AAranda's mods for 2.8 (some of them)

The religions are going to get updated to RoM 2.91 and AND 1.71 correct? Sorry, I always use them in my games, and I'm getting really anxious to see them updated :D

Playing right now 2.9 game with 1.71 AND and ROME 3.10 and Aaranda's wonders/units/religions - everything fine so far (researching feodalism now).

OK, a couple of things i changed in the religion area.

I changed the Druid to Elephant riding, and Shaman to Blood Cult, sounds weird, but i did it for a reason, ie:

They are always the very very first to get picked as a religion no matter what the civs favorite religion is, only BECAUSE they are in the direct path of either a goody hut given them or a tech that needs to be founded before another tech EARLY ingame. So i moved them to someplace that isnt as needed as the other techs, that way its more fair if you play on Limited Religions to get the religion your really going for.

I hope it sounded ok, i am not that good with words. It could be other unappreciated techs also, but i tried to keep them as low tech as i could without picking a really necessary tech(if you know what i mean).

I am currently working on the following for the next version of AAranda's Religions

Remove support for
Original or Classic Shinto replacing it with my take on that religion.

Bug fixes
 1. Unique sounds for Nagi, Voodoo and Yorba. Thanks to JARM and Rapture mods. This just leaves the need for Scientology sounds. (testing now)
 2. Shinto sounds are pointing to the wrong location in the replacement version. Gives an error containing the folder name ShintoAndShamanism. (done)
 3. Tengri wind horse promotion 2 has the wrong icon. (done)
New
 1. Missionary religious effects should be in next upgrade for some religions thanks to JARM mod (JustATourist). I.e. the religious symbol appears above the missionary when the attempt to spread the religion to a city. (testing now)
 2. New non-religion Freemasonry. No missionaries. A World wonder to start it off, a national wonder to spread it to your civ and two buildings (lodge and grand lodge) for your cities - more later.
 3. In AND version but maybe not RoM version, full implementation of AAranda's changes to standard RoM religions where they still apply.

Experimenting with the idea that you can only build cathedrals for you state religion. This will greatly affect the religious promotions. I will need to figure out how to nullify cathedrals which are not the state religion. This needs some thought and discussion.

Im sorry but i am having some trouble installing the religion and wonders mods with RoM v 2.91 im really not sure what im supposed to do besides extracting them and the patch into the modules folder. I have patch 1 for both mods as well and the new shinto religion mod. I really could do with a step by step explanation of the installation.

Is the following enough? Is there something I have forgotten?

Installation:

Premble:
1. All of the mods are shipped as compressed files. I used 7-zip to create them. It is free.
2. Each compressed contains the files in the right place starting within the Rise of Mankind.

Process:
1. Extract the Rise of Mankind folder in the compressed file into the Mods folder where Rise of Mankind resides.
2. Go to the Rise of Mankind/Assets/Modules folder and run (double click on) the file woc_installer.jar. This will install the sounds for the religions.

Note: If you are using the "A New Dawn" expansion you should install it before these.

Hmmm it did all this and it still doesnt work properly. I can get the religions to show up and all but it crashes when i try to start a new game. I also get XML errors upon loading RoM.

What sort of XML errors? Posting a screen shot of the error may help identify the problem.

Its not this modmod your having the problems with, (you must have changed something else or added something else thats causing this) i have had this installed in five of my testing mods and they all work, also, they are included in NWA which works fine also:p

I have installed no other modmods at all. Im running windows 7 64 bit and i have changed nothing else in RoM or anything. Im running full of resources mapscript when trying to run the game that crashed but it works with basic RoM.

Hmmm this is the error im getting and as a side note im using the RoM megapack as well.

Right there is your problem, the Megapack is not compatible at the moment with 2.91.

The error message is one you get when one of the XML schema files is not up to date. So that means something you are using has not been converted properly to RoM 2.91. If you are using the mega pack then that would be the problem otherwise you may have an older version of AAranda's stuff.

16th May 2010 - new release of AAranda's Religions.

 • fixed promotion icon for Wind Horse 2 promotion
 • added sounds from Rapture mod to Ngai (used Niger) and Yoryba (used Congo)
 • added sounds from JARM mod to Voodoo
 • added missionary effects from JARM for some missionaries
 • completely redid Anamist and Druid religions
 • fixed the pink building problem (Although not in the way some would prefer, I just deleted the graphics.)

Was just going thru your religions stuff and i noticed that Shinto has this:

Modules/AAranda/Custom_Religions/ShintoAndShamanism/Soundpack/ShintoDink

when infact i believe you deleted the folder ShintoAndShamanism:confused:

I think it should be: Modules/AAranda/Custom_Religions/Shinto/Soundpack/ShintoDink

Yes it should and I thought I had fixed that!

Whats weird, i had a civ just get Shinto and it still uses Budda or some default one( i just changed it and it still uses default) ? I even looked at the original XML files and its the same as the pic? Even after i used the WoC installer?

EDIT: OK i just found out why it uses the Budda default, even thought everything else says not to:crazyeye:

Hello,

thank you for your kind work.

I have got some questions: I would like to play the game with the religions mod only. So I downloaded the file in your first post: "AArandaReligionsRoM2_9.7zip". I unpacked the whole stuff into:

Rise of Mankind/Assets/Modules/AAranda

After that I ran (doublecklicked) the woc_installer in the RoM/Assets/Modules Folder. A huge list of entries appeared.

Next I investigated the new created folders. In the new folder Customs_Religions there are many new folders for the religions 21 in total. When I now execute the game I can see that there are the new religions in the game. For example my seviopedia is updated. I played some rounds and checked on the druid religion as it is the first one which I could gain. It worked so far. But unfortunately I cannot see whether the old buildings of the default religions have improved so far. For example when I look up the page for the Christian Cathedral than the text of my Copy still says that I would need 3 Temples. As far as I understood the Mod I would only have to use one Temple, right? So I advanced through the tech tree until I could build temples and could found state’s church. After building a Zoroastrism temple it still gave me + 3 happiness and +2 culture. All the new religions’ buildings seem to work fine. It seems to me that I have to replace the default religions with the mod versions of them.

According to the Read me file it is explained that happiness was reduced to one. But when I build a temple of one of the default religions there is still the “old” bonus of three. So I assume that the mod does not work properly. What am I to do? I understand from the first post that when I want to play the religious mod with RoM 2.91 and AND, then I only need to install the above mentioned archive file. Do I have to change something or replace folders?

I am asking this since I am very confused with your religion description in post #90: There you say that one has to change the following XMLFile:

MLF_CIV4ModularLoadingControls.xml

According to that post it should be located in the AAranda/Costum_Religions Folder. But I cannot find it here or anywhere else among the Costum_Religion sub folders. Where I find such a file is in RoM\Assets\Modules. Do you mean this one?

I am using the German version of the game so far and have it patched with version 3.19. Can this be the problem? There was a way of internationalize this version with a certain patch. Do you know where it is located?

Other than the official add-ons I only use RoM (2.91), AND (1.73) and HAND (1.1).

Thank your for your assistance.

Regards

Edit:

Well okay, I have one more assumption. It is said in the Read Me that to install the "updated" RoM Religions I have to:

1. Make a back up of the xxxxx file in assets/xml/buildings folder
2. Open the compressed file and extract to your Beyond the Sword/Mods folder. Say yes to replace existing.

I am confused because I do not know which file I have to change. And there is no "compressed file" as well in the newly created folders. Could someone please give a step by step manual on how to install this?

Hello,

thank you for your kind work.

Thank you, and welcome to the RoM forums.

This is normal because the religions are modular ie each has its own folder and so each has its own entries for sounds which is what the woc_installer is installing. Sounds in BtS are not modular so their XML files need to be merge into the main mod (RoM) sound definitions for them to work in game.

This is my fault, I had some software and ideas of mine pinched in real life and so I am highly reluctant to change stuff that others have written even though I have taken over the maintenance of their code.

The plus three happiness is a bug that no one else has reported and I will need to fix. The need for three temples before being able to build a cathedral is something I know of and can't fix in RoM but could fix in AND if I wanted to maintain two versions of these. Which at the moment I don't.

Both these errors are probably caused because I converted AAranda's work to modular where as before they were overwriting the main RoM files which meant problems keeping up with all the other mods. RoM then converted to the WoC standard whereas the normal BtS modular format overwrites existing buildings of the same name the WoC standard extends it so +1:) in standard and +2:) in a modsule becomes +3:) in game. Or in the case on the number of buildings required the biggest one was chosen.

This means that I need to update the documentation.

I understand from the first post that when I want to play the religious mod with RoM 2.91 and AND, then I only need to install the above mentioned archive file. Do I have to change something or replace folders?

No, just putting the stuff where you have should work fine in both RoM and AND. It should work fine with the other mods as well ROME and HAND for example. I have tested it.

I am asking this since I am very confused with your religion description in post #90: There you say that one has to change the following XMLFile:

MLF_CIV4ModularLoadingControls.xml

You should not need to change any MLF file any more. I discovered that I could simplfly things back to the old BtS way of adding and removing religions by adding or removing the folders in the Custom_Religions folder. I need to update the documentation.

I am using the German version of the game so far and have it patched with version 3.19. Can this be the problem?

The problem looks to be mine, mostly documentation but the happiness looks like it may be a bug.

There was a way of internationalize this version with a certain patch. Do you know where it is located?

The language translations for these do not exist. I have the English text copied into the German text for example. Each religion (and building) has a file called ssomething like Andean_CIV4GameText.xml which has the test used.

If someone does the translations I can add them.

I think I must be pointing to the wrong folder in the documentation. It sounds like you have installed everything OK.

Hello,

thank you for taking your time to answer so comprehensively.

I think I must be pointing to the wrong folder in the documentation. It sounds like you have installed everything OK.

I will simply try it again and have a look what indeed happens, when I come across the religions.

Good luck with your new projects.
