Aabra02: Hammy Builds a House

I would abandon the research into Electricity - it will only cost us the 12 gold pieces the scientist would have earned as a taxer and start down the Medicine road instead.

China needs to be taken down a peg or two while France and England could use building up to provide a more liquid market in the future. So no money or luxes to China while we nuture the Europeans.

The last Celtic town on the island shares space with some Chinese cities and is easily reachable by galleon. Cannons and the armies should be able to deal with the defenders and the payout could be huge if we capture those towns and get some Chinese arcana for peace.

I am looking forward to the end game slug fest

This has been a really great game to follow. I'm truly sorry that I had to drop out! Well done, gang!

Oh, but it's just starting

I agree with Whomp... there is still plenty of fun to be had in this one. I think we're probably due for a bit of peace so we can consolidate our holdings and build something that looks like an empire.

I think one key to this is to use as much available land as possible...lots of citizens working the tiles. Metros are the way to get it done. With Replaceable Parts we get Civil Engineers, right? That'd be an option for getting markets and hospitals going in the corrupt areas.

Oh - I almost forgot - are any of you guys up for adding an element of interest to this one?
Spoiler :
I won't blame you if you don't want to add a variant mid-game... but I thought it might be fun to add the ol' SGOTM2 variant to this one. That'd be a UN victory - without building the UN.

lurker's comment: If you add that to the mix, I'll be watching with even more interest, as I'm involved in an SG where we are aiming for a UN vote in our favor.

my last brain cell just exploded...

@scout, you have an evil mind. you've got me downloading saves and trying to puzzle out wth you're talking about. I do remember to fire up civassist2... otherwise I have no shot

I just read the SGOTM2 pre-game discussion for Team Scout. In post #19, your suggestion was...
Scout said:
Sometime in the industrial era, we shift gears, and let go of our desire to dominate the tech race. We don't want to empty their treasuries with any tech lead we might get. Trade them tech for tech, but one AI will likely be able to get that "one degree of separation" if we let them, and we will let them. We'll even give some techs away if we have to. (Gifting techs is the fastest and surest way to improve AI attitude...)

The idea is to get that AI (hopefully we'll get a Persia or Greece type civ left at endgame) and get them to Fission (and building UN) ASAP. If there are 2 civs left, and both start building UN, it becomes a simple matter to figure out which will complete the UN, and we just buddy-up to the other.
Would that be similar to what you had in mind for this game (though I don't think we need to worry much about giving away techs. :p ) ? We are the only SCI civ in this game, and I'd guess China will build the UN in this one. Does that mean we'd take out all but China and one more civ? It seems like the Maya would be disinclined to vote for us at this point. :mischief:

At any rate, I'll go with whatever the rest of the team wants to do. :)

Cosy up to England or France and keep China on the outside looking in. If China builds the UN then an alliance with the buddy against China should seal the deal. That means we stay technologically or financially ahead of our pal so we can bribe them into the war if needed.

After swapping a few PMs, it seems we are about to add another to our little crew.

@Tone: You're no longer a lurker. :p

@Harriet: Shall we stick Tone in Abra's spot in the rotation?

Thanks for letting me in on this guys.

As to the extra variant; I think that we'd be up to the extra challange but I'm happy whatever you choose to do.

Awesome! Welcome Tone!!
If you want to grab this save, please do.
The best I can do is pick it up on Monday (holiday here).

Tone! Welcome!!! I've read your excellent posts in the General Discussions and in the Strategy & Tips forums for a long time now. It's a delight to have you joining us. :D

Been a while, nice to have you along :)

So, who's turn is it anyways?

It's supposed to be mine but I won't get to it till Monday. That's why I asked if Tone wanted to grab it first.

Ok, here's what I think is the order of go.

Roster Update:

Tone - up
Whomp - on deck
Beorn-eL-Feared -
scoutsout -
gmaharriet -
Bede - just played
Aabraxan - indefinite lurker status

Here's the "got it/play it" info from the opening post:

I'm going to make this one 48 to grab, 144 after that to play. That's 7 calendar days, so everyone should end up with at least one of their days off to play. Extensions will be freely granted when requested. I feel confident that everyone here will communicate with the team regarding schedules, skips and swaps.

Let us know if that works for you Tone. I was originally going to slot you into Aabra's old spot after Whomp. If you can take it now that's great, but if not, later is fine as well. :)

I'm just going to bed but I'll have a look in a few hours. Then I'll re-read the latest posts and give my thoughts.

Change of plan in RL means that I have much less time for civ today than I originally thought. I'll take my place after Whomp if that's OK.
