Television Series Pitch #19
Name: The Plot Ages
Description: *stupidly dramatic music* For millennia, the Champions of the Storyline kept peace in Plotlandia; that all changed, however, when the Legions of Chaos discovered the mythical Sword of Plot Derailment. Using this awe-inspiring weapon, the Legions managed to eradicate the Champions of the Storyline & severely distort the overall narrative & continuity of Plotlandia. Heroes lived normal lives, with nary a tragic past in sight; romantic subplots went unfinished & unfulfilled, and every ending was a Gainax Ending. *ridiculous music ends*

The Plot Ages is an irreverent animated comedy that follows a collection of misfits and imbeciles as they attempt to locate the Sword of Plot Advancement. Along the way, they repeatedly stab each other in back, tear the fourth wall to shreds, and are generally as big an obstacle to themselves as their enemies are. 30 minutes, B acting, Ensemble (7 stars [Inactive/Dead characters not counted as stars; sorry, Megs & Kaiser]), Excellent Quality, Improvisation (Directing if is this is a no-go).

More shows:

Name: Huey's News
Genre: Historical/Military Comedy
Length: 30 minutes
Acting: 3 B (300K)
Focus: Script
Staff: Good (200K)

Description: Vietnam. 1969. The Power of Love is dead; only the firepower of the Huey helicopter is left. The show follows the daily routine of pilot Jack Roberts, co-pilot Will Dewey (comlete with a "Will do-ey" as his catchphrase when told to do something), and gunner Edward Conrad as they get in hijinks giving air support to ground troops, scout out NVA positions, and perform search and rescue missions. The show is known for its extremely dark sense of humor (jokes about agent orange, napalm, and the divisive anti-war movement are rampart) and for the brutalitility in which extras are executed with. Basically MASH if it was Vietnam and a lot darker.

Name: Plan Z
Genre: Zombie-based Post Apolycalptic Drama
Length: 60 Minutes
Acting: 2 A (1.6 M)
Focus: Costumes/Makeup (for the zombies)
Staff: Good (400K)

Description: In Washington DC, the rampaging horde of zombies have overflooded the nation's capital. However, in a deep bunker within the White House, the American government, lead by president Jennifer Winters, attempt to hatch a plan in order to retake the city and bring hope back to the American people. Meanwhile, the first man is dead, and Winters finds herself attracted in a scandalous relationship with the young and attractive vice president, Christian Adkins.

The show would cut between the bunker (which is the primary focus) and scenes above ground as the actions chosen by the surviving government officials have their outcome played out on-screen.

Name: School's Out
Genre: Animated Children's comedic drama
Length: 30 minutes
Acting: 3 B (300K)
Focus: Animation
Staff: Excellent (700K)

In Golitah Entertainment's first foray into animated children's shows, School's Out takes place in the reclusive St. Scarlet's Boarding School, a K-6 facility of education for rich parents who hate their children. Not only will they never see their children outside of summer, but the school has a reputation of sadistic teachers who love to assert dominance over the students in any way possible, especially with corporal punishment.

When 6th grader Sophia sees her best friend Zoe wything in the ground in pain after a particularly brutal spanking, she has seen enough. Sophia decides there is only one course of action left: overthrow the administration and own the means of education. Sophia raises the black and red banner and declares war on the teachers and other faculty, attempting to drive them out of the property. Zoe later joins her in a prominen position in the rebellion, along with the cute Mark (in which both have a crush on).

The show would be serious enough that it would have a serial continuity like an adult's show and have tension and actual meaningful characterization. However, it would be littered with humorous moments to keep the children's attentions, and generally be as light hearted as the subject material of an open rebellion can be. Definitly not an allegory of how the American people need to revolt, not at all

Mercy
Genre: Crime Drama
Description: Mercy is a story of revenge and intrigue in contemporary Boston as an unknown vigilante begins a violent campaign against crime lords and corrupt officials across the city. Rather unique in switching between being shot in the silent first-person perspective of the vigilante, and that of the police officers trying to uncover his identity. Strong storylines and plot twists mean the killer's identity will not be uncovered anytime soon. Stars the young chief of police and his lead detective, with whom there is a romantic subplot, of course.

Name: New World Order
Genre: Conspiracy-based drama
Length: 60 minutes
Acting: 1 B star (200K)
Focus: Script
Staff: Good (400K)

Description: It's 2030, and humanity has entered a new dark age. The Illuminati, a secret organization ran by lizard people, have openly overthrown every government on Earth. With mind control beacons turning most of humanity into thralls, the evil lizard people have started to depopulate entire countries. Black helicopters scour the skies, searching for any resistance with neuroanalyzing technology.

In Yellowbrook, Nebraska, once such community exists. Lead by former Army 1st Lieutenant Jim Duffy, the town is fortified to the bone and coated with aluminium foil, ready for any lizard-Illuminati incursion to wipe them out. However, fears across town arise when there is an influx of black helicopters near the general location of the city. Have they finally been found out? Can they survive a lizard assault? Or will fear kill the town before the Illuminati even find them? Only time can tell.

Name: Alba Gu Bràth
Genre: Children's animated historical comedy
Length: 30 minutes
Acting: 2 B (200K)
Focus: Animation
Staff: Excellent (700K)

Description: A very fictionalized account of the Scottish Wars of Independence, the show focuses on the two figureheads of the Scottish army: impulsive, brash, but well-intentioned and brave William Wallace, and more calculated, reserved, but slightly craven Robert the Bruce. Together, they must solve internal problems of the Scottish nobility and peasantry, or thwart evil King Longshank's next scheme to conquer Scotland and incorporate it into England.

The show is intended for children, and thus any violence is slapstick. No one actually dies in the battles, but the English will always leave with serious bruises. Episodes will attempt to teach Scottish culture to American children, while also providing valuable morals. Various episodes involve Robert and Longshanks playing a game of golf, with the Scottish crown at stake (while having the latter cheat but still lose because cheating is wrong); a Scottish chef inventing the disgusting-looking haggis, before everyone discovering that they love it once they try it (don't be a picky eater); a well-intentioned noble takes his peasant's swords and bows away after an unfortunate hunting accident, only to almost have the town burned down when Longshank's army marches in, only narrowly saved by Wallace and Robert (gun control is bad, yo); and Wallace bagpipe playing skills scares an English army back to London, despite everyone but Robert previously telling him to stop playing because of how horrible he was at it (don't be discouraged by others).

Also, the theme song is an instrumental version of flower of scotland

Two shows and Goliath's first ever movie pitch:

Name: The Renaissance
Genre: Historical Drama
Length: 60 minutes
Acting: 4 A stars (3.2 Million)
Focus: Sets (Particular focus on recreating the artwork made by the Renaissance men featured in the show, along with the beautiful architecture of 1400-1500s Italy)
Staff: Excellent (1.4 M)

Description: The Renaissance is a historical drama that looks into the lives of the four major Renaissance painters/sculptors/architects: Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael. The show will be divided into two parts:

The main part of the show will focus on Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Raphael circa early 1500s (1504-1507ish). Leonardo is approaching old age and is about to die, but still is amazingly able to produce amazing works and scientific notes that could change human development if only people listened to him. Michelangelo is in the prime of his career, and, because of that, he'll be the "main character" of the four. Viewers will see the amount of drama and dedication it took as he painted the ceiling of the Sistine chapel, the construction of David, etc, etc, etc. Finally, Raphael barely an adult, is just starting his own painting career, and viewers will see how we wandered from city to city, trying to seek patronage and creating his earliest artwork. There will be attempts to get the three to interact with each other, even if indirectly. After all, it is a show, and people expect the main characters to interact.

Donatello, who was already dead before Raphael was even born, will be covered in "flashbacks", showing how he was the first one to attempt to revive classical art techniques and give a rebirth in the sphere of art. Actions Donatello does within the show will affect the other three characters, even if he will never actually meet him.

Name: SportsNation with Wayne Gretsky
Genre: Sports News
Length: 30
Acting: A+ single star (1.25)
Focus: Script
Staff: Excellent (1.4 M)

Description: SportsNation is a 30 minute show aired daily, recapping any news in the sports world (results, trades, injuries, etc, etc, etc). The show's main draw will be the host of the show, legendary hockey hall of famer Wayne Gretsky (basically the Michael Jordan of hockey for the uncivilized). As part of the deal, the show is known to have a particular bent towards hockey compared to how popular it actually is in the States, but that should definitely help ratings in the north and in Canada.

WBT Offers 3.5 million for The Renaissance.

WBT offers 6 million for 4 seasons of SportsNation.

NOTE: It is a one time sum for the seasons, NOT 6 million each season. The same goes for the 750K for 2 seasons deal that was offered to all shows last turn.

Arya, how do last season's shows work now? I assume late night shows and cartoons will keep getting new episodes, but what about reruns? Also how much money do us producers have?

What do you mean? A network can air a TV show for as long as it has the rights to the show. If that was for 1 season as most shows last turn were, that means the network has to renew the show or they cant air it and they risk another network picking it up instead. If a network no longer has the rights to a show, then they can't air it, not even reruns. That isn't to say that a network can't negotiate a deal with the producer for JUST reruns, which would naturally be cheaper.

Evening News with Bruce Deansbury and Sharon Atkinson (is evening more watched OTL than daily?)
news show
60 minutes
A acting ($1.6m)
Multi-Star (2)

60 minutes
B acting ($400k)
Multi-Star (2)
good crew ($400k)

WBT offers 3 million for 2 seasons with a 1 million bonus every season that it is the top rated news show. This goes for both programs.

What about Jade Swordsman? I thought mech had bought it. Will it be broadcasted next turn or did mech not have it in his program?

Jade Swordsman was definitely aired. See the google doc with the ratings. It had decent ratings too.

However if mech wants to air it again, he has to purchase the rights to more seasons of it from you.

I wish to note that networks finance all operations in regards to movies.

WBT wishes to make an offer for such a film. We are willing to offer the producer a 5 million up front signing bonus, in addition to 25% of box office profits, as well as 75% of DVD sales. And since OCN holds the rights to the TV series at the moment (since the movie is in the same franchise they can either make the movie or have to give permission for another network to make it) we are willing to offer them 25% of the box office sales. We hope this offer will prove satisfactory.

Amaroq
Genre: Dark Action/Fantasy
Description: Drawing upon a blend of traditional Inuit mythology and influenced by the styles of such masters of psychological horror as Stephen King, Amaroq follows the story of 23-year-old Matthew Grant, a half-white half-Inuit guide in modern Alaska (or the Yukon, in any Canadian adaptations) who is forced to fight ancient and dark powers alone in the Arctic forests to avenge the death of his fiancée at the hands of a pack of Adlet - and his own discovery of a dangerous and dark magic. 6 million for 2 seasons - WBT.

DT: Shadow of Fear

WBT inquires as to whether the rights to this show might be open for...transfer next season once its current contract runs out. If the price is right of course.

All sales to WBT are not final until 24 hours after acceptance in order to encourage PC networks to outbid it, and in fairness to the fact that it is an NPC.

Also noting that WBT still has rights to any shows sold to it last turn due to 2 season contracts.

Also, also noting that the 750K for 2 seasons deal is still open for any shows left unsold after this turn as well.

OCN already bought Renaissance and SportsNation, and gave a better offer for the former to boot.

But... 6 million for four seasons. Holy crap. Are sales final before the update? I seriously want to take that.

2 million for Alba Gu Bràth is OK, good but not great. I have interest, but for fairness I will hear PC offers. If any PC matches that offer or does better, I'll go with them because PCs>NPCs. Let the 24 Hour Countdown begin.

Just for the record, I have other shows and film ideas available that aren't posted - including most notably (at least for those who know what I've done on CFC) SaR for TV, and the Crimson trilogy and Shift series (5) for films, which particularly interested execs can feel free to contact me about. I'm just a little more focused on the above atm, and so not making a formal proposal for those yet.

That, and they cost more.

EDIT:
6 million for 2 seasons - WBT.
Also, not formally confirming on Amaroq yet, since Sone isn't checking this thread until tomorrow and Sam hasn't seen my stuff AFAIK, but if I get no better offers for it, I'm more than happy with the proposal.

Foreign Market

Are you a network with more shows than you can air? A producer with struggling shows that networks refuse to pick up, but you honestly believe could succeed?

You can now attempt to infiltrate foreign markets. Japan, Canada, and England are now open. Each network can send 2 shows into foreign markets a turn, and each producer can do the same for 1 show each. They will be given a 'rating' that doesn't equate to those used in the typical weekly schedule, however this rating WILL determine the revenue that you get back. This can be both a source of extra income as well as a place to try out untested new shows that you aren't sure will do well. Or maybe your show ran its course in america and the ratings began to dip down, however a fresh start in another country might revive its fan base.

It is what you make of it.

Stock Market

Networks and Producers can now 'go public'.

How this works is that you are assumed to be a private company right now. If you go public, then you release 1 million stock at a $40 IPO, and you then control 1 million stock yourself. Essentially you retain control of the company but gain much needed capital. You can raise the value of your shares by having standout shows, consistent ratings, have movies do well, etc. You can also sell off some of your majority share, but be careful, as when takeovers are added later you could potentially lose the rights to your shows created up to that point.

It is worth noting that producers start out with a $20 IPO.

Going public means you do have stockholders though. These stockholders expect your fortunes to rise and the value of your stocks to increase. Networks will be under the most pressure because their wares are the most public. If you have several movie flops at the box office and your television ratings are falling behind your competitors, you may see your stock price continually fall, and if you really start to go under, you might see a board of directors try and out you from control of the company. However, I have faith in you. In turn, a producer must have shows sell, and how the shows do on TV will also have an impact. Few investors will want to invest in a producer who is known for getting subpar ratings on his shows. Eventually the money from networks will stop flowing.

In later turns, if this IOT is still alive, Takeover mechanics will be created and added. The Stock Market is essentially a way to raise some fast capital, perhaps for a movie, or to try and quickly take over the television market by purchasing top notch shows across the board, steal shows from your competition, etc.

PCs>NPCs is indeed the rule. I am trying to keep WBT fairly balanced, and if for some reason it does begin to dominate the market, I will begin to artificially nerf it.

Sales are as final as the producer and network want them to be. But be careful as your trust might quickly erode if you develop a reputation for confirming a sale and then turning around and changing your mind. Same thing for a network really.

@CivO WBT is indeed interested in discussing the sale of rights to your pair of movie ideas, although I will leave SaR alone for PCs.

Rory Englehardt is pleased to announce that he will be collaborating with WBT to produce the entire Crimson trilogy. More details on plot and agreements to follow, but in the meantime...

Crimson:
Genre: Action/Sci-fi
Description: Incoming
Spoiler Copied from chat. Earlier draft with only four stars. Should be considered spoileriffic and non-final :
Crimson the film would follow a similar group of amnesiac teens in a vaguely near-future setting as they try to recover their memories and explain their powers, all while being hunted by variety of seemingly government forces, and running into some more unclear-aligned figures such as the scientist D.E. and the enigmatic and extremely dark Tez [when I say extremely dark - Tez would be quite possibly the most controversial character ever to reach video in our world. It's heavily implied he's eating someone in his introductory scene. He kills because it's easy. And he's more or less the antihero, though I'll come back to that], both of whom know about their pasts
Ostensibly, the film's hero is Carlos, a telepath, who uncovers that they are part of a secret government bioweapons project - the titular Crimson - from which they are now on the run. They are being hunted government agents, the mysterious "A8" - later revealed to be a non-Amnesiac result of Crimson, a boy named Harold who has venom glands in his fingers and mouth - and DE, the head of the project, who defected and caused the amnesia for unclear reasons
Anyways. The climax occurs when Carlos discovers that D.E. is his father, who defected from the program as a result, and that Tez - who is an escapee from an earlier program - is his older brother, whose actions are largely motivated by a desire to permanently shut down and eliminate those who made him into what he is (Tez has fangs and catlike eyes, meaning he needs to keep his mouth shut and sunglasses on to not get noticed, and society rather hates him for what he is). In a shocking finale, Harold kills Carlos - who up until now has appeared as the main protagonist - and sets the scene for the second film, Viridian (Viridian being the name of a sister project to Crimson)

Plot and contract deals forthcoming.

OOC, for those of you who played the game, this is basically going to act as a definitive version of events. Expect some retcons (because those notes are now several years and computers old), edits, and a solid plot. Also spoilers, if you don't really want to know how it goes.

Clarifying a rule adjustment. Staff needs to be paid every time a contract is signed/renewed.

It is assumed that when a contract is signed, you create the number of required seasons and no more until another contract is signed, calling for more episodes.
