UPDATE (7.19.2018) :
Cross-platform multiplayer is now available between Mac and Windows on Steam. That’s right! Download the latest update of Sid Meier’s Civilization VI and conquer together online now!

To our Linux players:

The Spring 2018 and cross-platform updates are on their way! Follow this KB for alerts when more info is added to it.

It was actually updated a week or two ago. This just removed the Red Shell malware.
