3 grams - Prodigal Son's

Got it.

Boy, oh boy, another Great Library race. Let's see if we can pull this one off.

Make sure you provide detailed, simple instructions and type slowly when you've completed your turn.

one thing to remember guys, is to not assume that the GLib is in the bag. after Lit, i strongly suggest we research BW or Warrior Code (whichever is cheaper) so we can build some spears or archers. we need something more stout than reg warriors.

1250-1225
Settler compeltes at Salamanca and heads SW.

Warrior in north collects 25g for a barb camp and discovers a Saxon horseman on the plains who then proceeds to waste him.

Settler completes at Salamanca and heads south, barracks started. Settler will pick up escort at Oil Springs.

Workforce finshes its taks and is moved to the gems mountain.

1225-1175
Curragh finished in Allegaheny and it survives to the other continent.

Other two curraghs survive barbarian galleys and sail on.

Aztecs start Hanging Gardens, the French the Temple of Artemis.

Warrior Code and Bronze Working cost the same so start Warrior Code.

1150
French settle Rouen west of Cattaraugus so settler build is swapped to Library. Settler from Salamanca heads to coast between Oil Springs and Cattaraugus. Gems road completes.

Byzantines start the Great Library in Caesaerea pop 3 on the coast, grasslands and forests.

1100
The durable Hudson finds the Spanish way to the Northwest.

French complain about our curragh.

Aztecs start the Great Library in Tlacopan pop1 on the coast, plains and forests.

1075
Found Tyendanaga between Oil Springs and Cattaraugus. Salamanca grows to seven, add five workers. Spain is annoyed by our curragh but makes no offers.

The people are impressed and add a veranda to the palace.

1050
Warrior in the north kills the Saxon horseman but encounters an Olmec.

Great Library due in 14

Spanish are building the Great Library in Barcelona which I can't see on the map. The diligent Hudson finds another border.

Even with lux at 50% the two citizens of Mystic riot.

1000
Hudson discovers the Celts and Tyr discovers the Olmec camp in the north.

Fiddling with the citizen assignments at Salamanca produces the Great Library in 12.

I'm having a hard time spending the cash in the hoard. Nobody comes calling to sell us anything and running 50% luxuries only gets us to breakeven at a science rate of 50%, any more research spending doesn't reduce the time to learn.

There is a pop1 Japanese city north of Azteca and south of Byzantium.

I highly recommend we get Viagra Falls and Oil Springs pop up so it can produce a sword or horse every 3 to 4T (8 or 10spt). we are going to need a unit farm or 2 now so we can get ready to take on the French. We will need to start trimming them soon.
Keep researching @ max possible on techs, don't assume we will win the GLib race. Was there a wonder cascade for the GLib for Byz, Aztec's, or Spain?

Probably the biggest chance of a cascade is still to come with the Pyramids. Aztecs started first, and Byzantines followed after they completed Colossus in Constantinople. Question is both are building ToA. If one completes Pyramids, will the other cascade to ToA or GLib? ToA is the higher shield cost, 500-400.

No cascades on my watch.

Recon: No changes

IT: Viagra archer -> archer. Centralia rax -> archer.

1) 975: Minor MM @ Mystic. Science to 10%, lux to 90% (-3gpt)

IT: Aztecs land in north near barb camp. Celts offer CB for 89g. OK. Viagra rax sold due to inability to pay. Wheel done, HBR started.

2) 950: Change Viagra from archer to rax. MM Sal. to get GL in 9 not 10. Science to 50%, lux to 40% (+0gpt). HBR in 5. Horses connected. Mystic lib ->rax

IT: Monte tactlessly demands 10g, cave. Drake kills barb galley.

3) 925: Centralia changed to warrior.

IT: Aztecs build city on our northern peninsula. Centralia warrior -> archer

4) 900: Drake to Devil's Tower for refit.

IT: zip

5) 875: zip

IT: Oil Springs settler -> rax

6) 850: science to 40%. Drake rests

IT: HBR -> BW Science to 50% Viagra rax -> MW. Ty. work -> work. Celts building HG.

7) 825: Drake healed.

IT: Allegheny riots. I miss Mapstat. Spanish finish Artemis.

8) 800: Tyr kills barb camp. Hudson finds yellow borders. Science to 30%, lux to 70%

IT: French request audience, Joan drops towel, WTH. She gives Myst for Phil. DT work -> work. To make a long cascade short, Celts finish pyramids in Entremont. Byz finish GL in poor note taking. karakorum finsihes Zeus. Tenochtitlan finishes HG.

9) Found Susquehanna. Send Hudson to yellow (Mongols)

IT: Salamanca changed to library. Constantinople finishes GW. Mongols finish G. Lighthouse in poor notes.

10) zilch

My only thought is to build rax and MW and go pointy stick on Joan. Nobody is coming to us due to lack of cash. We missed the GL by 2 turns.

ah well, i felt we had little hope but that's ok. now, how do we pick ourselfs up out of this hole? :hammer:

IT: Allegheny riots. I miss Mapstat.
this sg will force you to stop relying on crutches and walk again :) gotta be careful and concentrate.

In my bloodied and bowed opinion, we need monarchy badly. Pointy stick Joan, kick Monte off our continent. As to how to get there, that's the question. We're only facing one religious opponent so far, so inciting wars may slow the AI research some but they gotta advance some first. Unless I've miscounted, we're due to meet dad soon.

Rats.....

@AdmK, remember where the F1 key is?

Call for the Mounties (and Sargeant Preston). Time for a French and Indian war, maybe.

well, we need IW as swords will be used until we can get a decent form of gov't. once we revolt, then we can switch over to attacking with MW's. we will need this GA badly to briefly catch-up tech-wise.
Sala should probably spin off settlers till it's only big enough to do 15spt, then start concentrating on swords. outlining towns build spears/archers till math and cats are available. we need to hit France ASAP or we will be under her thumb for the rest of the time we last in this game.

OK, so Japan is officially the Fatherland. Should we send someone over to make contact?
is that so? they are the only ones not contacted? that's good to hear. once we meet them, we can shed the non-midas and trade with them. that will help things along :)

Ok - I got it and will try to play tonight (if not tomorrow evening)

Looks like we built a very expensive library - I'll try to get IW ASAP and keep filling in any empty space.

Turn Log 2

Turn 0 – 750 BC – Review the rules again and since we haven’t found Dad (Japan) yet, we’re still in the Midas mode. Also being tactless, no use checking for trades – Drake & Hudson go looking for Japan

IBT: Discover Bronze Working research Iron Working due in 4 at 60% science – Salamanca builds library starts settler – Seville (Spain) builds Great Lighthouse

Turn 1 – 730 BC – Hudson finds another piece of the Aztecs – Drake looking for Japan – Workers doing their thing

IBT: Ton of Wanda builds barracks starts warrior

Turn 2 – 710 BC – Archer doing some scouting on the tundra – workers work and ships sail

IBT: Salamanca Settler->Settler – Treasury running low (yea)

Turn 3 – 690 BC – Settler sent W – Hudson enters Mongol waters – Archer has checked out available western tundra – Find a sleeping curragh that I wake up (name DeSoto) and send looking for Japan

IBT: French Settler/Spear pair spotted – Centralia Mounted Warrior->Warrior

Turn 4 – 670 BC – DeSoto & Hudson uncover new lands while Drake is heading around the cape

IBT: Discover Iron Working research Masonry – Salamanca Settler->Settler

Turn 5 – 650 BC – New settler sent NE to claim the iron

IBT: DeSoto (2/4) survives Barb Galley attack and promotes

Turn 6 – 630 BC – SW settler moving to city site – galleys keep exploring

IBT: DeSoto spots a lot of Barbarian Horses (might be age change explosion) – Salamanca settler->settler – Viagara Falls library->warrior – Ton of Wanda warrior->warrior – Centralia warrior-warrior – Tyendaga worker->barracks

Turn 7 – 610 BC – Newest settler sent NE – galleys sailing along the coasts, but still no Japan – settlers and future swordsmen moving after them

IBT: Just watching the French settlers/spears heading for lands we hope to beat them to

Turn 8 – 590 BC – Settlers on the move, one has reached his site – ships looking for Japan

IBT: Discover Masonry research Mathematics due in 4, 70% science, 20 luxury & 10 tax – treasury is 7 with –1 gpt – Salamanca settler->settler – Viagara Falls warrior->warrior – Allegheny library->barracks - Devil’s Tower worker->library - Susquehanna worker->worker

Turn 9 – 570 BC – New settler sent S – Settler founds Caughnawaga – another settler reaches site (to claim iron) – MW dancing with French settler/spear – ships keep on sailing

IBT: Cataraugus barracks->warrior – Mauch Chunk library->worker – Centralia warrior->warrior – Aztecs start Sun-Tzu’s Art of War (this seems like Déjà Vu: Diety game, way behind on science and next to an aggressive neighbor)

Turn 10 – 550 BC – Switch Centralia to library to take advantage of a forest chop – Settler founds Oka – Slider to 3-5-2 to prevent overdrawing treasury, delaying mathematics by 1

After turn-set notes: The settler in Centralia is heading for the empty tundra to found a city – the settler in the NE is heading SW of sugar, with the exception of a couple of fishing villages, that’s probably the end of new cities, so switch Salamanca to something else – DeSoto & Hudson and going to be meeting soon and that will eliminate that area as a home for Japan – If Drake survives the approaching BG, keep him going to the west around the island. If he gets sunk replace him ASAP as I believe he’s going to be the one to find Japan – We now have iron in our lands, but it’s not connected yet. We’ll need to get those swords out there ASAP before they’ll be facing a lot of pikes. – As disadvantage of tactless, is not being able to exploit contacts – final treasury 3g with 0gpt

There seems to be some confusion which should be cleared up. We found Japan a while ago, nobody needs to look for them. They have not made contact with us, so they do not appear on F4 yet. Shimonoseki is just north of Aztec Tlaxcala. All we need to do is enter Japanese waters, about 6-8 turns from our nearest town and they'll contact us to tell us to leave. Then we have contact with the Fatherland. The fact that Aztecs and Japan are both red may have made that not apparent.
