I could see Abd el-Krim.

Well, I could see a good number of Moroccan leaders, to be honest. But Abd el-Krim might be the one. I think he'd be cool.

The picture is obviously proof of a Venetian civilization let me show you my mounds of circumstantial speculation that I call evidence.

Ehh. The leader's will be either Ahmad al-Mansur or Yusuf ibn Tashfin. I don't see them putting in a modern leader for Morocco, but I guess anything can happen.

Also, it doesn't look anything like him. El-Krim has a much thinner beard and his face is rounder.

Yeah, and the Swedish king Gustavus Adolphus doesn't look anything near how he really look. Instead they he looks like another Swedish king (Eric "not so glorious and heroic" XIV). So since this is outside US (and not that important if you mock a nations history by being ignorant), it can be anybody, perhaps even a woman.

I'm also going for Yusuf ibn Tashfin.
==============
If it's a Moroccan leader from the time of Al-Andalus, then the first meeting with Isabella will be awkward  "... Is that?... Is that Alhambra? What are you doing THERE?"

If we'll have Italy in any form, their meeting with Romans will be much more funny. "Your capital is WHAT?"

P.S. That's why I don't like Italy and that's one of the reasons why I don't like HRE in Civ 4.

If it's a Renaissance "Italian States" type civ then the capital would probably be something like Florence. And if it's a Kingdom of Italy civ from the unification period then it would be either Torino or Florence.

Also really none of the other city names would overlap either.

Well, Aachen was the capital of Charlemagne's Empire, so I don't see the issue there. Berlin on the other hand was never the capital of the Holy Roman Empire. So I don't see why that would bother you.

As for Italy, Florence is a perfectly acceptable choice of capital, it was the capital of Italy after all, as was Milan.

Charlemagne died before the HRE as we know it ever existed. The HRE began with Otto I. Charlemagne ruled the Frankish Empire and was coronated as the Emperor of Rome by the pope in a political power play against Byzantium.

I don't understand why people are against Charlemagne. His being leader of the HRE in CivIV was ungodly anachronistic and shouldn't have happened.

Well, I don't like civs being overlapping their territory too much. The game is about civilizations living from development of agriculture to space age. So, from this point of view Italy and Rome is the same civilization and HRE is medieval state of German civilization.

If there was no territory overlap, there'd only be like 5 or 6 civilizations.

Russia, the Mongols, the Huns, the Arabs, Rome, Greece, Byzantium, the Ottomans and Persia have all shared some territory.

Same of America, England, France, Spain, the Iroquois, the Netherlands, Russia and Civ5's Polynesia.

The Mongols alone shared territory with: Russia, China, Korea, Persia, the Ottomans, the Arabs, Babylon, Greece, Rome, Byzantium, Egypt, Poland, Austria, Japan (a few islands) and possibly Germany.

And let's not forget how the colonial pasts of England, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany, the Arabs, Egypt, the Ottomans, Carthage, Songhai, the Zulu, Ethiopia, China, India, Siam, Russia, Japan, Korea, America and the Netherlands gets convoluted in Africa and Asia. Just to name a few of the players who overlapped with some (or all) of the others in the list.

I can't tell if your attacking my comment or stating something (it's late). If your saying I'm ignorant of history just because I don't see a resemblance between El-Krim and the hardly visible leader than it is unwarranted. All we have is speculation. It's difficult to know the image of all nation's leaders throughout history; most people are confined to their own nation's history.

Although, you do have a point with Gustavus:

He look's like Erik XIV. Why they didn't just replicate Gustavus is beyond me.

To be honest I don't care if it's the Holy Roman Empire or the Frankish: I want Charlemagne. He's one of the few great generals and statesmen that aren't in Civ V.

They wanted that sexy armor and most everyday Americans wouldn't know the difference :-P

Gotta admit that is some sexy armor. Also, Gustavus is obviously a narcissist as he has a portrait of himself right next to him.

Sure. But you still could draw some reasonable borders in most of the cases. Even the situation with USA vs. Native Americans and England vs. British Celts, that's conquest and they are different nations.
