3UC/4UC for VP: Project Coordination Thread

Poland's Barbican grants 15 CS instead of the stated 5 CS (as of the latest version).

Sorry if already reported!
No problem. I increased the value after one of the test games. 5 cp was barely useful. I need to update the description. You can report everything about tooltips, descriptions, and promotions to @pineppledan. I use his texts in my modpart. This help me focus on coding and implementing stuff more. I am only responsible for the description on this forum page 6 (my main post).

I did almost all things about Maya. Baktun thing was tough because whole thing is coded with one sql value (trait). I also couldn't find any event triggered by granting free gp. So I tested every speed and checked which turns are baktuns. It works well but I need to check 13th one for 3 game speeds.

I want to make al promotion description more clear and easy to understand at first glance. I have few version of how all promotions could look (including basic ones). Few suggestions:
  • +50% :c5rangedstrength: Ranged Combat Strength VS Melee units
  • +50% :c5rangedstrength: Ranged Combat Strength VS Melee Units
  • +50% :c5rangedstrength: Ranged Combat Strength against Melee Units (I like this one)
  • +50% :c5rangedstrength: Ranged Combat Strength against Melee units
  • +50% :c5rangedstrength: Ranged Combat Strength against Melee Units
  • +50% :c5rangedstrength: Ranged Combat Strength against Melee Units
  • +50% :c5rangedstrength: RCS ...
What is the most important thing to see when you hover the promotion?

I rewrited that way all new promotions added in my part. I hope you will enjoy it.

Current VP uses vs. Here's the text of Drill I as an example:

'+10% [ICON_STRENGTH] Combat Strength, +25% [ICON_STRENGTH] Combat Strength VS [COLOR_POSITIVE_TEXT]Cities[ENDCOLOR].'

I know, I know. It is just beginning of my big promotion description overhaul. I want to start with these new promotion. I will be repairing those texts between normal coding. It is some kind of relaxing thing, and in my opinion it is necessary to make VP complete. Truth is that probably no one payed attention to that. Look at the amount of content added in VP. Who cares about such minor things like descriptions.

Do you want to test Maya (without 13th b'ak'tun on Epic and Marathon) or you prfer to wait until Persia is finished?

For a better name for the Tug Banner Warrior, we have several choices :
- Mingghan (which is the Mongolian word for a group of a thousand soldiers) : it would describe a large group of Mongolian cavalrymen attacking as one (and not simply a skirmishing force). => I would be more for this one, since it would be a reference to the fact all Mongolian warriors used a variety of weapons (from the bow to the war axe) and tactics (and charging the enemy lines with cimeters and axes was one of them when needed).
- Black Tug : The Black Tug Banner was the symbol of the warlike will of the Khan, and so the warriors around it would be the most heavily equiped and most brutal among the Mongolian warriors.
- Keshik : Contrary to what the civilopedia says, the Keshik weren't the bulk of the Mongolian force (it speaks about the exploits of the Keshik with bows), but more of an elite force which protected the officials and generals. They didn't participate often in combat, but, when they did, they had the best equipement.

Do you want to test Maya (without 13th b'ak'tun on Epic and Marathon) or you prfer to wait until Persia is finished?

I have finished my Mongolian playthrough and begun a serious one with Spain (so I think you should do as you want : as always, take your time and verify your work to avoid errors later :) ).

Speaking of Mongolia...
Spoiler Mongolia :

First, a description of the game (difficulty 5, VP 12/6, Huge communitas, no event, raging barbarians) :
- I began on a small continent with Ethiopia (which took Tradition) : my hemishere was composed of three continents and some archipelagos.
- I passed the early game bullying Ethiopia mercilessly (my policies in this game were Authority/Fealty/Imperialism/Autocracy), killing anyone trying to go out of its borders : at the end, I settled all the good spots on the continent, while Ethiopia only had two cities. After that, I began preparing my conquest : at the end of the Classical era, I has crushed Haile.
- After that, because I only conquered the Ethiopian capital (since Haile offered me his second city when I was on the point of taking it), my warmonger score wasn't too high... Except for Gandhi, which considered me a danger for the civilized world and declared war on me (a very bad move, since he wasted his two defense pacts...) : I used my newly acquired Ethiopian religion in conjonction with Fealty to build Mosques everywhere and gain science to cruise through the Medieval era, take some Caravels and destroy the fragile Indian fleet, and then embarked to the conquest of India. I "liberated" some CS from the influence of others, ravaged and vassalized India, and then established fortifications in case of coalition against me on this new continent I didn't know well.
- After that, I prepared a lightning attack in the heart of the Celtic kingdom, since they were hostile to me and diplomatically isolated : they were a little before me in terms of technology, but my army was massive, quite experienced and with several Khans, so it went pretty well. I vassalized Boudicca before the end of the Renaissance era. At that time, I decided to strengthen my position among CSs to avoid being the victime of a sanction in the congress, and so I passed the end of the era gaining allies and some GPeople.
- Indonesia, the most powerful kingdom in my hemisphere, began to worry me : GMada has too much gold for me to be quiet. During the Industrial era, I used my newly acquired "Ironside" Corvette with "Treasure fleet" promotion to scout the Indonesian forces and, after I said to GMada that his father should have been an elephant, he declared war on me, sure of his victory. This war lasted until the beginning of the Modern era, and we both took Autocracy, which appeased the tensions. At the end of the war, I had a bigger score than anybody else, and my science was very very high (especially thanks to the Imperialism finisher). I decided to stop there to see how Spain feels like.

On the UCs :
- The Tug Banner warrior can have tremendous CS bonus and so inflict very heavy damages (you take "Charge II" at level 1, and you have a unit which has 45 CS against wounded units in the Medieval era, without counting the rest of the possible bonus) : the coordination between the unit and the HSkirmishers is key to inflict maximum damage, and you can quickly retreat to improvements to pillage in order to benefit from hp and a combat bonus in case of difficulties. I don't know if the "no malus against city" part of the unit is necessary, since it is already a dominant presence on the battlefield (we could eliminate the production cost increase in exchange of the return of the malus).
- The Yassa court does the job well : during my conquests, I succeded in having a healthy and happy mainland (with lots of WLTKD), and having only a few Melee foot unit isn't that bad, since the TBWarrior can handle itself against Pikemen in good conditions. 0nce again, I think the observations of another player are necessary though.

Thank your for your work. It was enjoyable. :)

how many do ya'll have left?

and latifundia do you guys need help coding?

Proly should use chateau as basis available at calendar maybe still use old build 2 prod 2 Culture 2 gold...

can only be built on a plantation or farm improved resource...?

I'm coding bonus to farm and planatation nearby of 1 culture 1 gold

current town yields are 3 g 1 c
so latifundia could be 1 p 1 g 2c...?

If I'm doing it I'll set them up 1 p 1 g 2c
adjacent farms get 1c 1 g
adjacent plantations 1c 1 g.

then basically follow eki yields system.
base yields of 1 1 2
2 gold at currency
2 culture at civil service
1 production 1 gold at economics

I'd forget the spawning of resources because don't know how to code that.

can only be built next to a luxory or wheat if I could learn how to add that...

Final yields 2 P 4 G 4 C +1 C +1 F to plantations and farms... can first be built at calandar.

I can change the name of Tug Banner Warrior to Black Tug. Short and simple. I also think about :
  • changing Massacre promotion name to Mingghan,
  • changing Pillaged Tile Bonus promotion name to Massacre,
  • reducing by 1 or 2 CP,
  • bringing back base production cost,
  • bringing back city assault bonus.
Are you with me?

Seriously guys did you finish Latifundia I have a new comp so I can help with things

Oh and guess I'll do zulu and songhai
Zulu isc and izind

Songhai sofa.

@Jarula:
In total, 28 are complete
3 are incomplete
  • Venice - need to give them back their UU and the whole laguna idea needs work (need to differentiate more from tersane, fix art, fix text, it’s all just a complete mess, really) (I've started working on this myself)
  • Egypt - Nilometre needs to spawn flax
  • Carthage - bug fixes which require disabling VP's historical events and supply cap, so I don’t know if that’s even possible. Can @Blue Ghost advise?
4 are in progress by @Blue Ghost (Morocco, Portugal, Germany, Japan)
2 are in progress by @adan_eslavo (Maya, Persia)
You have Rome
That leaves Inca, Huns, Zulu, Songhai, and Korea

I’ve put art assets and coding resources into a file for all of these on the front page. That includes custom art for the latifundium so you don’t have to copy the chateau.
You can check the 4UC by civilization spreadsheet for what was decided for Rome’s unit/improvement.

Honestly, the proposal for Rome, while a lot of pre-existing lua code exists, is very complex and lua-intensive. You would probably have a better time of Songhai or Korea’s proposals

Basically I was just going to snab from 125 civs and edit.

Has the basic yields been agreed upon?

Was thinking prolly should have ALL it's improvements before industrialization then like none after.

How does mine sound 1 p 1 g 2 c for start unlocks at calendar...

What about modifying Pairidaeza as follows:
Spoiler Pairidaeza Modification :
+3 :c5culture: Culture and +3 :c5gold: Gold to Writer, Artist and Musician Guilds in City.
to:
+3 :c5culture: to Writer, Artist and Musician Guilds in City. +1 :c5gold: and +2 :c5goldenage: to Artist, Writer and Musician Specialist in the city.
:c5culture: output is the same if we put all 2 specialists to the building. Instead of flat 3 flat :c5gold: we can generate 2 :c5gold: and 4 :c5goldenage: per guild. If it is too much we can lower it to 2 :c5goldenage:.

I tried to keep the paridaeza unique from the Kabuki theater by giving yields to guilds in one and giving increased specialist yields in the other. I think we should stay away form giving Persia more sources of GAPs, they already have 2 (qizilbash and satrap's court). If we make getting golden ages too trivial then the Persian playstyle will feel bland.

for flavor, I preferred the idea that the guilds were enhanced by the construction of these gardens in these cities, but the civ doesn't necessarily feel the need to fill them. Persia isn't a GP-focused civ after all, though GArtists are certainly useful for kicking off GAs

As I could see Purchasing unit with faith isn't something really unique. Many units have this ability. We should find something more unique for Qizilbash then.

Isn’t it? What other military unit can be bought with faith without requiring a specific religious tenet?

I looked at RequiredPurchaseFaithEnabled value. You can check that in SQL. I didn't look further if there's value connected with Belief.

Oh that’s for, like, missionaries and things that can only be purchased with faith. The intent was that qizilbash could be purchased normally or with faith without the necessary “holy warriors” tenet

Edit: I think the way to do this is thus: CP modified the game code so as to allow more flexibility for specific unit classes that can be unlocked for purchase with faith based on policies. I think the easiest way to tackle this, then, is to create a dummy finisher policy for Persia which acts like a policy tree finisher in unlocking the lancer unitclass for faith purchase for persia

The relevant thread
relevant thread for making dummy policies
relevant post where whoward69 describes how to make "orphan policies" that don't contribute to future policy cost

After the dummy policy is in place, all it should take is this XML code:
Code:
<GameData>
<Policy_FaithPurchaseUnitClasses>
        <Row>
            <PolicyType>POLICY_PERSIAN_FINISHER</PolicyType>
            <UnitClassType>UNITCLASS_LANCER</UnitClassType>
        </Row>
    </Policy_FaithPurchaseUnitClasses>
</GameData>
I think it should be possible

In other news, this is the current picture for the Laguna in Enginseer's mod.
Spoiler :

....yup

And this is an icon for a breakwater building which SushiSquid made for England

Should i replace Enginseer's picture with this, or do I need to make a new icon? Is this good enough?

Just loaded up @Blue Ghost's latest version and the exam hall is no longer present.

I was also thinking about the Madrasah and how @Hinin said we should spice it up a bit. Would it be possible to have the building give 20% of the cost of a faith purchase as science instead of a static scaling amount? Essentially a bank, but for faith instead of gold. The current system encourages you to make tons of small purchases, but Arabia should be saving up for buying GPs, so it looks anti-synergistic.
