5 in 1 (mystery SG with twists) - Emperor

Cuivienen told me via PM she would like to drop out.

So this leaves us with:

TimBentley
Kiech (maybe?)
Microbe
grs
viper275

I could play it sometime today/tonight and pass it to viper with the list of variants Locomotive had. I will do so if no one objects till then.

PreTurn: Set research up to 40% and lux up to 20%. Change cities to knights and towns to settlers. We still have a 5 turn long deal running with the Vikings so we have to wait. Change border towns to barracks.

IBT: Scandinavia and Persia sign MA vs Maya and declare.

260AD: Chuito founded.

IBT: 16 barb horses show.

270AD: Chuquiapo founded. Xerxes has Gunpowder, but we cant buy it with all our gpt.

IBT: Vikings want ROP and MA vs Maya - no. Maya and Persia sign peace.

280AD: Spain has gunpowder too. 59g and 55gpt to Persia for Gunpowder. Gunpowder for Education and 4gpt to Japan. Gunpowder for 29gpt and 209g to the Maya. The others are broke. There is no salpeter in our lands, next is near Erech (which I can remember we did not take many turns ago :( )

IBT: --

290AD: Move troops in position. Spend all gold; we will get plundered now.

IBT: Lose 1 spear, 1 worker 2 gold and 4 shields to 16 barb horses.

300AD: Declare on Vikings. Kill 2 spears and take Reykjavik and capture 1 gold and 1 catapult. Kill 2 spears, lose 1 knight and capture Birka. Kill 2 spears and raze Hareid. Capture 2 slaves and kill a zerk in the open.

IBT: Sumeria kills an viking spear for us.

310AD: Huanuco Pampa founded. Kill 2 spears and take Odense. Kill a barb galley. Capture a slave.

IBT: Lose a settler to barbs.

320AD: Disperse a barb camp. Kill 1 spear at Alesund but fail to take it.

IBT: Lose a pike to a zerk.

330AD: Kill an archer and get a leader; build army, fill it with knights, kill 2 spears and take Alesund. Tamboccocha founded.

IBT: Scandinavia and Sumeria sign peace. We need to be careful to avoid a dogpile.

340AD: Kill a spear and a wounded zerk. Scandinavia has muskets so probably there is salpeter somewhere, but we can't see it yet. Kill 2 spears and take Aarhus and 4 slaves in it. Kill 2 spears and raze Starvanger.

IBT: Vikings take back Aarhus. We lose 2 knights and 1 AC. Kill 1 cursader and 3 archers. We train our pike at barbs.

350AD: Incense is connected. WW starts. We kill 3 archers in and around Aarhus, take it back and trigger our golden age. We kill a stray archer and zerk.

I totally stretched us thin in every respect. I would take straight peace with the vikings (you can get a crappy city, but I'd prefer straight to be able to attack again soon). After that you may be able to lower lux again. We miss all infrastruture in our core. I'd build libraries and markets in all our core cities - we are in our golden age now! We should research to cavs and steam later. That is maybe all we need on this map to finish it.

We miss salpeter, we could get it from the Sumerians, but I'd prefer a peacefull GA. Beware barbs in the east.

Good luck.

Preturn: Looks good.
1
AC army about to die, send it to Nasca.
2
Redlined Berserk kills a veteran knight that was at full health. Bad RNG. Begin Heroic Epic, only takes 7 turns in the capital.
3
Turn science down to 40%. Only 1 turn less on chemistry but instead of -10 or so gpt it's about +40.
4
Bergen captured, we now have Knights Templar. Yay! Maya signs peace with Scandinavia and Spain. Spain declares on Japan.
5
Nothing
6
None
7
Zzzz...
8
Trondheim and the Great Lighthouse captured. Chemistry ==> Astronomy. Heroic Epic completed.
9
Got an MGL from an AC attacking a Viking Archer.
5in1mgl440ad.jpg

10
Put the MGL in Cuzco. Whoever's next up can decide what to do with him.

Wow, I am surprised you could continue successful warring with the bits I left you! Could you get some infra in our golden age? Can we even destroy the vikings in one go? Did you find any salpeter source?

Chemistry ==> Astronomy
I'd rather go for Metallurgy and Military Tradition. We won't need ships on this panagea and cavs would be nice.

Seems best microbe is up now and we have a decent play order again. Tim was before me, correct?

improved roster:

TimBentley - on deck
grs
viper275 - just played
microbe - up

The armies are really helpful, especially in C3C. I also built some Knights later on.

Yes, mostly Libraries and Courthouses. As mentioned in the turnlog, also grabbed the Heroic Epic.
grs said:

I think so. With the new MGL we now will have 3 armies. A few more Knights and I think that they're dead.
grs said:

I will check but I'm pretty sure there aren't any we see. Edit: Checked. Nothing.

Cavs will help us out but I wanted to get a few more Ancient Cavs. The Vikings attack with units that have fairly low defense that could be easily destroyed by the Ancient Cavalry. Having 6 health points when Elite also helps. This doesn't mean that we won't research it soon, just maybe not right now.

You are right, I didn't think about the SoZ getting obsolete with metallurgy already.

preturn:

Fix a lot of towns. Why do we have a clown in size-1 city? Why not starving size-7 city? We should have razed it by the way.

Also, why are we researching a tech that we can trade?
Persia has a lot of money so it gets Chemistry by 2517g.
Maya gets Chemistry and gives Banking+84g.
Spain gets Chemistry and gives Astronomy+10g.
25gpt to Persia for spices.
Chemistry to Korea for Monarchy+Printing Press+7gpt.

Rush a couple of markets and a bank. Rush courthouse in Andahuaylas.

Why are we building courthouse in a ring-1 city? Switch to marketplace and rush it.And building courthouse in our FP city? I switch to MDI to complete next turn.

We have a lot of empty towns, and we have to fix this - I hate to see a town empty, it's just inviting AI sneak attack. Despite that, we have 3 knights fortified in a size-1 town - why?

The MGL builds another army.

Set science to 40% and get Metallurgy in 9 turns with +14gpt with the help of a lot of scientists.

IBT Sumeria and Maya make peace. Persia demands Incense and I give to him (I wonder why I didn't trade to it?). Palace expansion.

(1)460AD:

Recall our galley. It's supposed to transport settler to the east side, not overseas.

IBT a zerk enters our territory. Bergen riots.

(2)470AD:

Persia has Democracy.

Copenhagan:
AC army drops 7hp and kills vet musket.
Vet knight 3/1 retreats from reg musket.
Vet knight 4/1 loses to musket and promotes it.
AC army 4/3 kills musket.
AC 0/3 kills spear and we capture the city. It has zero improvements.

IBT we lose MDI to barb horse!

(3)480AD:

Knight army kills musket, vet knight kills spear and we capture Molde.

IBT Vikings and Spain make peace.

(4)490AD:

Knight army captures Bodo and we get furs. Lux drops to 10%.

(5)500AD: Sumeria is up to something.

(6)510AD: ZZZ

(7)520AD: Sumeria is definitely going to attack, so I buy Navigation from it with 49gpt. Sell Wines to Persia for 242g.

(8)530AD: Hmm, maybe Sumeria is just going to attack Japan whom it's been at war with..anyway, I ask it to leave and it declares.

Flawlessly kill 8 MDI and a few longbow and archers.

I notice Japan is OCC and going to die, so out of sympathy I gift Caxamalca to it so it could stay.

I then sell Astronomy to Japan and get 4 workers+WM+24g. Sell our wines to Persia for 242g.

IBT Vet pike loses to MDI. Korea and Japan make peace.

(9)540AD: We learn Metallurgy.

Navigation+WM to Korea for silks+16g and lower lux to 0. Set sci to 100% to get Military Tradition in 4 turns with -171gpt.

I could sell Metallurgy to Persia for 2731g, but others are broke except that Spain has 16gpt to spare. I hold it for now.

Kill two more MDI.

Knight army kills EW in Erech, the saltpeter town.

IBT Palace expansion.

(10)550AD: Persia only wants to pay 2418g now for Metallurgy. Since Persia has no saltpeter, I make the deal.

Army autorazes Erech. We have a settler on the way to claim the saltpeter in a couple of turns.

And of course, we can take the last Viking city which also has saltpeter. We have an army nearby.

We have some knights in Arequipa and Kisurra unmoved.

We should slow down research after Military Tradition. Take some cities from Sumeria and launch a dogpile on Persia after the deals expire.

I have a question for the new comers:

I assume everyone knows what his (inherited) variant is. But do you also know what variant of the next person is? Sometimes certain things need to be setup to make that possible.

If you are unsure, please PM your next player and ask?

Notes: I have left military units ready to capture Stockholm and Ur. Remember to sell granaries since Ur contains the Pyramids. Military tradition can be researched in two turns. There is an army in Cuzco that can be filled.
Oh, and hopefully specialists can be fired when the Vikings are conquered, since that should eliminate WW.

Here is the save.
