A New Dawn Beta Builds

Ordinarily, that would be true Afforess, but I work primarily in C, Perl and Assembly. ;)

Assembly is my next CPS class, in this coming fall... Oh boy!

This is because working on AND is a constant job. Once you catch a bug, it does not appear in furher versions.

I also think that RoM 2.9/AND 1.7 ends a specific period. Now, due to your and Zappara's great effort, we have a nice, bug free and balanced game to enjoy for long time.

I know that this is not over, and there will be more content and features coming for next versions. However, I think now it is time to take a long breath and just have fun for a while.

What! Are you crazy! I got loads of unbalancing and new features to do! :p

Just keep the 2.9 and 1.7 download on your hard drive, it is not going to go anywhere.

Don't worry about losing old versions, I keep copies of old versions available at request. I have old versions going all the way back to v1.351. ;) (That was my first installer edition).

The AI can be ridiculously stubborn, but it doesn't matter, because it's in your best interest to kill them off most of the time.

Yeah tell me about it... I keep telling to myself having a vassal isn't worth the diplomacy hit on other civ relations, but something about having someone at the mercy of my whims gives me that warm fuzzy feeling.

Btw, would it be possible to enable the master to cancel the vassal state agreement? That never made sense to me really, that once you have another civ willingly become a vassal or force him to capitulate, you're basically stuck with them.

Can drop the deal with World Builder of course, but my eyes always keep wandering to unexplored territories and undiscovered resources - I just can't help it. :D

I strongly second that. Once more I say, Vassal States need a complete revamp, including new similar treaties.

I third that. Then fourth myself using my sister's voice, since she totally agrees too. I'd also add my grandmother, but I don't think she's ever been doing good enough to actually get any vassals, even on Settler difficulty ;) (even though she plays more than I do :\)

I said some while ago that vassals states needed to be greatly revamped, especially seeing as you can't ever dump them.

Josef has fellow senior company now :mischief:

Issue report:

A city with coal plant or oil plant always has the unhealthy points from these buildings, even they were replaced by more clean plants like hydro plant or the three Three Gorges Dam.

I remember this issue was reported sometime ago, but that's still there.

Want a little puzzle? Here is a quotation:

"I think RoM 2.9 is a breath of fresh air in terms of balancing, and that with Better RoM, it's nearly 100% balanced."

Any idea who wrote this on the forum, on March, 25th, 1:23 AM? If you need a little hint, I can reveal, that his nick starts with "A"

Anyway, I just wanted to say that we got to the point when we have nice game, which can be played with pleasure, with no URGENT need of improvement. :hatsoff:

On the other hand, there will be always sth we can add/change. You know my attitude towards new buildings, but some ideas I see on the forum (i.e. to sack the city, whoooaaaa!!) are leaving me with a constant admiration for people's creative thinking.

I do keep all the versions. But, don't get me wrong. I'm not a grumpy cavemen who complains that people use swords, instead of maces like in old good days ;) I follow the suit, and contrary to some people here I think that every next version is BETTER than old one. I just don't use options, I don't like, that is all. That is my free choice.

I will repeat once again: we got to the point when we have good, satisfactory product. If there still are people who want to improve it - great! But if all of a sudden all the work on AND would stop - I wouldn't cry. I'm just happy about what we have now.

A couple of things:

1. Do the odds mean anything? I have a 91% chance of winning and i LOST? (see attached):(

2. I see the FOG of War still isnt working, i am right next to a city and cant see the city, plus the warriors inside of it, see pics then also an after shot?:(

I have a fresh install 2.9 and the latest 1.70. No beta.

They do. They mean that you will win 91 of 100 battles. The one you experienced was one of the remaining 9..... :p

Seriously, I don't like to lose 90> battles either. But this must happen from time to time.
Sorry.

A wizard is never wrong. He says precisely what he means to.

End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it...

1.) Yeah, the odds are correct. Sid Meier Actually talked about this at GDC, I believe, and he said even if the odds are in the players favor, the players feel cheated when they lose in a fair toss. It's a misconception of probability that many people have; and a big reason why "Negative Features" (aka Dark Ages, Diseases) will never work; players will feel cheated, even when the odds are in their favor, and the random numbers are fair.

2.) I seriously need to debug that... The Fog of War system in Civ4 is needlessly complex (from a programming perspective) IMHO, and hard to work with.

suck it up man, it basically says you have 9/10 chance to win not 10/10

Another really stupid question: When can we expect to be able to play a game with a Gigantic map on Marathon speed or higher without it being a marathon wait between turns?
