A New Dawn Beta Builds

Sid Meir should give you a damn job! You've mad Civ4 better than it ever has been for me!

Right!
We should start a petition for a 2-turn revolution, installing a democracy in Sidzistan, with Afforess as President. He then will insistingly suggest to the steaming Big Brother to employ all of us a official beta testers and pay us dearly- ;-)

Yeah, I just watched a 4x1,5h film about the french revolution, you know?

Thankyou Afforess so much for making this mod/modmod!!!

I have been trying out a few mods as I'm kind of bored of civ4, and this mod is AWESOME! By far the best I've tried, and to be honest, its WAY better than the original game! Most mods I've tried have bogged my system down and slowed it, this runs just as fast as Vanilla!

I wasn't sure when installing this so I installed the 2.92 version of RoM, so have had to use the betas (Im in New Zealand so takes forever to download the older version of RoM!). They have been great. Got the CTD on the beta 7 build, and stoked that you have already put out an 8! Can't wait to get home to try it.

I've hooked me laptop up to my 1080p LCD and have been loving some big screen A New Dawn from bed! hahahha!

Sorry if this isn't the right thread to post in, but love your work, thanks so much for doing it, and for updating these betas to fix bugs as they happen.

I'm really glad you are enjoying it; I've put a lot of time and effort into it.

You know why you don't like the lower levels? It's because you see the patterns for victory and you religiously follow them. To the point that it Kills the fun. You just said so yourself "cheats=on" for Noble.

Instead of playing the patterns try the less traveled road. Sure you'll get caught off guard and may have to struggle or even lose a city or 2. But heck maybe you can squeeze in that happy building before that nasty AI stack arrives and get that 1 more unit built just in time, or not and get caught with your pants down. But so what! Can you recover? Sure if you follow the "pattern". But what if you don't?

Your actually stuck in a rut of familiarity. Get out of the Box! Try a different approach, a way you've not traveled before.

But of course I speak of whim and whimsy of which you are not familiar. :( You only know "logic" and it's companion "analysis". I don't know if you will ever have "Fun" with this game or it's opposite angst.

I wish you well, but your "path" isn't fun.

JosEPh :(
i actually never play a fixed strategy nor have any specific tech plan. i don't have the time to remember all the thousands of different buildings and which boni they give so align my research to special techs. instead when the science adviser asks me what to research next i check what the tech give me and what i could currently need. often i have to look them up in the civipedia to decide.

i've played as a warmonger sometimes when i had a nasty neighbor, i've tried to get most wonders in another game where i got a nice and isolated starting position and i've played games where i found a religions just as i've played games where i didn't. i've tied to build my civilizations in such a way that i could utilize every civic through my games (i remember that i was the only one who used slavery before Afforess changed it and stated that it was overpowered... (just need to know how to use it)). i've started games in fertile grasslands, jungles and the tundra. played form a small island start and large continents. i've played with and without most mod options to see how they actually affect the game. actually i've played very differently under very dissimilar conditions through my games and i was definitively not following any predefined scheme.

however there were always certain things i don't do because they are harmful: building more military or cities then i can pay the upkeep. building buildings that don't give me anything useful (e.g. happiness buildings in a total happy city). well... admittedly i've done the mistake of overexpansion myself at the beginning of playing Civ4 because i was used to this play style form the earlier Civ games which made it obligatory. so i've even played the way you seem to do and know how it feels like.

summarizing there is not much i haven't tried in civ and i had my fun with it.

but it seems that it is you who sticks to a certain strategy since you always run into the same problem with research rate - namely excessive over-expansion. maybe it became a habit which you don't even realize. however you seem resistant in taking advise that certain things just don't go well in the game and constantly refuse to TRY otherwise.

I kind of "wing" civ, and just research techs/build what I think/feel I need rather than using strats. That said...I do get stuck on anything above noble, and the auto difficulty adjustment seems to destroy me (so I often turn that off and manually set noble)!

You may want to consider removing this event because it is simply no-brainer to choose the one I am pointing at. The other choice just have 25% increase in inflation but no bonus to balance it out at all. My opinion that it is sidelining too close to ideological imposition on a player :).

I upped the gold for the Federal reserve to 500-2000 random cost. Fair?

Wait, can you explain what Inflation really mean in this game? Did I misunderstand that the higher inflation, it is automatically bad for me? Or is there some hidden benefits for me if I had chosen the second option?

The 2nd option (unless the XML is wrong) is -25% inflation, but costs 200 gold.

Also, could you explain how the Advanced Economy option has changed inflation?

Oh, I see. Those tiny signs (+) and (-). My mistake. Oh well. But, yeah, 200 gold as a price for 25% less inflation is weak so your solution seem good. But be sure to check the event's tech prereq. Don't want to disappoint anyone else who may be hit with this event and not even have enough money .

The game stalls then a civ is building the oracle. at least its what I happens in my game. see attachment. I play beta 8.

Its happens when I end the turn. the "waiting for other civs" are flashing but nothing happens. I have seen this before earlier betas. I think it beta 6. maybe 5 also. but im not sure.

Wheat is too rare. In my current game (gigantic), there is only one wheat in whole world.

Tundra/Desert Promotions are still broken.

I tried the terrain damage option with last beta8 (svn 232).

I had units with artic combat promotion, still getting the 15%/turn damages.

Is that option working as intended ?

Horses are the rarest in my games. I have played 5 separate maps with planet generator 0.68 (I think its called) and only in 3 of those 5 games were there any horses on the whole planet. I have yet to see more than two horse tiles in a single world. Standard map size. Any one else noticed a lack of horses or did I just get a bum 5 games?

RoM has too many resources, so you will always have games where there simply aren't enough of a specific type of resource.

In my Animal Placement, in NWA coming out soon i am adding were you place certain resources yourself ie: Horse/Sheep/Cow/Pig/Deer/Fur/Ivory

Also working on other resources in a different modmod.

Right here's a big problem i've been having with b8, at SOME point in my games, the turn will never calculate for the AI.

I can leave the game for 24 hours and the turn will not have calculated. I've not noticed any patterns with when this occurs, but it happens every time i try and play.
