Abortion Banned in South Dakota

Its official now, the governor signed the bill into law.

CNN

The bill would make it a crime for doctors to perform an abortion unless it was necessary to save the woman's life. It would make no exception in cases of rape or incest.

I'm not a fan of abortion, but making it illegal to perform in cases such as rape?! That is borderline insane.

Someone is tragically raped, so that makes it okay to murder an innocent? That is what strikes me as insane logic.

Scenario: The victim is 15.

Of course, the law probably won't go into effect until the Supreme Court can hear it and that might take years...

But cheers for passing the thing anyway!

Certanly a good move forward in the culture of life :).

Is it so difficult for people to go to another state which allows an abortion? I also don't find it sane not be allowed to abort a product-fetus of rape or incest.
Say, if the governor was a female and lived here, and she got raped and got pregnant, then I'd be curious how much would she want to give birth to the fetus.

I'm also not a fan of abortion without any reason*, although I support the issue to be decided by the couple each time(to be legal, that is).

* I'm too bored to describe it in detail.

Who cares ?

No one lives there anyway.

775,933 people live there. So we shouldn't care because there are cities with larger populations than that entire state? Or do only people in cities matter? Or do you not care about abortion as an issue? Its difficult to tell which one you meant.

And since they have about 800 abortions a year, it wouldn't change a whole lot even if the law could be enforced.

Still, depending on the success of this one, similar laws might spring up from state to state...

I don't understand why they try and legislate against abortion when desperate soon-to-be-moms that can't afford a kid will just take more dangerous measures to get an abortion (such as going to another state, or using a coat hanger)

I think all these abortion debates are thoroughly silly until we get a reasonable definition of when life begins!

They can simply place the child up for adoption or dont have sex in the first place and practace sexual abstanance.

"can" and "will" are very different concepts indeed ;)

Adoption is hardly something I'd wish upon a child (well, in my opinion in any way, the mental grievance must be more than I could bear)

Its better than simply killing an unborn human being who has as much right to live as any person walking on this Earth.
