A New Dawn on Earth and the Space Adventure

Hi Civvers!

Good news! The problem wasn't the mod! I have the steam version of Civilization IV. And I did not know that was necessary to use the option "original release" on steam platform.

So, I did a test on two notebooks with the mentioned option and, "the magic occurred": I could to play some turns with everything running ok!!!:D (admin password too)

Some Considerations:

1. Imp. Knodel's findings:
Spoiler :
So I've played a short test game to see how exactly the BUG menu affects the gameplay. It seems that while the REVDCM tab acts like in LoR, that is everything hardcoded to default options in multiplayer, two other tabs containing settings that affect all players aren't like that. Some of these settings can apparently be changed by every single player during their turn and even affect others, while some can only be changed by the host and are locked for all other players.

This leads me to two possible conclusions:

1. The developers of this mod couldn't care less about Multiplayer and know even less about PBEM.

or

2. The developers did think this through thoroughly and all these seemingly chaotic options make some sense that I just have been unable to discern.

There's no need to test for the combat effects feature as that option is preset for MP in the REVDCM tab so we wouldn't be able to change it even if we wanted to unless we create a new minimod just for this game.

2. Ruff_hi's clarification:
Spoiler :
As one of the developers of the BUG mod, I can say with certainty that the mod was designed for SP games. Some minor consideration was given to MP games to the extent that the suggestion was not to use BUG for MP ... or if you have to ... set the options to the same (honour system!).

In the end, BUG (BtS Unaltered Gameplay) was aiming at unaltered game play so having different options set for MP wouldn't change the game play ... just the level of information flowing to the player(s).

So, we will lose part of the fun, but still, this pbem will be a very exciting game!!!

Below, a link with the necessary procedure for the option "original release" on the steam platform:

It is recommended reinstall the mod after that!

That is excellent news. Do we have another save that the players can test?

...

wat.

...

For the record, I am not using the Steam version, and would recommend the same to everybody else.

Our PBEM is alive!!!

The problem was the incorrect configuration of steam platform.

Who, like me, have the steam version of the game, must proceed as described above.

Our test game will start with the save below:

Please, test it and notify me with the informations to complete the table.

Dei Civita, could you reinstall the mod and to test again?

I played normally with two notebooks.

Is it possible that the problem is being caused by incompatibilities between saved files of steam version and saved files of non steam versions?

Can someone create a pbem with the mod and send it to us? We need verify if the problem only occurs on files created on my notebooks.

Are you using the 1.75C version? I got the same errors, and when I try to play the file it tries to open on the regular DOM mod, not on the 1.75C folder version. I tried renaming the 1.75C folder as just "Rise of Mankind - A New Dawn" and then loading it, but again it didn't work.

Nighthawk, can you generate a pbem with the mod and send it to me now?

Here is a test PBEM file using the 1.75C version per the opening instructions. I do not have Steam at all with my BTS.

The same problem that you.

I was using the name "Rise of Mankind - a New Dawn" and the game shows the message that you mentioned. I changed the name to "Rise of Mankind - a New Dawn V1.75C", and the file was opened but with the message protected assets error.

I can't understand why it is being so hard!

Its got to be some sort of version issue with the 1.75C setup. Unless we all download from the same spot and do the exact same steps of copying/pasting it probably won't work.

I'd suggest doing a startover - put a whole post with exact detailed download and installation instructions, including screenshots, have everyone do the same thing, and then start a test game. If that doesnt work, I dont know what to tell you - I'm not the most IT proficient guy around these parts.

I would also suggest installing the mod under a simple folder ... say 'RoMPBEM' and only using letters from the alphabet (ie ABC ... XYZ upper or lower) in the game's name (ie no '^%&()' etc).

Well, I've tried both new save files, and I'm getting either a protected assets error (Phylhom's test file) or a complete mod path mess (Nighthawk's test file), which is the same issue I've found with the first test file.

I'd be willing to give it a try. The thing is: at least for me, sometimes it seems to be trying to load the mod on some sort of default path, althought it doesn't show the whole path it says the mod wasn't found (even when I'm already running the mod and only then try to run the save file). I don't think I'm willing to change the whole BtS installation path just to run this. Btw, the mod runs single player save files without any path issues at all.

I'm also not running the game on steam, just to clarify it.

[after edit:]

Well, right afer posting this, I tried changing the mod folder name to put an extra "V1.75C" after the mod name. So the files that were failing to find the mod now give me a "protected assets" message, and vice-versa (even my previously singleplayer save file isn't loading anymore). I guess the protected assets are more related to some configuration setting than file path discrepancies. Anyway, it seems clear to me now that the mod folder name has to be exactly the same to everyone, but I'm skeptical that this will releave us from the "protected assets".

Any ideas?

I can't even get the mod to load now. Guess you should count me out of this game at present.

Ok, guys! This will be our last trying.

I reinstalled the mod again on my two notebooks, I created a pbem with the mod and I played successive turns on both notebooks. Everything went ok.

So, let's to try this procedure (everyone must to do the same, exactly as described):

1- Steam users must configure the original release option on steam platform. To do this, follow the steps on the link (If you aren't a steam user, go to the next step):

2- Delete the files "Civilization IV.ini" and "Civilization IV.ini.bak" in the folder "C:\Users\...\Documents\My Games\beyond the sword".

3- Delete any folder related to "Rise of Mankind - A New Dawn" in:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Mods, or

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization IV Beyond the Sword\Beyond the Sword\Mods", or

"C:\Users\...\Documents\My Games\beyond the sword\MODS"

4- Download the file "Rise of Mankind - A New Dawn 1.76.zip" on the link:

5- Extract the mentioned zipped file to the folder:

"C:\Users\...\Downloads"

The result will be a folder named as "Rise of Mankind - A New Dawn 1.76". Don't do anything with it or your subfolders or files!

6- Move the folder "Rise of Mankind - A New Dawn 1.76" to:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Mods, or

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization IV Beyond the Sword\Beyond the Sword\Mods"

Atention!!! Don't do it to the folder "C:\Users\...\Documents\My Games\beyond the sword\MODS"

Again, don't do anything with the folder "Rise of Mankind - A New Dawn 1.76" or your subfolders or files! It already contain all the needed files and upgrades!

7- Load the Mod and try to open the file:

8- Notify me if the game runs ok.

If you are asking yourself why the mod's folder name is ending with 1.76, it is because, searching for a solution, I found the 1.76 patch version. I suppose it is better and more stable than 1.75C version.

Sorry guys, I discovered some issues in this last version too, so I quit!

Thanks for your attention and dedication!

Hope to play some pbem games with all of you!

Here, a link of A New Dawn project, under development:

I will continue to play the mod (my favourite), but on single player mode.

Perhaps, we can to play this mod again on multiplayer mode in the future, when it become more stable.
