Hello, I need help on some very important historical facts about the first chechen war, im thinking of making a Civ3 scenario about this. I can just go research it now but im also busy on making a scenario about a country with a civil war, any help? :help:

At the risk of sounding stupid, have you tried wikipedia?
First Chechen War is also recent enough there should be lots of news reports/archive footage on youtube, like this archive footage from AP:
If you are looking for how people understood the conflict as it unfolded, looking at the archives of a 'newspaper of record', like the New York Times (or whatever an equivalent is in your home country) can be very useful. I believe the UPI archives since 1990 are all online for free:

I do have a question - who's shooting this footage? The tanks are clearly Russian, but who are the guys firing small arms through the windows? Insurgents or Russian troops? Understandable if you don't know but I am curious

I'm assuming AP contract cameramen, and the footage could be shot by two different cameramen, one with the Russian troops and another with the Chechens. @red_elk might be able to tell us what language the soldiers are speaking and if they are Chechens or Russians.

EDIT: Some other info I found poking around The Atlantic's archives:

EDIT2: Looking at some of the other AP footage from the conflict, and using google translate on the comments section, it seems most of the footage comes from Chechen cameramen as there is a greater emphasis on destruction and dead bodies than I would expect from Russian cameramen, along with the general tenor of the comments.

They all Russians on your video. Speak without accent, some have vests and helmets. White ribbon on sleeve was usual spetsnaz marking to distinguish friend from foe. Could be used by infantry too.

That could be AP emphasis. I imagine they had hours of footage to choose what to show and what not.

I once had dinner with Aslan Maskhadov. All I can tell you is that he didn't eat dessert, and his intimidating bodyguards were very excited about seeing McDonald's.
