A New Name

Let's try to keep this focused.

Vote on the category you want for the name (let's make it 2 votes per person for now):

  1. Descriptive Name (ex: Community Overhaul Project, Community Balance Patch etc)
  2. Marketing Name (ex: Ultimate Civilization 5, Civ 5 Evolution, Civ 5 Beyond, Civ 5 Enhanced, etc)
  3. Latin Name (ex: Vox Populi, Terra Incognita, Aera Nova)
  4. Expansion Name (ex: Rise of Nations, Call to Arms, Balance of Power)
  5. Humorous Name (ex: Patchy McPatch, CPABCIMG: Community Patch And By Community I mean Gazebo, etc)

I vote on 2 and 3.

Descriptive Name (ex: Community Overhaul Project, Community Balance Patch etc)

1 and 2. It should be obvious it is a mod and what it generally does. Caveman2Cosmos is a valid example of such a name.
IMO Latin names sound too pretentious and are more fitting to fantasy-themed games anyway.

I don't think you can limit votes to 2 on strawpolls, it's either 1 vote or a checklist thing as far as I know.

But why limit it to two votes?

Personally I'm fine with anything that isn't 3 or 5.

Depending on what a Marketing name means I guess I could dislike that as well, is it limited to those "new and improved" "Bigger better stronger" names?

Is it not too late to change the name? It will only create more confusion.

Not really, Communitas was the change made to GEM which in turn was VEM.
People get on board really quickly with these things, all that ultimately matters is the mods get installed and the forum remains intact. Both of those things won't be adversely affected.

Changing the name is for the better. I think literally every stream or youtube video I have seen of this mod, the person using it had trouble remembering the name, and resorted to saying something like "the community patch thingy or whatever". People don't tend to remember overly descriptive or technical names.

That's probably partially because the confusing naming situation with CP CBP and CPP.

I've been using this mod from the first day Gazebo posted an update for Thal's patch, and I still get confused about the difference between CP, CBP and CPP, so I have no idea how new players work it out.

Isn't Caveman2Cosmos more of an expansion name? (I.e. category 4).

I vote for 4) expansion name.

I see cpp as a new expansion: balance older things, correct bugs & new systems (diplomacy, corporation). Some new units, some new techs.
It's the BtS of civ 5 (especially with event&decision).
