Update 3

Rome’s invasion of Padus was militarily successful, but troubles came to the forefront immediately. The fighting between the Padus militia and invading Roman armies devastated the region’s ability to generate wealth. The Roman armies garrisoned in Padus were forced to strip away the last bit of wealth the province could offer to support the armies there. Padus is culturally a mixture of Moltus and Roman influences.

In the south, an Egyptian garrison in Libya crossed the border into Carthage, seizing Cyreneica without a battle. The garrison immediately went to work to put Egyptian pressure in the province, turning the cultural tug-of-war in the region that had so favored Carthage before. Analysts, however, believe that Egypt will be fighting an uphill battle to spread Egyptian culture across Carthage.

In the east, the establishment of the Neo-Babylonian Empire, based in Babylon, has disrupted an otherwise sleep and peaceful region. A vast Babylonian buildup has all but destroyed the government’s revenue creation. Established in the border regions between Caucasia and Egypt, the Babylonian culture has made forays into northwestern Egypt and southern Caucasia. At this stage, it is unlikely a peaceful resolution will be reached in the region.

The Romans and the Barbarians

jiJETvv.jpg

Catilina Iunius Cicero, founder of the legalistic philosophy, in his rhetoric speech "On the Expansion of the Military" in the Roman Senate, which proposes an enlargement of the Roman Military, in paragraphs 67 - 68 talks about the differences between Romans and Barbarians.

"And so, Senators of Rome, an increase in the number of troops is necessary, because, except for all other reasons stated above, I have to point out that Rome is the light of civilization and if Rome falls to Barbarian hands, then the whole world will descent into darkness. For only the Romans are ruled by the will of the many for the good of all citizens and live under a Republic, while the Barbarians are ruled by the will of few people for the good of only those few people. For the Barbarians are slaves, while the Romans free men. For the Romans have their own free will while the Barbarians follow the will of one man. And of course, peace between Barbarians and Romans cannot exist, as peace between those who want absolute power and those who are content to live with egalitarianism is impossible.

Only free men can understand the concept of peace and live by it. And free men are the ones who live in a state which values liberty over oppression and written laws over the law of the strongest. The Barbarians own everything they have, including their own lives, to one person who exploits them, while the Romans own everything to the laws of the state, which protects them and allows them to have their own free will. So, we must not neglect, Roman men, our military or darkness shall cover the light of Roman civilization. The Barbarians in Illyria and Galatia are expanding rapidly and threaten our northern borders. In the south, the African Barbarians are amassing their power. We must not neglect those threats and we should prepare for war. For those who rule the Barbarians do not see kindly the expansion of the light of civilization over their barbaric darkness and do not want their citizens to be civilized. They know that only Rome can guarantee liberty and freedom, and so they will seek to destroy it."

Update 4

The Collapse of Caucasia and Carthage have led to widespread confusion across the world, but in the battle for the hearts and minds of the people, the Carthagian and Caucasian cultures continue to make themselves felt in the East and West.

Egypt launched two offensives; two failed. The fall of Carthage into squabbling localities meant a stronger localized response to Egypt’s probing actions, leading to an embarrassing defeat of Egyptian forces in Tripolitania and Africa. The Retreat from Carthage resulted in one Egyptian fleet running afoul of the limited supplies of Cyreneica, which was supplying the Egyptian Mare Ionium Fleet as well as a garrison army that failed to take Carthage.

In Sumeria, three Egyptian Desert Foxes attempted to dislodged the five Babylonian armies in the region. The Sumerians put up the best defense possible, but superior Egyptian army quality, flanking, and units won the day and destroyed two Babylonian armies and forcing three more out of the province.

In Padus, a newly created Roman garrison fled its position. Padus, which was ravaged in the Padus War, experienced a short period of increased supply throughput after the government invested in the region. However, the created of the new garrison, and the crippling number of armies in the province already, wiped away the meager amount of wealth existing in the province, leaving the garrison no choice but to disband or face starvation.
