3 grams - Prodigal Son's

If we hold until artillery, we're golden. Don't know where theo is going with those 29 units but she's lost it. Rail net is up, with artillery we can hold the borders and start building invasion forces.

Got it. Play Sunday then it's yours g-man.

Had it and then the power went out.....

Here you go:

1375-1425

The Confederacy survives, if not prospering.

Early - Stabilizing the front and fighting off Byzantine cavalry and keeping an eye on her riflemen wandering around the northern plains. They do some damage but gradually expend themselves against our rifle garrisons. There are only eight of them left.

Middle - Dad declares against Theo wihtout any encouragement on our part. Byzantine rifles capture Owego :wallbash: but I get it back on the next turn.

Isabella slips a Conquistador through the jungles who occupies a border fortress for one turn. Renew the Dyes-Silks deal with Dad and get him to throw in Incense for some of our Gems. Monte comes calling and extorts some gold.

Learned Communism but delayed revolt until we can get closer to Espionage and have a pre-built SPHQ, probably in Rheims. Turned down research to accumulate money for the harbor in Black Lung, and cash rush some rifles or even an army before the revolution and some culture on the border with Japan.

Late - Fending off Theo's mosquitoes and watching the back line. As soon as we can decide where to put the SPHQ we can turn up the heat on Espionage, start a pre-build for it, then call in the Bolsheviks.

Not much to comment on Theo keeps throwing cavalry and infantry against our fortress line. I moved some workers and rifles to the hill north of Tours as that is Theo's route into our lands. A fortress there will do much to hold her off, though it may be unneccessary now that Dad has joined the conflict.

Theo did come calling but she wants Kauwaka or all the money for peace.
The Remnants of the 29 Rifles are just outside Kawauka and one wounded rifle on a hill above Paris.

We've made it so far....

Nicely handled, Bede! And you didn't even break a sweat... :)

Preflight check: MM here and there. Bring down a treb and bombard a rifle near Kawauka.
Bump up research to get espionage in 7T vs 10T. Uni in Rheims is due in 6T so it looks like I revolt just before that.

T1: 1430AD Redline a rifle and damage 2 more pretty bad. Kill 1 rifle with cav near Paris.

IBT: Hold off countless Spanish cav attacks on our coal colony; France calls and we swap WM’s, netting 7g.

T2: 1435AD Shore-up the coal colony. Clean some pollution and attend to our core towns.

IBT: Spain declares on Japan :)

T3: 1440AD Try to use an elite rifle to kill a Byz redlined rifle in near Kente but fail.

IBT: France and Spain sign embargo against us. Ditto France and Byz.

T4: 1445AD Note: looks like the Byz are making progress against Japan as they are almost in control of the Northern peninsula, including the salt.
Kill redlined rifle with elite cav. Redline 2 more rifles with trebuchets.
Neo is now owned by the Byz so I take a chance and move the army + 10 trebs and a couple rifles up. I want to see how many units are inside.

T5: 1450AD Treb’s go 2 for 9 on Infantry in Neodakheat. Army kills it (12/13), revealing a redlined cav. Elite cav kills it (4/5) and we take the town + 6 gold. Damn, 2 Jap citizens inside so I raze it. Found Tattoo You in it’s place. Disband a spear in town and rush walls for 60g.
Our Rheims prebuild for SPHQ will be done next turn but we will not know espionage for 3T so I switch it to a Palace.

IBT: Byz do not launch anything @ Tattoo You.

T6: 1455AD Army pillages road in jungle north of TY, then moves to dyes and workers plant forest on dyes.

T7: 1460AD Espionage due in 1T. Rush barracks in TY. Do some other stuff with workers, then revolt, drawing 8T :( Scroll thru all towns, minimizing riot potential and starvation while maximizing gpt. Get it to +74gpt.

IBT: Celts declare on Japan.

T8: 1465AD cleaning, RR some tiles to slow down or prevent starvation. Also, will add another forest in a gap to the W of TY.

IBT: Byz offer peace if we give them 320g. Not right now. Next player can explore but I think we ought to take the jungles to the N and W of our line. I have a sneaky feeling that something good (ie, rubber or oil) is in that jungle.
Looks like a deal with dad ended as we lose a lux.

T9: 1470AD Hire clowns to make sure the children don’t break the furniture.

T10: 1475AD Elite Cav kills a redlined rifle near Kawauka (5/5)

Anarchy will end in 5T. I have not seen any Byz or Spanish units in a long time, though at least 1 Byz galleon entered Kiohero last turn. With the lack of lux’s, we’ll probably need to build cathedrals in core towns. We can probably start advancing back up the peninsula soon. I only see rifles in the byz towns so take 15 or 20 treb’s + rifles, workers, and army and start moving up. We need to raze/replace Vidin so we can control that choke 1st, then go up the left side towards the salt.

IIRC: I'm up.

Preflight: Dial up Dad. get salt for 21gpt, 406g, gems, horses. Dail up Dad again. Get espionage for WM, 82g.

IT: Monte declares on Dad.

1480: change rifle builds to cavalry. trebs RL 2/4 rifle near Chartres, 5/5 cavalry kills it. Research electicity.

IT: Japan and Spain sign peace. Byz sign up the Aztecs against us. 2 Byz cav. kill our 4/4 rifle at coal colony.

1485: Trebs go 5/12 vs. 2 4/4 rifles at Kawauka. Cannon RL 2/4 rifle.

IT: 2 spanish cavs kill another rifle at coal colony

1490 army kills 3/3 spanish cav near Tattoe You. 4/5 cav kills RL rifle at Kaw.

IT: Spanish Armada ( now consisting of ironclads) bombs coal colony. Aztec guerilla inbound to Niagra

1495: Army kills last 2 Byz rifles on our soil. 4/5 cav kills 1/4 Aztec guerilla

IT: Union of Iroqois Socialist Republics formed.

1500: waste 29s in Rheims, build KGB HQ. MM the cities. set lux to 30%, science to 0%. Elcetricity due in 46. +214gpt. Salamanca switched to army

IT: Spanish cav kills another rifle at coal colony. Another 4/4 guerilla inbound to Niagra.

1505: 5/5 cav kills 1/4 guerilla. Cattaraugus to CIA. Upgrade trebs.

IT: more naval bombardment. Somehow, in the stupid move of the game, I miss a naval landing of 2 spanish cavalry at Paris and Paris falls. Joan declares on Dad

1510: retake Paris, sinking at least one ironclad. upgrade remaining trebs

IT: more naval bombardment of coal colony. Spanish cav kills rifle at coal. Another guerilla inbound to Niagra.

1515: 4/4 cav kills 1/4 guerilla

IT: Dad's frigates flawlessly sink to spainish ironclads off coal colony. TE against us by France and Spain ends. TE against us between Celts and Spain ends.

1520:

IT: another inbound guerilla at Niagra. Byz 3/3 inf inbound at Tattoe You.

1525: 4/4 cav kills 1/4 guerilla.

5 cities are doing 40+ spt. Sala building army. Catt. building CIA. Other three are building 2 cav and a rifle. No progress to report against the Byz. Decided to conserve forces and let next player decide how to pursue the war. 9 cannon, 8 cav, LB, MDI, 5 rifle at Tattoe. Niagra has 6 cannon, 4 rifles and a cav. The Hiawatha Line is still full. Dad's in trouble, we need to start taking the fight to the Byz to take the pressure off him.

nicely done AK :goodjob: sorry, should have mentioned that salt deal was available. i was going to recommend to hold off till anarchy ended but it looks like it worked out ok.

i still believe very strongly that we need to take that choke (it's only 2 tiles wide). it will give us a lot of security in the future so it should be the priority for the next 10 turns.

Let Dad twist in the wind for a while longer. When he had the upper hand, he wasn't in the mood to make favorable deals. When he's a bit less comfortable, gone hungry a while longer, our negotiating position will be that much stronger.

Swabbing the deck while I'm here, and dreading the imminent Christmas tear-down.

Nice work Admiral. I not sure I'll be able to get to this untiil Sunday night. RL (Relatives, Rose Parade, NYE, etc). If someone else has a window to play, please grab it and I'll switch/skip until then. If I do get a chance to play, I'll post an I got it and play as much as time (and wife) allows.

I wish I had seen this sooner, as I did have time. Darn. Will wait, as I can't play until tonight.

My relatives aren't leaving until about 6pm PST. Since you're 3 hours ahead, if you can play and post by midnight that would be great. I won't be able to pick up until about 9pm my time.

Sorry Denyd, I can't get to it due to RL. I'll get it after you.

OK, I got it and will play & post tonight (RL willing)

Did not get as much time as I expected (3 extra hours at worK), so I was only able to get a pair of turns done so far (nothing special to report). I'll finish up tomorrow night.

Done with 5 turns (it takes quite a while to check each city at the eot to prevent any rioting).

A quick update: We completed the Intelligence Agency and then planted a spy in Spain who stole Electricity for 1300g. Theodora came calling after I took 1 city and razed another and we signed peace for 250g. A stack of 15 infantry & 7 artillery heading our way convinced me it was a good idea. We have 2 Cavalry Armies and will have another in 3 turns. Dad's not doing very well. I just donated horses to him and he is without iron and has lost 2 luxuries to the Celts & Byzantium. We don't have any Saltpeter, so getting to Replaceable Parts is a must. I've been building lots of riflemen to beef up the coastal defense. Once Amphibious Warfare shows up (and that will be soon as I just saw a Celtic transport), we'll need at least one unit per coastal city.

I should be able to finish my turnset tomorrow night.

Just checked the original parameters and I goofed on one. When Theodora came to contact me regarding peace, I talked her down from 800g to 250g. According to our rules, I think it should have been a take it or leave type deal.

A question about out limitations. According to the parameters, we can't initiate contact for trades with anyone but dad. I'd like to arrange an ROP with Theodora to get to the Spanish & Aztec cities. If I move a cavalry unit into her land, she'll contact me to complain and I can then arrange the ROP. Is that legit?

this is ok. i modified the rules to include that we could negociate for peace.

i'd rather not, i think that goes against the spirit of "tactless".

You're fine, the rule only applied to trade deals made, not peace deals. We're encouraged to get the max out of a peace deal.

The trade contact idea IMHO is not in keeping with the spirit of the rule.

edit: cross post w/g-man

Will do - I'll hope she comes calling then. We do have a couple of luxuries that she'd like.

What should we do about dad? Between the Byzantium, Celts & Aztecs he's losing a city a turn. I gave him horses, but he's still short SP & Iron.

Just for long term planning, what's our goal for winning this?
