I can't open the saved file in the civ editor, so I guess not. It is only the French who are effected out of the human players. But the AI's have funny techs too. It is only the free one.
As to bullying, well yes but that's how the English and French ended up paying Danegeld in history. The FRench gave up Normandy to viking raiders so they would stop raiding. If you think you can do it differently so be it
You would be better of paying I can move troops very quickly across the water and can easily catch your ships, once you get them.

It seems that Germany did not get the tech either. England has tried to trade it with us, as he did get it, but is not able to. The Christian countries should be able to trade their tech trees. So I do not know which tech tree I am "in" - Norse I suppose, maybe I can make a Beserk! I also do not know which is my special unit. I suppose I will get a knight someday and see if I get a GA.

I can't see anywhere to change the type of tech tree you get, other than which tech is free. I've changed all of them to the correct ones in the biq now, but this does not help this game. Hopefully that will solve the problem in future games.

I can't change that now, I think it should be OK in the latest one. I can only assume that it is because you were down for a Norse tech that stops you trading it to others. Can you trade other tech for tech with the catholic countries?
Of course you cannot change it now - it is an interesting twist and does add a few degrees of difficulty. I can probably trade on the norse tree with norse countries - if you give me a tech, I'll let you have peace! I cannot trade the christian techs with christian nations. I can trade, as everyone can, the other techs.

about all the research stuff, can i research outside the my tech tree? so can i research byzantine ingenuity even if i'm a christian country?

Yes, you can research anywhere you want. You can only trade the common techs with anyone and the techs in your tree with other Christian countries, well, normally. So you can research Byzantine techs but cannot trade them or trade for them.
