A New Name

Civ mcCivface!

I think a name should tell people that this mod was made with the help of community, as current name does. A few suggestions:

1. The One (Mod) [the community is One]
2. United Nations (might be confusing or might be good, who knows. Refers to civs, World Congress and finally our different nationalities)

No reference to community, but still cool:
3. New World (and no, this does not mean the USA)
4. The Test of Time (I'm proud of this, you know why this is here ;))

A name that would sound good and also is a bit descriptive towards the mod would be ideal, I think. My suggestions:

  • Balance of Power
  • Clash of Cultures (Enhanced)
  • Strive for Supremacy

Just to be sure ; are we only looking for a new name for CBP or also for CP ?

I think we should try to keep the acronym for simplicity so people don't get confused. I totally agree the community patch needs a better snappier name.

CiV: A Better Path (C:BP) ?

Also:

  • Balance of Power

I like it. Has the word balance in it, and retains C:BP. This is my favourite so far, and a bit more exciting than mine.

CBP - Considerably Better Programmed (but then I may be a little bit biased!)

Civ 5: Ultimate Evolution Project (for the whole thing)
Civ 5: Ultimate Evolution Mod (for CBP)
Civ 5: Ultimately Evolved Vanilla (for CPP)

Would be abbreviated UEP, UEM and UEV, which isn't used yet afaik.

People would understand it on a glance, it's very descriptive but still sounds flashy and catches attention.

I prefer a descriptive name over something more abstract for a simple reason:
A player who's new to Civ modding usually just googles for "Civ 5 mods". If one of the first hits is "Ultimate Evolution Project", he knows what he has to expect and we sure have his attention.
And I really prefer this mod to have a large community, it's what guarantees that it stays alive for years.

Some may find the name too bold, but this is after all the biggest and most ambitious modpack for Civ5 that ever existed.

Suggestions: (All beginning with Civ 5-)
Complete Balance Edition
Sid Meyer Mode
Great Nations Mode
Reconfigured
Championship Edition
Core Balance Plus
Advanced Challengers
Revitalized
Deity's Hold
Wonders of the Renowned
Actual Future Tech
Arena of Heroes
Glory and Honor

I also like the "Master's Edition" as someone suggested before.

Calling it an 'Edition' seems a bit insincere. The CBP is significantly larger than a mere edition.

But obviously the CPP should be renamed as the Communitas Pontificatus Resarcio :D

I just realized I could have used my 2000th post for this occasion, but I wasted it on a silly donkey ressource proposal :crazyeye: That's me...

Well consider that there are far more important numbers than 2000, like Pi. So in the end it wouldn't be a waste at all. Imagine if your donkey comment was made on your "Pi'th" post, that would be, dramatic really :mischief:.

For me, the combination of the words Ultimate and evolution doesn't sound right, because one is a process and the other is a result. My variations for your suggestions would be:
  • Civ 5: Ultimate Community Project (for the whole thing)
  • Civ 5: Ultimate Balance Enhancement (for CBP)
  • Civ 5: Ultimate Vanilla Experience (for CPP)

So UCP, UBE and UVE for the abbreviations.

How about "Just Fantastically Done", which would be JF ... oh hang on

Hmmm, just was wondering what JFD stands for... Apparently my wondering is over :mischief:.

Well good luck choosing one, G.

Personally I think this is as significant (if not more so) as any expansion this game received. The name should be in the vein of the other civ expansion names.

Arguments about Latin aside (who are these plebeians?), I think Vox Populi is bang on the money. Terra Incognita is a sick phrase, but I don't think it really represents CPP.

I agree with Funak this is an overhaul mod. But I also felt intrigued by the Balance thing, for I was too annoyed with imbalancing in vanilla.
Corporations may be a thing in this mod, but I barely see them in my plays. New buildings, coherent military units, promotions based on roles, diplomats, soo diferent religions, a completely different happiness system, better distributed wonders, useful later explorers, more luxuries, interaction between plot improvements, more agressive and oportunistic ai, bonus for trade route completion, for expansion, for killings, influece coming and going, CS quests, spies special actions. And, yeah, civ iv diplomacy (not a big fan). Also, not obvious easy choices for techs order, culture/science focus, army composition... less tricky things like farming xp from CS without consequences. A care for balance on everything: resources, civ abilities, alternative paths, ...

Well, that sounds like a complete overhaul.

oh, for brainstorming names, yes.

Citizens Bold Project
Civilization Becomes Public
Civi Burst of Population

well, staying with the acronym doesn't give many options. How about?

Civ 5: Next Generation
Civ 5: Modders Revenge (not serious)
Civ 5: Strategist Paradise

Maybe Gazebo should make a shortlist of the names he finds appropriate and make a poll for it. :dunno:
