujols do something like that to his career?

Werth cashed in on what was probably an illusory career year. Pujols is a HOF, he could break all kinds of records, he has won a World Series before. I don't understand why he would want to join the Cubs. That organization and fanbase is mired in such self pity that it will crush the soul of anyone who dares to put them on their back.

My roommate gives you a thumbs up!

A, it would be the $$ :) nothing to do with HOF careers etc. all coin although pujols is in a class by himself. the cubs could very well be the highest bidder. so we may all be fussing next year about a $30M/year K. and it boils down to 'what the market pays' etc.

I get that, but no matter where he goes Pujols is going to be paid in accordance with his talent level. At least when ARod chased the money he chased it to a Yankees team coming off a dynasty.

it will depend on who the suitors are. cubs should be in there but the other big dogs like the yankees, red sox, phils are all set at 1B. so if, say, the cubs step up, angels, mets maybe, nationals? outside of the angels maybe, those teams aren't winning anything anytime soon. these potential suitors may even lead pujols back to st louis. who knows? but the point is, he's going to get offered piles of money by teams with less than stellar resumes (aside from the cards). so this is where it could be considered a money grab (in a different sense than werth though).

The Angels with a healthy and productive Pujols would be very competitive in the AL West. Maybe the Giants would kick the tires? The White Sox? THE INDIANS?!? COME TO OHIO ALBERT WE'LL LOOOOOOVE YOU!

But yeah, I figure the Cubs would be a favorite.

A long term contract with an AL team makes a lot of sense since he can slot into the DH spot when he gets older. Has King Albert made any comments about his feelings on the DH? I know a few NL guys have publicly mentioned their distaste for the position.

The question is can any of those pay for him. I know the Giants certainly can't.

Did anyone else watch the Phillies game? It back and forth all the way until the end. Our bullpen really pulled through for the team tonight.

Hmm. Cards have dropped two against the Reds, after going 9 (?) series with either a 2-1 or a split (but never losing, and never sweeping). And the ongoing attempts at rehabilitating Franklin continue... He's converted 84 career saves from 113 opportunities, less than 75%. I'm sorry, and I know Motte didn't do him any favours tonight be letting both the inherited runners score, but it looks like the guy is just using up roster space and salary now.

Good lord, the Phils put up an ugly lineup last night. Wilson Valdez batting second? Man, I hope Utley's knee is doing okay during his rehab. We need him back in the lineup. The Phils should also consider calling up Domonic Brown and giving him some playing time. Ben Francisco has faded quite a bit here, and it looks like Downtown's shoes don't have to worry about Downtown deciding which shoe to cook and eat.

I understand why Larussa moved Pujols away from 1st because of Berkman, but I don't think Pujols is going to be a quality fielder at 3rd. I guess the question is whether you lose more on defense by having Berkman in the outfield or Pujols at 3rd.

I told you! I had to watch Fransisco before. He is what we thought he was.

In other news, holy crap the Indians won 19-1 last night. Good God.

Brown was/is slightly injured rehabbing in the minors  .
