A New Dawn Beta Builds

done.
The first time ever that I could play AND with the Giant map until future tech w/o permanent crash.

However, I played w/o activation of several good features and w/o space race:
- no Barbars
- no no Vasals
- no Barbarian world
- no Barbarian Civs
- no Guilds
- no advanced corporations

In so far it is same as my experience I had with old ROM before AND, and with old AND.

Revolutions gives some errors, but it is playable with revolutions nevertheless The crashs (application crash dll) come under two conditions:
- showing of too much units along with too much change of visual angel of the world, which regulary is if you have set "shown enemy moves" and then after research of Great War hundret of barbarians explose allover the world, and the view of the wolrd changes a lot in one AI operation. (If also set "show friendly moves" then the crash comes much more earlier).

Same problem is if too much buildings or too much units are ready at same turn. Then lot of city views and/or changes of wolrd views come while AI is doing the AI controlled activities at beginning of a turn, or if I clicked too much different locations around the world.

As the features with Barbarians let rise the abudance of such change of views dramatically, it crashes, and if just at that turn also are lot of ready buildings or build units which also aggravate that, it can be that the crash comes before the AI opeations are finished, or when the first leader dialogue pops up, and the game gets unplayable by this.

It has no direct relation to amount of RAM or Video Ram (game did never need more than 2.3 GB ram + video), both determine only, if the crash comes earlier or later, and what map size is possible in general.

My programming skins are too little to analyse the dll error well.

So play Barbarian and not see any of friendly or enemy moves? Maybe worth to test.

Glad to see you could continue. I have not used 5 of of your list for a long time with AND. So that is why I can usually finish a game of it. I also do not use REV.

It's nearing the end of semester for Afforess and I would hazard a guess that no update to AND will come untill after the semester at college is over.

and another bugs found and forgot to notice:
- when growing new forest in early game, it is *often*Jungle instead Forest also in regions where no Jungle has to be, and also on fields, where is a development already within a city area.
- had on 3 hills gold as resource and within city area, but after buld a mine there I had no gold as resource listed. (affected i.e. Shwedagon Pagode, has double building speed if gold as resource)

The gold might be due to a bug with coinage that consumes the gold, even if you switch from coinage to something else later.

v.570.

First - this is the most stable version I've played in a while. So nice job all!

A couple of quick bug reports:
- Experienced the invisible pirate corvette bug. I jumped into world builder to see where they were and "swept" the area with several ships, but no one could see them. Particularly nasty bug.

- Inflation is a problem on game speed epic. It had grown to 600% by middle ages even with civics that were supposed to be reducing inflation.

- I experienced a weird bug a few times where I had fighters on a carrier attacking a city. I think one of the fighters "withdrew from combat" which caused my carrier to move it's max movement (11 I think) away to withdraw.

two more bugs:

- Arcology / Shields on a city being on a mountain do not shown

- National shield does not show shields on mounain cities and just not on that city there the wonder is done.

- Eden Project did not upgrade fields outside my controlled area, and not all desert fields within my controlled area . (as I remember, in fomver version it worked fine for allover the world)

- destroy buildings or abadone a city does not work

Inflation:

there are some extra threads to it, looks like a calculation bug..
So far I see, the most buggy thing is the 'inflation by hurry building' what was caising more than 1000% for me, the game got unplayable after that, because my loss/turn got up to 50,000 while I had 10,000 income. Change of government to despotic was no solution.

Because that, in the .inis I set inflation flags to 0 (not perfect solution, but I can't be bothered to test all values until I find one which is balanced well. So the disadvantages with "0" are better acceptable than the stupid exploding.

Hi peoples!

Haven't been keeping up on current events for a while. Can anyone be so kind as to link me the current most stable patch/version of AND2?

Thank you

Seems last beta build has few bugs that should be solved before AND could be played without problems. Some of them are corrected in SVN update, but I would very much appriciate full installation.
So my question is there new beta build coming soon?

thx

I'm currently trialling the Beta build Beta 3.

I was able to play for 6 hr's without a crash to desktop, the 1st time.

Since then, I've gone to war and taken out 2 Civs completely, just starting on a 3rd. Now I get constant crashes to desktop, I've updated the video driver to the most recent version, so I'm sure its not that. Crashes seem to be random in nature.

It may be the map size, I'm playing a huge map. If if does happen, it will repeat 2 or 3 times till it gets past the event. Resolution is set to the default for the Monitor and graphics card.

I'll start another game with a large map, and see if this makes a difference.

The crashes are caused by a grafic failure in BtS:
- too much picture moves instantly (i.e. you have "show enemy moves" on, or too much popups or fast scrolling over the map).
The size of the map itself is not causig a crash, as long as you have enough memory and video ram. But as on a bigger map also are more units and other causing fast change of view often, the probability is higher than with a smalle rmap.
The effect you may see when you open the world builder several times and scroll over the world often. Then it crashes.

What helps is:
- save often, restart oftem
- set not "show friendly moves" and "show enemy moves"
- don't scroll fast over the map often
- when you do multiple upgrades or buldings, set an final order for all to switch to (i.e.) research, so that not comes a city window after building is finished for all at same time.
- when you do a multiple upgrade for lot of units, try to have they on same place, so that you don't get too much different views from world with their finish notification.
- when you do a great war, save often so that you can reload after a crash.

you should be able to play fine with a huge map and 32 civs if you have minimum 512 video ram and ~3GB free memory (search by google for 3 GB switch for XP)

heh heh heh....

Hmm your quite correct Dreifels, it is a Graphics problem.

I've played BEFORE on a huge map, but....BIG BUT... I had the graphics TURNED down to 1024 x 768. Ahh I say's but I'm playing at 1680x 1050 my default monitor resolution, it's 50% greater in...... should........OOOHHHH!!!!!!!!!

Errr crash..

Yes, its only...ONLY!!!! ~1000 AD and its crashing.

Solution:- Drop the graphics level down to 1074x768. Arrrgghhhh, now I'm going to miss all those lovely graphics, movies for wonders and SHARPNESS of game...OMfff'nG its like having a new mod. Has this ever opened my eye's to the games potential.

Great mod, Mark this as solved. (thought about it overnight and yes....been there done that.)

On bugs, I confirm the :-

Cntl-A Abandon cities not being enabled.
Cntl-X Dot map hiding isn't enabled. Alt-x is to produce them.

Early Hypothesis, Cntl-? single letter has been disabled, or I've just found the only 2.

To sum up I repeat, its the graphics level, FRED. Its the graphics level...

such I don't call "solution"
I play it with 1600x900 on giant map, 32 bit, no anmations, etc., no friendly and no enemy moves shown, now with barbarians and revolution, being at turn 973 currently and no crash if I watch my own words: save very often (sometimes, i.e. if I have a war, several times in same turn) and no multiple upgrades and/or moving over world, or other that gives at same turn mass op popups.
If it crashes nevertheless, I can continue fine after load my last sav.

Where to find this beta 3 build?

Is the latest SVN build, which is more stable than beta 2.
:scan:
there is no version notice and history, so it is a suspect release, and I cannot see in any ways that this should be "more stabile" (stupid catchword always used if no concrete information is available)

A general censure:

Notes now several times that AI controlled factions
- do not send workers to repair destroyed enhacemets. I.e.: in a war the fields around an enemy city got pludered. After end of war the AI never (until end of game) sent workers to repair the fields (mines, farms, roads, etc) so that the city in case never could grow again.
- AI builds stupid wonders instead develop a controlled faction's city: i.e. AI started to build the Enzyclopedia (150 turns) instead useful units or buildings. (same faction as above)

I think this is a Mod thing of weighting that AI prefers to run for the "World" projects instead first try to develop the city and fireds around.

So where are the modules?

Anyone?
