Sorry to be stubborn but I asked 2 times about other civ's flavors but that question died among others. Do we need to adjust them to new units? F.e. france should be now more oriented to air and science to use new plane and grande ecole.
I am not really sure, to be honest. The multiple UBs often have multiple different flavours which should make them attractive enough in their own right that minimal changing of the AI should be needed (ie the public school = FlavourScience, the Grande Ecole = FlavourScience, FlavourProduction & FlavourCulture)

There are definitely exceptions and changes that we have made to balance that will force us to change AI behaviours.

For instance, we made Iroquois a diplomatic civ with the Sachems council, where previously they weren't
We gave Celts a UGT replacement for the Town, and so we have to make sure the AI prioritizes GMs enough to make use of that.
We gave France an edge in the air, so we should probably increase his emphasis on air superiority
We gave Ottomans and Indonesia naval bonuses that they never had before, so they should place greater priority on naval power, perhaps at the expense of their land military flavours.

Some of these, like Iroquois and Celts, are very obvious and very necessdary. Some of them, like Polynesia and Sweden, are so in-line with their existing flavours that I doubt any change is necessary at all. And then the rest, like Indonesia, or France, I guess We'll see

More oddities as I am testing. Am now seeing Arzenale di Venezia unlock at guilds as Russia. Can't build it as I can't get Piazza San Marco, but somewhere something went a bit skewed if I am seeing it in my tech tree. Probably more of the same that had me seeing Pogost upgrades when non-Russia.

Just done a playtest with Mongolia and, once again, I have some things to say :

- Some of the Yassa courts effects aren't very noticable (except the fact that puppet cities build them by themselves) : the +5 turns of WLTKD aren't enough to be of real impact (I think 10 would be better, knowing that it requires to conquer a city, with all the consequences this task represents) ; the production bonus to terrestrial mounted and ranged units is also quite negligeable (+10 % production isn't enough when compared to what a Runestone, a Ducal stable or a Siege foundry ; I understand that these buildings are much more specialized, but I think +20 % production would feel better and allow Mongolia to keep the pressure).

- The Greeks were ultra-dominant in that one (and I could do nothing about it : they were loved by others and were nearly one age and a half before me) : the Agora is, I humbly think, a little bland in its effects but still very powerful if Greece play wide while supported by Hoplites (which it did this time), and I would like to ask a new phase of reflection about this building (for me, it should be a stronger mix between a chancery and a market, and not give faith and culture (the Acropolis already does the job on that side), so that Greece can built the early alliances it needs in the early game).

Hello all,
I've got reading to still catch up on but I got busy for a bit and have been unable to respond. I have a few questions if anyone has answers:
  1. What's the process for asking Janboruta to use his White Tower art for the mod? It's already a part of CiD
  2. How do I reference the Longbowman art already in use by Firaxis? Like in the sample SQL below:
Code:
INSERT INTO ArtDefine_StrategicView
            (StrategicViewType, TileType, Asset)
VALUES        ('ART_DEF_UNIT_ENGLAND_LONGBOWMAN',    'Unit',        'INSERT FIXRAXIS ASSET HERE');

What's the process for asking Janboruta to use his White Tower art for the mod? It's already a part of CiD

Hello there ! :)
When I was collecting authorisations for using arts from different modders, I simply used the private conversation system to ask politely to JFD and Janboruta at the same time (I still think asking to both in a formal manner is the most respectful solution).

I don't think you need to mess with the longbowman's assets, the unit is completely intact, just not where you need it to be.

Delete the unit class and remove the longbowman from its current unitclass_type list for the longbowman, and then insert it into the unitclass overrides for England.

@Hinin, When you were collecting permissions, did Janboruta Lastsword and others give you carte blanche to use their assets for this project, or is it more of a case of them giving consent for assets on a case-by-case basis? I'm worried that if everyone that helps with this project asks separately for permissions from people, they will begin to view us as a nuisance and we will create ill-will. Better to ask once and communicate who has and has not released their work to us.

I recall you listed all the people whom you had been granted permissions from in an earlier post, but it's now buried. If you could re-post it, and then we could get @Blue Ghost to sticky in one of the first posts, then we could cease pestering people.

I know that I asked Cardboardmech for use of his icons, and he quickly gave them to me. I did the same for JFD, Janboruta, Civitar and TPangolin and I got ignored. I think that has to do with many of the more prominent modders having either a) moved on, or b) reached a point where people like us are viewed as junk mail, or vultures picking at their old work.

Here is the list I did at that time.

Spoiler Quote :

So... Here is the list of the components (concepts, pictures, 3D models, pieces of codes) I'll try to borrow from modders in order to have a mod far more easy to make. Of course, before anything, I must obtain their agreement, and this is why I'll begin to send demands today (8th May) before initiating the "training phase".

If a creator has accepted that I use its creations, I'll indicate this with a :c5happy: next to the elements.

Of course, all help is welcome.

My initial message :

Spoiler Initial message :

Hello,

I have began a project last month called "Vox Populi 3rd and 4th Components" which, as its name indicate, has for objective to add 2 new unique components for each civilizations of the base game, components adapted to be used with the complete VP modpack.

Because I have absolutely no competence in any domain useful for doing mods, but am motivated enough to learn how to code for Civ V during the next months, I wanted to ask in advance to both of you if I could use elements from your mods in this project (I speak to both of you in the same conversation because of all the work you've done together, and a majority of the components I need come from your mods) : using your work without your permission would be shameful, but doing the mod without it would be daunting.

These elements would be :
- permissions from both of you to inspired myself from gameplay concepts of some of your mods (and simply to refer myself to some of your mods during the advance of the project)
- icons and flags from units and buildings made by Janboruta
- some codes written by JFD

Here is the exact list of the elements I would like to have your permission to use :

Codes :
- the code used for the IS-2 UU of the Soviet Union (Staline) mod : since the UU I would like to implement for Austria will benefit from a bonus which depends on the diplomatic state with other civs, what you did for the IS-2 could greatly help later in the development ;
- the codes used for the Jaeger of the Germany (Hitler) mod : this UU is really of excellent quality and I would like to use it almost as you made it in my mod ;
- any piece of advice :) (if it is possible)
- the names of people maybe ready to help me in the coding process

Icons and flags :
- for the Landwehr
- for the Kibitium (Hammurabi)
- for the Shophet (Hannibal)
- for the Longship (Denmark-Norway Christian IV)
- for the Kopesh and the Nilometer (Akhenaten and Hatshepsut)
- for the Jaeger (Hitler)
- for the Daimyo (Meiji)
- for the Voivode (Sigismund II)
- for the Koa (Hawaii Kamehameha)
- for the Streltsy and the Sobor (Muscovy Ivan IV)
- for the Stave church (Norway Haakon IV)
- for the Konuks'wu (Olmec U Kix Chan)
- for the Goedendag (Flanders Robrecht III)
- any piece of advice :) (if it is possible)
- the names of people maybe ready to help me

Whatever your answers are, I want to thank you for taking time reading this, maybe for answering me and, the most important, for all your hard work for the Civ V community.

Have a nice week :)

JFD : "For code and ideas, feel free to use whatever you see fit."
Janboruta : "Pretty much anything I made for Civ V is free to use - provided the authors of mods that house the artwork also agree. But you've got the green light from me."

@BazaarJack, how you doin? Any updates on Japan and Germany? Any ideas you have for Portugal or Morocco? You could take over Rome for jarula and have all the axis powers

Hey, I couldn't get into my office to start coding the last couple weeks. I'm targeting completion of Japan and Germany over the Thanksgiving break this weekend (some much needed downtime for 'muricans).

I posted some ideas for Morocco a while back in this thread, but they're certainly buried.. you guys have been busy!
https://forums.civfanatics.com/thre...ordination-thread.623355/page-7#post-14902133

=Summary=
1. Berber Pirates - "gift of the pharoah" on a naval unit (maybe 2x unit strength)
2. A national wonder replacement that gives an extra trade route (if early in the tree) or 2 (if later in the tree). I'm hesitant to add much tourism changes in our mod, because the balance is already so delicate in the community patch, and tends towards being too powerful IMO.

From what I can say :
- Danrell, who did most of the 3D models I wanted, cannot be joined on civfanatics
- lincoln-lyf, author of Super Power : Clash of civilizations, has gone silent
- Barathor, Neirai, hangman, Leugi, Gazebo and bernie14 have answered positively to my demand during my absence.

Why not give Morocco uu Corsair or give it land UU but make the UB grant sweet naval promotions.

UB maybe riad. Grants extra culture percent midifier for each trade route. Maybe to be funky replacing canavasary? Or better yet grants culture to each trade route. Each incoming trade route grants extra culture and gold maybe +2 c +2 g.

Or to avoid percentages grant culture whenever trade route finishes

I like your idea of the Barbary corsairs. It will be easier to find assets for them too.

I think the riad is precisely what you’re looking for, they could still be garden replacements, but it’s much easier to come up with a trade route synergy for that. There’s already resources for a riad building

I would be careful with a UW that focuses on trade. You basically described carthage’s cothon

Personally I think canavasary... Or baths without freshwater req.

Morocco is like garden craziness. Give coursairs the ability to capture ships.

Or a unique admiral replacement unit. Has strength of strongest naval UU. Can capture ships and grants negative modifier to nearby units...

Or grants the ability to capture ships to nearby naval units and can be expended to create a trade route maybe that's too strong

I got permission from KevinJK and mikeburnfire for their art assets.

It would be best if one of us was in charge of contacting people for permissions. Hinin, do you want to take that?

I am updating the list of people who contributed to my part every update. Unfortunately I have not time to aske them for permissions yet and wanted to wait until finished. But itwould be good if someone elsectook this job and free me up from this necessity (I would have more time for coding).

Oh maybe we could do this as a mega mod...

Synth this with faith and Union and cbp compatibility

Okay so trying to debug my stuff I'm even more confused. I haven't changed anything; it just stopped working entirely

I boot up SQLiteSpy and the debug database is trying to tell me that my code which worked 2 weeks ago is no good. It says the tables I'm trying to use don't exist, tables like "Type", and "Language_en_US". Ultra basic stuff, just kaput. the hell is going on here?

Put your database.log file.

I don't have one. Are you guys all using sql database servers to do this? I've just been using notepad++

Edit: uploaded Indonesia and Sweden. They are not currently working, but people can take a look at them at least. I'll update this later. going to bed. Gaaaahhh... [pissed]

You need probably to enable loging in civ setting file in my folder. This should help. Then in my docs folder where civ 5 files are located in logs folder you should find all logs. It is simple text file. I open it with n++.

Notes:
Prau should be upgraded to caravel not corvette (privateer).
I cannot find anything in logs. Anyone?
