In case anyone wants to follow the game from a point of view other then Feaurius':
And even some pictures for the lurkers only.
Spoiler for the first 10 turns (lurkers only) :3950 BC First 2 surprises of the games: we start with 2 workers and 2 settlers, and the year is not 4000 BC. I have incense nearby, and I can see a 4-turn settler factory from the start location once the game forest is chopped and irrigated, but I am disappointed not to be on a coast (I cant build curraghs yet) and the lack of a river is troubling. With only a 1-tile lake nearby, my capital will be the only place helped by my agricultural trait until Republic, and I will be hurting for commerce. I must find a river!
Salamanca settled on the spot and starts a warrior. One worker goes north to the BG, the other SW to the game forest. There doesnt seem to be any reason to favor a particular direction with the other settler, so he climbs the mountain to see what is around. Research set to the Wheel at 100%.
3900 BC The settler pops the goody hut, and we learn Ceremonial Burial. We see ivory but no river.
3800 BC The town of Geriatica founded by the ivory and starts warrior. The Persians and the Egyptians have also settled a second town but not the Americans. Thanks to a mistimed forest chop, I build a 20-shield warrior in Salamanca.
3750 BC My warrior from Salamanca completes, and I start a granary. The Americans still have not settled a second town.
3650 BC Salamanca is the first town to reach size 2. Although the game says this is regent level, I only get 1 content citizen, so my luxuries have to increase. Science is going to be very slow for me with the lack of commerce in my start.
3550 BC Geriatica completes a warrior and starts a worker. The Americans finally planted their second town.
3500 BC Still nobody else has 2 citizens in their capital. They either do not have high-food tiles or have elected not to work them. Possibly everyone started with a game forest, and others have elected to keep it as is for the extra shields instead of chopping and irrigating. I am feeling great about my expansion chances with a 4-turn settler factory especially if everyone elses capital is only growing once every 10 turns. I have found 2 cows, but I am really disappointed by the lack of rivers in my area my agricultural trait will not give any advantage except in the capital until Republic. I am also concerned about falling behind in science the lack of nearby commerce is troubling, but I hope to be able to keep up by planting lots of cities and make up for the lack of quality with quantity. I will just have to be sure other towns build enough military, but with my science so weak, it will be a while before they can build good military.
