Accurate Earth Map in development

when you say you loaded it with the mod, are you speaking of my mod or yours? if its yours I have no idea, I'd have to look at it. If its mine, I would imagine its because mali is not in my mod.... many resources and other things I've changed would also have conflicts... It would probably be best if you just give me a raw map, maybe with some resources, and I'll do the rest. If you absolutely must add civs only use england, spain, france or america.

Its pretty easy to change which civs are in the scenario via notepad++

My mod (it's basically a minimod with only stuff applicable to the map/your mod, so you can just stuff it right in with yours)... cuz if I was using yours and Mali isn't in it then I wouldn't be able to choose it :)

And I haven't added any civs, so you'd have to edit the map to your preferences when you recieve it.

Do you/anyone else have any ideas? I know I've heard of other things causing defeat problems. I'll start looking right now.

At first I was thinking, if this takes too long I'll hand over a raw map, but it will be quicker to just go back to the previous update than to go into notepad and delete all the resources and new terrains.

I'll update in a few hours if I find anything

In 2006 Canada-based Heritage Oil discovered oil near the Congo-Uganda border and positioned Rukwanzi Island as a strategic drilling point. The U.K.-based Tullow Oil says it also just struck oil and natural gas deposits in the Lake Albert Rift Basin in May.
Oil officials estimate there may be oil reserves of up to two billion barrels, most of it under Lake Albert.

Just thought I'd put that out there, there is oil out there, and lots of it. :D

Sorry I've been away, work resumes tonight after work.

Now I'm done exams and such, I should be a lot freer.

Since I'm backtracking on the bugged NA map, I'll let you guys (especially Shiggs) know how much there is to be done.

Sorry for the setback, Shiggs

Kevin

Well since Colonization has been announced, atleast this mod + map has a chance at finishing before Civ V

Well, Shiggs, I checked my recycle bin for an older update, but it was pretty much empty...

I'm out of options, so I'm going to host/hand over the non-working map. It would probably take a day of using a good text program to open the map and systematically take off all the resources. (some sort of feature like find and delete for each resource maybe?)

Doing this by hand would take a lot of time but could also work.

I'll let you know if I find an easy way for you to do this

I will also give you my terrain graphics, which really make the map what it is, as well as some of the better resources. A lot of mine aren't animated, but a) the map is large, so many, if not most people, will play with these off, and b) it will still look good as long as the improvement does not clash with the resource when built.

I will also scan a REALLY valuable resource map (s) for you to use.

Hope this will work out for you

in the meantime I'll do some serious research into what is causing the linking error in my own mod, and perhaps start putting together wintermod (the cyclical snowcover system... not too hard to do and amazingly overlooked and needed, so I'm excited about that)

Perhaps Shqype can lend a hand to getting my mod and Rhye's to sort of cooperate... in the meantime I'll be doing what I can to help him

EDIT: colonization?

Kevin

that sounds good. I'm quite proficient using notepad++ so don't worry about it. All I really need is the map, anything else was a bonus. Thanks

Shiggs

Shiggs, all neccessary files can be found here:

http://hosted.filefront.com/kevinman4404

The terrain files should be dumped into Art/Terrain/Textures

There are also some of my resources in the resources zip. Please use any you find useful.

In the xml zip you will find the xml file for the terrain textures (which should be used directly), and I included an xml containing all resources from my mod that you can borrow the xmls for any resources you use from. Make sure you use this because some resources have old version models in them, etc.

Keep me updated on your progress/let me know if you run into any problems

Kevin

EDIT: Wow, I looked at all the Colonization stuff; I feel it kind of ruins the flexibility and open-endedness of the traiditional civ4, however I really can't wait to get my hands on some of that awesome artwork...

thanks kevin, I'll check it all out over this weekend. I just downloaded it all.

Yea that Colonization seems ok, the graphics, especially the water looks amazing though. I'll probably end up buying it.

Shiggs, have you decided what you want to keep and have you had any success getting the map back working again?

Let me know if you're having any problems and I'll help out as best I can.

Some progress on wintermod and little on troubleshooting.

Honestly, I haven't even worked on it at all since then, though I have scanned through it. I'm waiting on Dale to release a 3.17 version of DCM before i do much more work on it.

I don't think it'll be a problem, I'm fairly experienced at stealing maps and converting them to other mods.

@Shiggs: k... (but maybe ill see what i can do to get it working again)

@Genghis: hey. its still in a near completed form... and although I originally wanted to release it only with my mod (remember, it is so large that for the game to make any sense you would need a lot of civs (so theyre not really far apart), and normal computers wouldnt be able to handle the number you need all at the same time), I think I'll release a standalone map, with terrain graphics and resources and such, even though it may be of little use to a player or non-uber modder.

I am thinking late September I'll put it up for d/l, caz I REALLY want some graphics from Colonization. Hopefully it comes out on time. This will also let me fill in any unplaced resources.

The mod is unfortunately getting nowhere at this point. Right now all I'm trying to do is get the RFC engine to accept a different map, so that I can have civs rise and die off, allowing a greater number of civs to play on the map. We shall see, and thanks for dropping by

If anyone is in a problem solving mood, please drop by the mod's thread

Kevin

@Deanej, coincidentally, that is exactly what I decided to do yesterday.

However, I recently finally completed the disabling of RFC features, and now I've discovered a really, really strange problem, which I've posted here

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=262780&page=16

It's my last post... quite unexplainable to me at least

Kevin

EDIT: Nevermind. Fixed. Started making the DLL. Just gonna have to get through a few C++ errors I can't seem to get rid of.
