A Plague Animation replacement per chance?

Has anyone modded the Plague animation? Plague and disease are significant killers of troops and populations in history, worth including in a scenario for realism. But, you know, those circling vultures can get a bit annoying. So a new graphic would be nice. Anyone know if some have been made, or does anyone want to have a go at one?
 
A glance through the Civ folders suggests to me that this ought to be perfectly possible, although I don't believe anyone has tried it. What sort of alternative animation do you think could replace it?
 
That's encouraging to read. I'm not inclined to dictate anything. It could be fun coming up with an idea. I did think of the following, but as always, I'm not sure what the implementation would require. Called this my two gold coins for the boatman:

- Perhaps some gravestones going up around the city, similar to King Arthur's pollution in Going Viking (and in others)?
- Smoking funeral pyres?
- Spirits drifting up out of the city?
- Some kind of pollutionesque graphic, perhaps static?
- A cart with corpses on it (with a sound effect from the Holy Grail going "bring out yer dead").

That kind of thing. But it could be fun to knock about some ideas.
 
Or maybe the specter of death standing above the city (sorta like in Europa 1400) with his rags moving slowly in the wind. Though it would probably be more suited for all those fantasy mods. :)
 
I like the funeral pyres and spirits idea. Weren't there some sort of tiny bells sounding in reference to plague carts?
 
I suppose I could make a hack job of it and simply remove the birds (leaving the skull as more than adequate indication something is amiss with the city), but it would be preferable if someone capable of animation above the smiley level did a proper, but less distracting, animation.

Edit: Actually, it seems I cannot - it's treated ingame as a unit graphic(!), and for whatever reason, I can't seem to get the game to accept flc files from AnimationShop as unit flcs. (They work perfectly as LH flcs.)
 
How about loading bodies on to a cart like in Cesar III.
 
I tend to agree with TLC - keep the skull and free the birds. If that's not possible perhaps the animation can be slowed down so that the birds are no longer circling at Mach One.:confused:

Any new animation should avoid being distracting which is the problem with the present graphic. :crazyeye: For that reason I like Heretic Cata's slowly moving spirit. Iron Beagle's glowing biohazard symbol would be good for a modern/futuristic scenario.
 
Plague, no birds. Only skull.

It looks exactly like the original, except the birds are dead. (no birds)
 
Hey nice job there Blue. Quick work too! I'll be using this for sure and I hope many other versions of the plague animation can be created for other purposes.
