A proposal for ideology names

So I'm also a little late, but generally I think the names are fine, I'd rather keep them the same simply for accessibility. Like Gazebo said, he renamed branches like Aesthetics and Piety to reflect their new direction; since the ideologies have largely kept theirs, it's easier for someone unfamiliar with VP to understand what they're good for. With that said, since Autocracy was given a stronger focus toward cultural and vassal dominance rather than outright conquering, I would support changing the name to correspond with that (Dominance), but otherwise it should probably be left to modmods.

Come on guys & girls, there are many terms and ideas that are used in the game franchise that have negative and positive concepts. Also there was a big uproar about religion in Civ 4. Remember

Terms are not bad, but the actions of people are.

If I had to pick I'd rather see Autocracy renamed to Dominance purely due to having a closer number of syllables in the name as apposed to Might. Dominance also just sounds better to me since I see the Autocracy tree being focused on the rule of force rather then the "One World, One Ruler" approach its name seems to apply.

I'll also agree that Autocracy is the odd ideology out by not having a Ideological name like Freedom and Order.

Don't have a big political history rant to back it up but I think "Freedom, Order, and Dominance" sounds better to me and suits the spirits of the Ideologies. Because when you get down to it aren't ALL the civs in the game technically Autocracies being led by immortal rulers who's word is law?

Yup, I'm not a native English speaker so I don't get the intuition of which term sounds best, that's why I initially suggested Might but frankly between that and Dominance I'd be equally happy.

I do believe a vote would lay the issue to rest one way or another.

On a related note: I also vote we change the Artistry tree name back to Aesthetics but that may just be me.

I don't care much about history, nor the current discussion about it. But my impression from being surprised with the former name changes were very positive:

The game felt "fresh and new" due to these simple changes and thus I liked it a lot. I'm therefore positive towards changing "Authority" (oops, I mean "Autocracy") to whatever you see fit, and negative towards going back to good old "Aesthetics".

But there might people who really care about what specific name to go with. I made the poll. I made options for each ideology and allowed a max of 3 choices (7 choices in total):

1. Keep as is
2. Freedom -> Liberty
3. Order -> Equality
4. Autocracy -> Might/Pride/Unity/Other
5. Call it like it is (Liberalism, Communism, Fascism)
6. I don't care

I like that the names don't refer to real-world ideologies with total specificity (i.e. liberalism, communism, fascism). After all, there are presumably many possible ideologies out there that do not fit with the real (or realised) ones.

I actually like the name autocracy the best of the three, as it literally means self-rule, which fits with its mechanical themes of being a good choice when you have many enemies and/or you want to go in a certain direction without worrying too much about external political pressure.

I think current names are the best. Maybe Change Autocracy to Nazism and Order to Communism, but I don't think ppl will like this idea. So leave it unchanged.
